  1. So you expect to pay less than you should because you don't have the right change?

rounded up or down to the nearest baht usually the point im trying to make is no give and take only take

If the cashier is short on takings she has to make it up out of her own money. Why should she pay part of your internet bill for you? coffee1.gif

were talking about 0.15 stang here impossible to make up that amount up as the lowest denomination is 0.25

Pay on-line and the correct amount can be submitted.

  2. Here is a better idea.

Why not create a professionally made motor cycling safety HD video and publish it on UTube, including other video hosting sites, facebook, or even create a website dedicated to motorbike safety.

Easy to register with the search engines such as Google and Ask.com.

My advice is, have the video produced by Thais for Thais rather then it appearing as foreigners trying to teach Thais how to drive, as I doubt they would like it and may consider such an enterprise as an insult. Only need to finance it and use farang names in the credits. Perhaps it would be possible to convince a high ranking Thai police officer, Government spokesman or even a Thai celebrity to participate in the scheme and appear in the video. Maybe even try to convince a well known motorbike manufacturer and helmet maker to sponsor you.

Your first line of inquiry would be to see how much such a project would cost to produce and then to approach the right people with your idea and see if they would be interested. Also considering that by uploading the video online rather than by a one off TV ad, it can remain in the public domain for all time with only a need to update once in a while.

    Just a thought.

It would also be worthwhile using the road signs book that is provided when applying for a driving licence. It's 99% copy of UK road signs with the notable exception of a 'T' junction.

  3. Dotpoom, the only flaw with your plan is the cost. Advertising does cost a lot of money and needs to be repeated many times for it to work.

I have always wondered why the police checks don't have some little spare parts guy at the checkpoints that charged 10 times what a bulb or helmet would cost as part of the fine and possible save a life in the process, rather than just issue a 200 baht ticket and send people on their way.

Good way of making "legitimate" money from lazy bikers, fixing unroadworthy bikes and making people think twice about not maintaining bikes or wearing helmets.

No shortage of spare parts guys that would like to split that booty and do the grunt work.

    Maybe it's just me.

I have come across bike riders who only turn the headlight on when they see an oncoming car overtaking another vehicle and promptly turn it off after passing the 'hazard'!

  4. Quite a girl this YS! She's already upstaged the Dear Leader by resigning and calling a new election - nothing Suthep fears more than an election which will once again show the he and his Dem ex-chums are disliked by the majority of the voters.

Now she does it again by offering to talk and take on board reasonable measures to improve things. What can Kim-Il Suthep do now. Sit down to tea with the devil herself, and lose face big time, or rant and rave like a wounded buffaloe, screaming hatred to the Shinawatras and losing the support of sensible people every step of the way.

There was a Red Shirt gathering on Wednesday evening at the local park in the city where I live, in Isaan. I ask my wife as we drove past how many people are there? She replied, less than we had at aerobics! Last year when they had meetings the numbers were in the hundreds. Do I detect a change of support by the local farmers?

  5. Wow...I am happy we return back to normality, from the protests!

Back to totally bogus and unachievable goals, by some ministers that have their head up...oh mai pen rai...welcome back!

Bullshit! The UK didn't start from less than 4/100,000 road deaths. It took many years of getting the message across and enforcement. You have to start from whatever base you have and if you don't set the bar high enough then you'll not achieve much.

  6. I would have just rolled with it, even the extra 100 baht. At least you got your extension.

Try taking your wife to the UK or the US and what you did was a cake walk.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but sometimes you have to "go along to get along." 100 baht?

Have taken my wife and step-daughters to the UK. NO hassle if you meet the requirements and get everything right for presentation at UKBA.

  7. IMA_FARANG, thanks for the advice. I am from the UK. I can easily enter Thailand just now on a 30 day tourist visa so no issues there. My job means that I won't need more than 30 days at a time but I am just planning for the future if things work out with my Thai girlfriend. I appreciate the advice on foreigners losing their money. I have read a few sad tales in different forums which is why I want to get the best advice on how I can ensure I am covered legally if I buy property. I know 2 guys in Thailand and one is happily married with kids and a beautiful house in the country. The other one spent all his life savings on a house in his girlfriend's name and once it was finished she ditched him and now he is back in the UK working at the age of 60 and he doesn't have a penny to his name.

The best advice is not to buy property at all in Thailand.

Second best advice get her to buy the property with a home loan from a bank, you make the monthly payments.

Funny thing about legal advice in Thailand.

They often just tell you what you want to hear, or what they think will make them most money.

A Thai lawyer some years ago told me, "Never trust a lawyer and never ever trust a Thai lawyer."

  8. 95% of the girls in pattaya or phuket (prostitute) come from isaan.they have one objective. Get what their neighbor girl got from her stupid farang house car money. ..so many of u get scammed cause u buy the girl from the first day u meet her . remember any lady in thr world who doesn't use her money on u and let u spend on her and even worse make u spend more on her is a very bad girl running with u for ur money. I have been with 129 girl in thailand during 3 years never payed 1bht and I don't even buy them food.its the opposite they do pay for my expenses.some do it from their heart and some don't. Always look at the face and the way it act when it is related to money and then u will know if this girl is decent or not.but in general what do a farang expect when he is over 40y old and running after a young girl of 20y?? Of course she will never like u.she will always love ur money and like u for ur atm but never like u for who u are.they often have a gig thai or even a gig farang and even a thai husband waiting for the big scam day.watch out from these ladies and watch out from isaan girls cause there is one think in their mind. GETTING RICH FROM A STUPID UGLY FARANG.

I can think of an appropriate name for you and it's not complimentary! Boasting about your conquests over 3 years, and claiming to be a inveterate scrounger and con man, can hardly endear you to anyone. And from what you say it has to be taken that you have been or are "A STUPID UGLY FARANG". From your uninformed comments It also shows your propensity for mixing with 'bar girls' and the like as you seem to know a lot about their personalities.

  9. The 1% bar girl what do ya expect. The hard working thai woman all together different. But if ya don't speak thai then your chances aren't all that good.

Not true. I had a Thai wife in England for 13 years, have lived in Isaan for over 7 years, have a Thai wife and do not speak Thai. I also know many Thai women in both countries and find that there are no problems with the vast majority. However, whatever country you come from there are those that will lie, gamble, take you for a ride and treat you like poo, however, the reverse is also true.

Suggest you go and meet the real people, find out for yourself and consider what you post in future.

  10. So they think "farangs" will marry each other to get a thai visa? Yeah, we are the scammers here, right?

...and what married retired couples in Thailand have a joint annual income equivalent to GBP 32,000...? If we placed such a restriction on Thais entering the UK, they'd be screaming "racists"....!!

i should think most of them have this income or more and UK makes it much more difficult than here for Thai wives to enter unless like here and everywhere you can show very substantial funds and income.

Not true. My daughter in law has recently moved to join my stepson in England.

  11. bloody Brits and there over priced currency then they wonder why there is no work .... ah but its good for the ego worth worth more than every body .. I can remember when Canadian dollar was high and they reduced it we sold a lot more products ..

Sterling has only over the past month made up for lagging behind both the US$ and the euro against the Baht. Just check the rates since, say end of December 2012 and compare the 3 currencies. Your opinion doesn't stack up against the figures.

  12. "Big time??" The OP must be the real excitable type. The baht only weakened a few pennies against the US$, normal fluctuations. Why do people use such dramatic (read inaccurate) words in their thread title?

Since the 1st November the £ has gained 5.4% against the Baht. Looking at daily movement is not a lot of use unless you are a day trader or have time to sit and watch the markets all day.

  13. Please note: I'm not English, OK, so that's why I put that little apostrophe next to "round" in the title, OK?

Being English, this has really annoyed me. So much so, that I've forgotten what the thread was about.

Why he says he's not English, having stated he comes from Texas I've no idea. However, he should be a lot more at home with Thai driving as the deaths/100,000 in the States are over 3 times greater than in the UK.

  14. Sounds like a confusion over the fact that the embassy letter mentioned a bank that the officer does not know.

Yup - That is a possibility, but unfortunately no one is saying - And really I or anyone else should not be expected to simply guess what the reason might be when faced with a difficult situation at immigration like this.

The embassy letter should only be confirming the amount - not the source.

I suggest you take it up with the embassy.

Immigration officers have absolute power over you - that is just the way it works.

The Embassy states that they issue a standard letter. However, I always ask for the monthly and annual amounts to be stated. There is no requirement for the source to be quoted and has never been stated on my income letters.

Maybe you should have signed the TM7 and written underneath 'Signed under duress'.
