  1. Am I the only one to think that workers do not deserve any salary hike in this country ?

Shouldn't they show more interest and responsability in their work before expecting any salary increase ?

Have you considered how you would feel working for 150/200 baht a day? I'm surprised that Thai people on minimum wage bother to do anything and I'm not surprised that they try and do the least possible! Perhaps a hike in salary might make for a person to work harder? Of course some decent training wouldn't go amiss either!

  2. I notice the "accident" occurred in the Right hand lane , Thai's are notorious "road hogs" and so how wide the road is ,many insist on driving in the outside lane and no matter how much you flash your headlight or sound your horn they just WILL NOT move to the left so the car at the rear can safely and legally overtake , I have truly lost count of observing them driving in the outside lane then swing to their left to make a left hand turn without even indicating their intentions !!. the "rule of the road" is quite simple ,keep to the left unless overtaking or turning right , this bit of common sense it Totally unknown to the vast majority of Thai drivers.

If you drive in Thailand please learn the highway code first - it is legal to overtake a vehicle driving in the outside lane by using an inner lane!

  3. So Thailand is now officially the only country in the world to give any weight to the trumped up, politically motivated charges against the deposed premier.

What planet do you live on? If these charges against Thaksin are trumped up then I'm afraid I am the world's only pregnant carrot.

As a pregnant carrot you have absolute proof that these charges are not politically trumped up? - (my congratulations to the father)

  4. I really don't have an opinion as to what an adequate wage is for the Thai workers, but I don't quite understand how anyone could think that if you force companies to raise employees wages that you are automatically "injecting" those raises into the economy. Wouldn't it be more likely that the companies will adjust the prices of their products to compensate for having to pay higher wages? And if this happens, isn't this going to just raise the cost of living for the very same people who receive the wage increases?

The only way I can see a variant here is if the only companies that had to raise the amounts they paid in wages were export only companies.

You are the first poster on TV who really doesn't have an opinion - but, if your living here don't you think you should learn something about your adopted Country - things like how much people need to earn to live?

  5. It's going to take Britain 7 years to build High Speed 2 and that is only 120 miles long. How long will it take Thailand to build a railway anything between four and seven times as long and what will the final cost be?

In a country where they can't even get the ordering right for a few School Tablets for kids how are we supposed to believe that the Thai's could manage such a huge undertaking considering the high tech required. We all know that the Chinese and the Jap's are clever but but will they be able to convince Thai 'Engineers' that they know best?

I've said it before and I'll say it again....this won't happen in my lifetime.

if it will take 3 years to deliver the 900.000 tablets, Iam sure you´r right.wink.png

Are these tablets you talk about part of the missing medicine? Government question time!

I think it might but Thai Engineers have found a solution to all problems - limit train speeds to 40km per hour. What, not high speed? Easy slow all other trains to 20km per hour - problems solved!

  7. The more the OP worries that there it will rain during their vacation, the more likely it is it actually will rain during their vacation.

    or

The rain will only actual fall while when you are asleep or when you are in transit between your chosen holiday spots.

    Scientific facts. Both of them.

If you do chose to fly somewhere further afield on the chance of better weather, it will definitely rain more at the new destination.

    or

The rain will only fall during the bits where you are airborne.

    More science!

And remember the old Thai saying 'Umbrellas cheap umbrellas!!'

  8. The biggest issue for me is that while the thugs run around with heavy weapons, ordinary people are left with no tools to defend themselves or their families. The BiB are not much help when you live in the country and the nearest officer is 30 minutes or more away when you call.

30 minutes? In Bangkok it can take up to 3 days! Mainly due to traffic and the fact the the BIB are finishing off their break/lunch/dinner with a few well deserved beers!

  9. Considering the volume and the economic range of taxi customers here, it would be nice to see them offer a premium taxi service as seen in Korea. Average taxis there are ok but the premium taxis offer a better ride(car is higher end), drivers drive better and they provide you with a receipt printed out by a machine when the journey is completed. No disrespect to the current lot of drivers and vehicles but I prefer to not have to listen to politics/country music/religious chanting on the radio while going from A to B, not to mention the 'scents' of Thai taxis, let alone the condition of the cars. I say raise the prices and the standards/professionalism too.

Raise the price! What a great idea then taxi's will be completely out of the price range of the average Thai person. Why don't you just go and buy a car and let those with less money travel by taxi?

  10. Depends, salt or freshwater set up actually, either way here it's cheap... Say 8-10k max for top quality.. As low as 2-3 for not so great... Example I had a 500 gal saltwater built with all import ,filters, carbon and phosphate reactors, uv sterilizer, skimmer, mh lighting, ect done for 100 k about two years ago still no issues.. Check out siamreefclub.com has a lot of info on equipment ect also has an English froum

Check out Chiang Rai Pet and Garden Centre (many advertisements on TV under pets and garden classified section) we supply tanks and all accessories with quality assured at low prices. We also can arrange delivery and have English speaking staff who can advise. tele: 086.225.4731

  11. I love optimists but prefer realists, the very best you can hope for at this stage of the procedings is low 50's, if you dig into it you'll see that 70 baht was unnatuarlly high and unsupportable hence, you will never, ever see 70's again.

12 years ago when the Baht collapsed the pound reached an amazing 140 and stayed there for a few months - 70's? Chicken feed, just hope the baht collapses gain!!!!!

  12. To criticize one first has to establish what level is is referring to when he says "the campaign could be declared a success of a certain level." I mean, Bangkok floods were a success - for the flood water I meant,

the level being 1 meter above ground level. Now let's compare that to the governments earthquake plans - If an entire city is flattened it could be, at a level (no pun intended) considered a success - for the earthquake!! Make sense? Thai politicians (of all parties) are looking for people like you, people who truly understand them!

  13. Her Excellency was not the only one reading an sms. If you had watched you would have seen who else.

    So that makes it ok?

No one kew what her Excellency was actually reading. It culd have been an emergency SMS or a recipe for somtam.

No one said a word about the other person with the cell phone. In fact no mention in the newspapers.

Do I care if an MP looked at an sms in the house iif it was work relaed? No.

Is there a double standard? Yes. Abhisit hasn;t said anything has he?

Aphisit has trouble speaking, unless mommy and daddies money are behind him

  14. Things may sway. Japan has very stringent building codes. I afraid here it wouldbe more like pop goes the weasle and we all fall down.

Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit, however, urged the public not to be overly concerned. "Quakes happen in Japan frequently. Things may sway but people can live normal lives," he said. - I seem to be involved in an earthquake every night and I'm not overly concerned - mind you it could be the beer!giggle.gif
