Nola, the Thai Gov't actually promotes investors to the Tourism sector, so it should not be a problem at all.
I will try to to get Khun Wisarut from BOI here asap.

A REPORT ON REUTERS Thailand's finance minister rescued with sledgehammer said that security guards had to break the windows to rescue Thailand's finance minister after the computer in his car crashed him and trapped him and his driver.
The car he was in is a BMW car and although the Reuters piece doesn't say so, we wonder if his car used this this fantastic piece of Microsoft technlogy embedded into the system.
This system uses Windows CE for Automative and is described as an end-to-end system which includes climate control.
Suchart Jaovisidha is quoted as saying "We could hardly breathe for over 10 minutes". µ

Dave, Just forget sending anything to Thailand until you have a one-year extension from Immigrantion granted and/or a valid work permit.
Do NOT try to import your personal belongings before you have a work permit!
Check this link for the current regulations:
http://www.thaivisa.com/340.0.html
The general rule is that is MUCH cheaper to buy new stuff in Thailand instead of bringing them here.
-
FYI: The land departmend it not giving any life-long driver's licences any more. Not even to Thais. New rules since last month.

That site gives only the entry border points. I think the poster was after the Immigration office in the towns etc.

You have to contact your laywer or accountant, the only availbale info I have is the one posted above.

if you change your employer and wish to stay in Thailand you must notify Immigration. To do this you must take a form from your previous employer called a Tor Dor 10 - Form of Notification of Commencement, Change and Cessation of Work under Section 23.
Your former employer should also send a copy of this form to the local Immigration Office. This form will have the date of the termination of your employment.
When you take this form to Immigration, they will cancel your
existing Non-Immigrant B visa and give you a 7 day visa.
Apparently it is no problem to extend this if you are planning to commence another job. This can, however, be a vital issue for many, such as teachers who may have to wait for a new term to begin before starting a new job. If you provide the Tor Dor 10 and tell Immigration that you are looking for a new job, or in fact already have one - they will give you exact instructions on how to extend your visa, and you should not have any problems.
The worst problem arises when your previous employer does not provide you with a Tor Dor lO for weeks after you have finished work. For every day from the date shown on the form as your termination date until you produce a copy of the form at Immigration YOU RISK BEING REQUIRED TO PAY OVERSTAY FINES OF 200 BAHT PER DAY. It should be possible to arrange with your employer to prepare your Tor Dor lO prior to your leaving his employment.
Apparently they do take some time to prepare, no matter how willing or co-operative your employer may be.
It seems that the requirement to actually produce the Tor Dor 10 is relatively recent. Previously, Immigration seemed willing to accept people's word on their termination date, which of course could then become “recent”, so the overstay fine was either non-existent or minimal. This is no longer the case. The advice now is to obtain the Tor Dor 10 and take it to your local immigration office as soon as possible after finishing your employment.

Health work has been discussed here before, and I think it's possibel if you have exceptional skills. Have a look at this thread to start with:
Althogh not listed as prohibited work, I think it can be hard to get work permit as a health worker:
--
There are certain restricted professions and occupations for which the Labor Department is prohibited from issuing a work permit to foreign nationals. Under Royal Decree B.E. 2522 (1979), an alien is unable to obtain a permit to work in the following occupations:
1. laboring
2. work in agriculture, animal breeding, forestry, fishing and farm supervision (excluding specialized skills for the branch, farm supervision or in the maritime fishing field)
3. masonry, carpentry or other construction work
4. wood carving
5. driving of motor vehicles or non-motorised carriers (except piloting international airplanes)
6. shop attendant and window salespeople
7. auctioneering
8. accountancy supervision, auditing or services in the accounting field (except occasional internal auditing)
9. gem cutting or polishing
10. hair cutting, hair dressing or beautician work
11. hand weaving
12. mat weaving or fabrication of wares from reed, rattan, kenaf, straw or bamboo pulp
13. manual fibre paper making
14. lacquerware making
15. Thai musical instrument fabrication
16. nielloware fabrication v 17. goldsmith, silversmith, or other precious metalwork
18. bronzeware fabrication
19. Thai doll making
20. mattress or padded blanket fabrication
21. alms bowl fabrication
22. manual silk product fabrication
23. Buddha image fabrication
24. knife making
25. paper or cloth umbrella fabrication
26. shoemaking
27. hat making
28. brokerage or agency work (except international business)
29. engineering work, civil engineering branch, which involves designing, drawing, calculation, organization, research, planning, testing, construction supervision or advisory work (except work requiring specialized skills)
30. architectural work involving designing, drawing or estimating as well as construction supervision or advisory work
31. dressmaking
32. pottery or ceramics
33. manual cigarette rolling
34. tourist guide or tour organizing agency
35. hawking business
36. Thai character typesetting
37. clerical or secretarial work
38. legal or litigation service.
The list of restricted occupations has been amended several times by Royal Decree, and an alien desiring to work in Thailand should periodically check if his or her occupation has been added to or removed from the above list. Aliens who perform work in these restricted occupations can be imprisoned up to five years and/or fined from 2,000 to 100,000 baht.

Could be tricky because the Thai Police would need her fingerprints. Have a look at this thread:

Sunbelt,
Not sure that NON-O is the correct visa type for "looking to start a business or buy one". In my opinion it should defintively be a NON-B.
The NON-O visas are for personal/marriage/family/retirement reasons.
Dr Pat Pong, the guru, what u think?
-
Danbo,
Thailand does not have "multiple entry tourist visas", single double or triple entries are most common.
There is (normally) no need to show bank statement for obtaining a Tourist visa at a Thai consulate/Embassy.
Non-Immigrant "O" visas (support, retirement etc) and "B" (Business visa) can be issued with multiple entries.
Not sure I understand your questions though, a bit confusing. Are you going to work or not? Could you clarify please?

I dont think we want the site to be a dating agency ..or do we?
I vote for that Rinrada is telling us where we can find decent Thai ladies! This forum branch, "Farang Pub" is perfect for this type of information...

Get a multiple entry Non-Immigrant "B" visa from a visa friendly Thai consulate in US before travel to Thailand.
Search this forum for "multiple" and you get several threads that gives you an idea where to apply in the US.
Houston seems to be reasonable. That will keep you going for 12-15 months with visa runs every 90 days.
Be aware that you might be considered working illegally in Thailand with your setup, and you should seriously consider starting up a company and apply for a work permit.
-
What you are doing is illegal work. Technically you could apply for another multiple entry visa. You have to apply at a visa freindly Thai consulate then.
You should seriously set up you own company with work permit in Thailand, in order to get legal.
Look at "Incorporation" at the thaivisa.com web site.

Nicke and everybody:
Some news from Immigration, and from Penang:
The new rules does not affect the issuance of Multiple visas in Penang (or elsewhere). You can get your next multiple with (perfect) paperwork even for next year. This new rules is ONLY for The Immigration Bureau in Thailand when you extend to one- year visa.
Hope this helps.
