In the truth I have the same problem. But with some differences.

1. I don't have my own property in my country.

2. I am not 'native speaker' and my english is not even 'fluent'.

I am 27y old. I have MA degree in science as a Land Surveyor/Cartographer. Of course limited experience, because I had to earn some money for my trip to Thailand (so I worked in USA during 1,5 years - construction). I am from rather poor country where engineer can earn the same money like cleaning service

But I don't scare to go If u can guys - give me some advices too.

These places are not covering up the fact that they are dangerous. Nor are they promoting themselves as family vacation spots.

The danger is in misleading people into thinking they are safer than they really are. TIT.

There have been several stories about murders and such in Thailand recently and I just read a post on the Samui board by some guy asking if Ko Tao was safe!

So it got me thinking, what are the relative safety metrics for each country (excluding such obviously screwed up places like Iraq and Afghanistan)? I’m particularly interested in how Thailand compares to the USA. I’ll look it up on google but maybe someone has some info on this.

ok ok dont attach too much significance to the word 'marry'. Probably what I mean is that I want to stay with her. Maybe marry means keep. Legally. Somewhere. Even as a teenager I have never hurt so much since I left her.

Its now 4 days since I came back, she has called every night in tears wanting me to return.

Hey, what I wanna do - I'm gonna go to Thailand and live with her several months. We will see - if everything ok, I will stay.. if sth wrong, I have choice. If I am marry - I will have some problems with that But, of course, u can stay - and in my opinion it's the best way. I just scare what can I do over there - but I wanna have my life little bit crazy Maybe my grandchildren will want to hear from time to time any stupid story (not only about life in small village).

I know about that, but just because some people do it, it doesn't mean its the smartest thing on earth. If you get caught, you won't be deported but you'll be arrested under a different law that will most likely get you into a US jail for 5 years or more.

In my opinion if somebody is arrested on the border will be deported. If have fake passport - the same (but I am not sure - I don't know people who were catched with fake passport who were other nationality than Russians), but if he is Russian his country will not allow him to back, so he has to stay in jail (6-18 months) and then he can get green card. So sometimes it can be smart. I don't say it's the smartest thing on earth for everybody, but if u - in your country - can earn for example 100-200$ a month and u have to care about family, what can u do? In USA, without any documents, SS number, car, insurance, bank account u can earn (after half year, when u can learn something) about 2000-4000$. It's minimum 10 times more - so maybe u can't understand situation of people like that, because u are from Western World u have good education and life is much easier for u (maybe not easier, but u don't need to care too much about money). I think for them it's the smartest thing on earth, because USA is still country where if u have no profession, but u r not lazy, u wanna work - u can earn a lot

There's no such thing as bad advice I think. I am taking it all in.

I don't think anyone who offered help is right or wrong, we all have a perspective on issues in life.

I think I need to work out whether Pattaya really is Paradise, or whether it has simply made me realise what a shallow aimless and lonely routine I have fallen into here. A long term marriage breaks up, a 16 year job becomes a meaningless chore, and a 46 year old tubby guy begins to live a lonely life, then suddenly pow a gorgeous girl thinks he's the bogs dollocks. Tempting. I certainly look at things here very differently now. I will take my time, change a few things back here, and return to Pattaya in November or January and see if the grass still seems greener.

Seems though I have two options (1) I build up a relationship with her over several visits in order for her to get a visa to come here or (2) I try to find work out there (difficult?) and drop everything here and take the risk

Don't worry.. I'm gonna go to Thailand in one week. To very poor girl from North, I've known by internet.. only one year, but by i-net I just resigned from good job in USA.. I am from Eastern Europe, I can't back to USA, I don't know english good enough for teach it in Thailand.. and.. I think.. everything will be OK

Correct, as above nobody gets a 'deportation stamp' in the passport during leaving USA. I "lost" I-94 form and I got new one (but clear, without stamp from my entering - when I had personal control.. hehe). Moreover nobody has to leave fingerprints or sth else. Of course I have 10 years ban, because I am noted in computers, but in the truth in this situation everybody can enter land border with fake passport.

Getting back there might be a bit of a problem for you.

I don't wanna it anymore.. hehe But if I need I will find good way - thru land border (it's not so difficult in the truth).

If you have a double entry visa you will recieve 60 day stay upon arrival which can be extended by 30 days at Thai Immigration in Thailand....after which you must cross a border to activate the second entry of your tourist visa....i.e you will recieve another 60 day stamp which it turn can be extended by 30 days at Thai Immigration once again. You do not need an onward ticket if you have a tourist visa.You only need an onward ticket if you arrive in Thailand without a tourist visa . Sorry cant help with where to spend News Years Eve outside Thailand.

Thanks a lot. Now I understand it little bit more. So I just need to buy ticket to Thailand and before get a 'double entry visa' from Thai embassy. And it will give me 180 days in Thailand (with extensions and crossing borders). And then I need to go to other country (ex. in region) to get new 'double entry visa' (if I wanna stay more in Thailand) - is it correct?

Why dont you apply for a double entry visa before leaving home? If you do you will not need an onward ticket when you return to Thailand after the initial 90 day stay. News Years Eve......best city, i like Pattaya.....but its an individual choice i am sure there are people who will say Bangkok or elsewhere.

Sorry, I don't know visas' names - in this case I ment 'double entry visa' - it's why I wrote 90 days (with extension). 1. Do I really need back ticket to my country or ticket to other country (in the region)? I can have some cash in my pocket.

2. Which city in the region is the easiest to get new thai visa and which city is the best to spend New Year's Eve?
