  1. really out of curiosity, i notice that you did have more than 3000 messages on tv, so here my question: Are you one of those members

who spent their times claiming how much their gf/wife is different, that she come from a good family, she is so honest, you can trust her with you life, she will never harm you, she is the best thing that did happen in your life, and she love you maak????!

(Well inspite of warning, the cultural gap, language barriere, difference of wealth, her family, etc etc)

Because if you are one of them, who spent his times to spread myths and <deleted> on tv, well in fact you might have fooled some other members, but the biggest victims is...you!

Now its time for some weeks holidays, and after to start to build back yourself, and dont run again in the same problems as it seems that some never learn.......

That is a very interesting post.

I'm one of the guys who didn't discover Thaivisa (or really know anything about Thailand) until AFTER I married my wife.

Now I would actually say my wife is very DIFFERENT because most Thai people are not evil monsters with NPD.

I am surprised that in the 2 years you have been a member of TV and bearing in mind how busy you have been with growing the business, that you've found time to write over 9 posts every day, on average. How's that? However, I can only assume that an audit has not been done, nor annual accounts, very strange!

  2. 56 year old student.

Backs up the governments assertion all along that these are middle aged hired guns... These thugs have spread terror in Bangkok... Now they must live their lives looking over their shoulders.

What are you wittering on about, can your read? He vandalised a police sign and there is no mention of him having any weapons. He was then shot and killed by some total low life who deserves to locked up for the duration. I take it that you would approve if that was carried out in you own country?

  3. a note- don't forget if your not married to her you are SOL

on any thing bought before you are married to her,

    after married 50/50

    very true happynthailand.

    One other thing.

I don't know about the OP but I trust my wife 100% and we have been together for over 10 years.

And through hellfire and brimstone and survived I might add.

If someone came to me and asked for a usufruct or a rental/lease agreement that would be a sign to me that they do not trust me.

This SHOULD have been talked about BEFORE you bought the land.

Oh when will they ever learn ? wai.gif

Not true! Get your facts right before you post. Whether you trust your wife or not is irrelevant.

If you wife is killed in a motorcycle accident or falling down some stairs etc., etc., then the person who inherits the land has every right to turn up and throw you off the land immediately. The usufruct gives you the right to live on the land for 30 years, come what may, it is a better solution than a lease. A lease requires that you have to make payments to the landowner, as in the West.

Get your lawyer to draw it up in English and Thai, item by item. Make sure he retains a copy for security then at least one will be available in the event of a disaster. Make sure your name is entered on the back of the Chanote.

As you are not permitted to own land or pay for it, with exceptions, then presumably you made a 'loan' for the purchase?

  4. That's because of Global Warming!

Record cold temperatures around the world won't stop the global warming industry with their dire predictions.

NASA has figure that show the warming trend - short term variations are normal - its the long term figures that count - and they do not look good.

"NASA Science News for Jan. 21, 2014

NASA scientists say 2013 tied with 2009 and 2006 for the seventh warmest year since 1880, continuing a long-term trend of rising global temperatures. With the exception of 1998, the 10 warmest years in the 134-year record all have occurred since 2000, with 2010 and 2005 ranking as the warmest years on record.

The average temperature in 2013 was 58.3 degrees Fahrenheit (14.6 Celsius), which is 1.1 F (0.6 C) warmer than the mid-20th century baseline. The average global temperature has risen about 1.4 degrees F (0.8 C) since 1880, according to the new analysis. Exact rankings for individual years are sensitive to data inputs and analysis methods.

Scientists emphasize that weather patterns always will cause fluctuations in average temperatures from year to year, but the continued increases in greenhouse gas levels in Earth's atmosphere are driving a long-term rise in global temperatures. Each successive year will not necessarily be warmer than the year before, but with the current level of greenhouse gas emissions, scientists expect each successive decade to be warmer than the previous."

So do I but that's nothing new. This planet has been getting warmer since the year dot and it doesn't take thousands of scientists and experts to discover that. Had it not been the case the ice age would still be firmly in place and there was no industrial revolution to speed things up until the very recent past and that has probably had very little impact. The rate of increase will vary, depending on the activity of the sun, which is unpredictable in itself and will continue to do so because there is nothing to stop it until the temperature reaches a level where our star only maintains that temperature.

  5. Yes she can drive in the UK on a full Thai licence, after which time she must apply for a provisional licence take both parts of the test. I think she take the test at any time though. Don't forget to notify your insurance company and tell them how long she has had a licence.

A one year "provisional" Thai licence would not be recognised as being valid in the UK.

If, as it would appear, " thomas28's" wife does not currently have a full Thai licence she would NOT be permitted to drive in the UK

I did say she she can drive on a full licence, and by that I meant a five year licence.

Yes the OP states she hasn't past a test yet, so even if she past a test tomorrow, she would not have her five year licence in time.

That said, think the question of a one year licence being a full licence or not is a grey area, it certainly entitles the holder to drive unsupervised in Thailand and you have to pass a test to qualify to hold one. I suspect that if the OP's wife was asked to produce her licence to the UK police it would be acceptable.

There was a thread on this issue on the forum last year and as I recall that the the DVLA were not able to give a definitive answer.

Chiang Mai has made an important point though, if a holder of a Thai licence commits a motoring offence they cannot be dealt with by being issued with a fixed penalty, certainly not where points are involved, so an offence would have to be dealt with through the courts and could well have implications down the line.

I think if I were the OP, I would enrol my wife in a UK Driving School rather than use a short cut, she has to,pass a test sooner than later.

From what the Op said his wife will not be able to drive in the UK as her license must be valid for at least a year on arrival. Not possible if she has a 1 year license issued before departure.

  6. Re recent stories/editorials in the international press, this one from the Washington Post is one of the more telling regarding which way the wind is blowing.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/thailands-anti-democracy-protests-merit-a-rebuke-from-the-us/2014/01/15/ca2205a8-7e1b-11e3-95c6-0a7aa80874bc_story.html

Having read the article and noticed it totally follows the US government line of supporting the YS administration it was no surprise to find that the piece in question was written by the Editorial Board. No surprise there then.

  7. " she was democratically elected" and has the right to stay the full 4 years, I have been reading posts like this for 3 months bah.gif

Been reading it since she was Democratically elected. You'll see the figures here. Not PT figures, but the real actual voting figures that show this to be a fact.

What is it with elections and you guys. We have more of them here than we should, and this is due to the continual coups. Still everytime, they vote against the ingraied historical corruption that is represented here by the Dems.

Next election, they will win. The only questions is will she win an election this year, or will there have to be another Junta Installed and overthrown, before she can win the next election. But, either way, she will win the NEXT free and fair election in this country. <deleted>, they almost won the one in 2007 with the full rigging and no party maching behind her. The dems only managed 30% under their own installed Constitution and Election rules.... 30%

All the talk of vote buying is crap. Lets say it is "Bluesky True" though. Did Thaksin spend more on vote buying the the Dems backers spent staging coups annd recovering later from the taxpayer. Post 2006 rise is striking.. 35% in one year http://asiapacific.anu.edu.au/newmandala/2010/09/03/thailands-hungry-military/

So what happens is... the Coup is planned and financed and then the money recovered from the tax payer once their Puppets are installed. Is this what people should be fighting on the streets for more of?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_general_election,_2011

"All the talk of vote buying is crap." You must live in cloud cuckoo land, certainly not in Isaan. You should get out more.

  8. The government has always been sincere. When or how has the government just bring out reform by themselves alone? The government has seek the involvement of all relevant parties/group/individuals in Thai societies? But the oppositions choose to sabotage it and came out with their own without the participation of lawmakers and a government - nominating their own peoples, families and clans with direct involvement at all time. The changing demand of PDRC is endless.

The constitution court is not a law making body. If it rules that the election can be deferred, than it has abused its power and acted unconstitutionally. Apparently, some part of election law need amending. That is the job of the lawmakers and when passed into law, the government has to implement it. Without an elected government and lawmakers, how can that be possibly democratic? Furthermore, the respected King has ruled out his involvement in political matters which could be undemocratic and unconstitutional.

Under the situation that have been created (I shall not mention how, who, what have been created for now), deferring the election will not defuse violence. Instead, it will spark violence which we have never seen before.

The malicious use of Judiciary by oppositions and the involvement of Judiciary in politics have left many felt hapless especially among the 'Redshirt/UDD'. Their silence at the moment is likely to be a storm that is coming. They know they do not have the arsenals of military and judges. But it is a dangerous situation that may result in the overthrowing of the 'present system.' You call kill the body but not the soul.

We often talk about the 'third party'. Who are these people? What is their objective in trying to fish in troubled water?

IMO, if the old-elites and old military continue to work to exclude the 'lower income', 'lower educated', the disadvantaged people, than we should prepare for a cleansing through blood and burning fire to re-define us.

Is going with the flow on the awakening of the people's rights in judiciary, political and social matters very difficult?

What a load of utter rubbish, you are living on a different planet !!

Is this the best you can throw?

Try your first paragraph for a start. The camel that broke the camels back, for instance, known as the Amnesty Bill. Please explain to one and all how they were sincere with that? I won't hold my breath. Then you can move on to the Rice Pledging scheme!

  9. I don't understand why the EC seems to be running its own campaign through the media. Hard not to see the EC as a politicised body. I thought firemen are meant to put out fires

One has to question why the EC board members would not participate in an earlier meeting with yingluck this week. Instead they send a representative? Is the EC really doing their job or falling asleep at their desks?

Sent from my i-mobile i-STYLE 8.2 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

The meeting was not with the PM it was packed with MP's, PT members and associated supporters numbering 39? in total. The EC want a 1to1 with the PM for a meaningful discussion, not a kangaroo court.

  10. Maybe the law requires the election to be held Feb 2nd but if all the relevant authorities agree it would be in the countries best interest to postpone it and not to charge the PM. Problem solved?

Indeed. She made that offer and it was rejected out of hand by me Suteph. If he thinks a coup is the best solution, he might need to consider how the international community would react this time. A look at the Washington Post article might give him a hint

Why change the subject? Do you find it impossible to address the question? This is between the EC and the PM, period, end of story! Furthermore, did she ever make that offer to the EC, answer NO!

  11. If they were the red mob, he would have been torn to pieces.

Might be something to do with John Sparks.... The arrogant, backward idiot.

Ahh, having a go at trying to wind some people up? I don't think it's working.

You really should engage in some sober thought before posting some of your nonsense as the arrogant backward idiot in this regard is certainly not John Sparks, the respected Asia correspondent, who by the way has put out some sympathetic stories on the protestors.

In case you hadn't noticed the story was about a cameraman and likely fake guards. However, as can be expected you expand your post to include Suthep so you can state your personal view. Hoping for you to keep on topic would be far too much to expect.

  12. Will anyone be surprised by yet another report of thuggery, intimidation and violence by supporters of this so -called reform movement?. No. Another day, another report. And yet leaders of the movement now suggest that foreigners don't understand what is happening because the news is being translated to make the movement look bad . They say the motive is profit? I don't see any unfair reporting of the protests....they speak for themselves in the way they behave

Jumping on the band wagon before you read the item properly or just using part of the story for your own point of view? It quite clearly says, "a group of around 10 men tried to drag him into a dark corner, but was rescued by other PDRC staff after he called for help." Were they really PDRC staff or troublemakers dressed up for the part trying to tarnish the real guards?

  13. When a minority that represents the interests of the Bangkok elite attempts to seize control of the country through undemocratic means, this is the result.

And the longer the minority petitions to deny the majority their political rights the worse this kind of violence will get.

I don't want to hear any complaining from the minority because they are bringing it on themselves.

The poor are not going to stand for having an despotic, undemocratic government representing the Bangkok elite foisted upon them for the umpteenth time.

How much do you know about the poor, it doesn't sound as though you live in Isaan? There are very many people in Isaan that are protesting against the totally corrupt PT caretaker government. The farmers have been screwed and there is no money to pay them. The EC directed the caretaker administration that they were not to use the farmers money to pay them only to find out that this had already been done which is against the their remit. Many are also suffering from the water project and so on and on.

  14. There getting brave with daylight attacks now. Give the Weekend Warriors something to think about this weekend.

    Brave? blink.png

They are testing the resolve of the protesters and probing their defences and co-ordinating harrying attacks. Tactical this is

Small attack at Cheag Wattana and enough redshirts gathered to surround the PRRC Rump mob. This send pickups of protesters scurrying to their aid.... Then this.

The big one mayl be rama 4. When the time is right, they will come out and Suthep will be finished. Almost time.!!!!

Nobody on the protests today so what are they doing out there. Time to round em up and bring 3 months of video evidence before the courts. LOL then we will see the impartiallity of the Courts.

I see you have been a TV member long enough to know a lot about Thailand. We have idiots like you in the UK too, Freedom of speech and to demonstrate peacefully is a basic human right. Have you applied for a visa for North Korea yet?

  15. Skytrain sucks. I sit in traffic on a bus over using skytrain all the time. Even Saturday coming home from the airport with my heavy bags, I got off the airport bus, convinced myself not to be a pain in my own ass and just take the dam_n thing bc BTS would never notice if I take it or not, but then got upstairs and saw the nonsense with the lines etc (even though outside was DEAD QUIET), went back downstairs and took bus #29 and used the pedestrian bridge when I got off. A lot of extra sweat, but I hate giving my money to that assinine company.

How do you hate a transit system, do you object the train being elevated off the ground, instead of being under ground? Is it the color of the trains? Is it cos of the efficency and speed?

U prefer the bus, so its prolly cos sky train does not pollute the air.

Its a discussion for a different thread. Lots of people have complaints about BTS. Its been not great from the get go and done little to improve over the years.

Can you remember BKK before the skytrain and can you imagine it now without it?

  16. Here's the Asia Society's account of what happened in the polling.

As of December 31st Suthep had almost zero votes from the time the polling opened December 20th.

Then in the past closing daze [sic] the poll had 165,000 hits from Thailand (not 6 million).

The runnerup, teenager Malala Yousafzai, who has recovered from a shot to the head by the Taliban, had "close to" 12,000 votes which Asia Society says would be enough to win in any normal voting year. (Suthep got almost 116,000 votes which I believe Asia society says is an unprecedentedly large number of votes beyond the typical number of the annual poll's number of reader-voters.)

The sudden surge of voting this year in the final daze of the open online polling shows what Suthep's still anonymous feudal council and its mob supporters will do to voting and elections polling here in Thailand.

    http://asiasociety.org/blog/asia/how-thailands-suthep-thaugsuban-ran-away-our-person-year-poll

OK Publicus now highlight the the following text in the Asia Society's article! "The sudden surge of voting this year in the final daze of the open online polling shows what Suthep's still anonymous feudal council and its mob supporters will do to voting and elections polling here in Thailand." You are an unscrupulous, lying and devious TV poster and have edited that text in, to try and make people believe the opposite. What was actually written is as follows?

Quote "As it did in 2012, the unusually large number of votes did raise some red flags for us. Are these votes real? Did we get hacked? But the amount of visitors that flooded our site from Thailand (with close to 300,000 pageviews, the poll is easily the most popular piece of content on Asia Society's website ... ever), the number of blog comments (more than 400), Facebook likes (54,000), and write-in votes all point to these votes being the acts of many, many actual people — very passionate people."

Care to defend your your position?

    Whatever are you on about?

My post is my post, i.e, I wrote it. Every word of it. My post was done to encapsulate certain basic facts from the website's own statement, which I did do. My post also is my narrative point of view writing.

You erroneously read my post to be literal quotes of the Asia Society by me rather than my own narrative. Then you go running off in that wrong direction, charging and barging.

To boot, you omitted the "[sic]" I wrote after I wrote the word "daze" as in 'days.'

Sober up and calm down whydoncha.

You made the statement, "Here's the Asia Society's account of what happened in the polling." You continued your own interpretation of the Asia Society's account to suit your ends by including in your final

sentence and I repeat it for your benefit.

"Suthep's still anonymous feudal council and its mob supporters will do to voting and elections polling here in Thailand."

There is no mention in the Asia Society text about "mob supporters". Therefore you fabricated your 'story' for personal effect and to support your own views, no argument! Consequently you did not write a true and factual account. Consequently my reply stands as written and there was nothing 'erroneous' in my post.

Suggest you sober up, I don't drink.

If that's your best effort then don't give up the day job.

  18. Can't you remember your NI number? I find stuff like that impossible to forget. Have a look at this page here for getting it mailed to a UK address; people forget it all the time. Btw, there are certain bank accounts that can be opened as a foreign national, like HSBC's 'Passport' or summat... might be worth looking into.

Gotta go back just now, but been a year longer than you Simon. Passport, driving license (still got the old pink paper) etc will get renewed.

With the incessant price rises here, I can't believe it'll be horrendously different there, esp' for stuff like wines, breads and cheeses. Proper Guinness in a real pub ain't much more than that Malay crap they serve in dives here and the supermarkets just have so much choice... Tesco being an entirely different animal as you know. Looking forward to it, but not getting too comfy.

Bring back some pork scratchings, Walker's cheese & onion crisps, Jaffa Cakes, jammy dodgers and a kilo slab of Cadbury's Chocolate.licklips.gif

Yes, we all like to knock it, but at the end of the day if sh1t happens, there are not many countries in the world I would like to have to fall back on. For one, your passport gets you everywhere. Be proud to be British no matter how crud you think it is. thumbsup.gif

Why do you need to renew your driving license? You can drive in the UK on a Thai one for 1 year. Passport is a good idea as it's much cheaper than doing it from Thailand.

  19. Our washing machine (LG) and refrigerator (Mitsubishu) both have a two pin plug. They are not double insulated.

I grounded the frame with a cable to an earth rod. The two units are in a different buildings. Later I connected the two earth rods with each other.

Are you sure the washer hasn't got a Schuko plug, many have?

Be careful linking ground rods if they are a distance apart. A local lightning strike could set up a significant earth potential gradient and cause a LOT of current to flow in that link wire.

Bought a Siemens washing machine last year, made in Germany. It was fitted with a moulded on 3 pin euro plug that was lacking the earth pin, however, the cable is 3 core. Cut off the plug and fitted a 3 pin UK one. Question is why do the Germans do that? My house has a 3 phase supply and is earthed through a 2 metre spike under the house.
