  1. I have some leather shoes and boots that need repair and professional/machine polishing. Big C Extra used to have a professional, Western-Style shoe/boot/leather repair/maintenance shop on the ground floor. It's no longer providing this service. The wandering Street-Shoe Polishers are useless. Anyone know where there is a professional shoe-repair/polishing shop like in Europe or the States? Thanks in advance for your help.

  2. Heard the same sentiments just before the 1997 Asian financial meltdown. The USD went from 25/1TB to over 50.

Thai property owners couldn't off-load their property quick enough. And property was a bargain - Half Price!

It's like a Ponzi Scheme - don't be the last one to try to sell your inflated priced property. You'll be the looser, and the Condo/Estate developer who sold it to you will be the winner.

In Pattaya, some Residential property has been on the market for years and can't be sold. When the house or condo is finally sold, it is at a loss of 20-40 percent. Sure the Low-end, under 1M condos are being flogged by the developers to the Russians. But Russians are used to living in 30 square meter closets in the "Mother-land". Let "Igor" and "Natashka" try to sell their closet after a few years. No way except to another Igor and Natashka.

The condo/estate developers from the Middle East and India will rake it in as usual, The buyers will be gutted like the fish they are.

  3. Jaded perhaps. Realistic may be a better adjective,

Take a look at our planet and judge for yourself. Perhaps stopping useless expenditures for space, weapons, and wars and using these assests to help those humans who live on this planet may be the way to go. I am sure I am wrong. But I think all those with the bravado of knowing "everything" that have come before us have only demonstrated that no culture, person, or governace has ever gotten it right.

    And I don't either.

  4. Ridiculous waste of money that could have been used for assisiting humans on this planet. I saw the waste when I was a kid in the 1950s & 1960s. Space Race with the Russians - Sputnik - Apollo "BS"-- men on the moon! (Maybe!), Machines to Mars? Useless!

Then war after war -- Vietnam, Middle East Wars, Bosnia, Iraq, You name it!

And this space idiocy is still being funded and people actually care about this useless BS? Cant even get this small planet to work and function properly.

    Unbelievable!

  5. You can view some very fine lithographs (signed and numbered) by famous Japanese and Vietnamese artists at Street Life Wine & Art Gallery. The gallery also has Keith Haring prints as well as circa 1980's modern artists. It has a big sale going on now with up to 40% off. It also carries unique home decor items on the second floor. It is located right inside the Boyz Town sign on the right. Here's the website that shows the art -- http://www.streetlife-pattaya.com/

  6. Nice website Kamluan --- found some place I will visit.

Bought a home for my Thai wife and 2 kids 3 years ago. The house cost more than some other villages I looked at, but I liked the location. My wife got a quick loan at the bank for around 80% with no problem. The village is quiet, streets are clean and the people friendly. I am happy with my purchase.

  7. Read the following this morning on the Nation's website under "Breaking News"-- only Bangkok was indicated. At least this source has some credibility

Deputy PM's Secretary-General Panithan Watanayakorn said Thursday that the curfew will still be imposed in Bangkok for another day.

He said the curfew is still needed to facilitate the operations of security forces as armed protesters were still fighting against the authorities.

    The Nation

  8. Message for all home owners in Thailand and Pattaya

Your 10 million baht condo or house is now worth about 99 baht.

    :)

    99 Baht !!!-- Clever comment ---

Stop being jealous of people who can afford what you obviously cannot.......

Guess what? Thailand will weather this storm. People will still post on this website and tourists will still come to Thailand.

But I hope people like you will visit Vietnam or Cambodia instead.

By the way -- if you have any property here, I will be more than happy to purchase it for 10% of the fair market value (99 Baht Fire Sale)-- CASH!!

  9. Easy to get rid of 30% of all the bars and discos -- foreign or Thai operated -- without any "hint" of prejudice or favoritism ---

    Know how?

Simply enforce the order demolishing the 101 illegal structures on the ocean side of Walking Street that were supposed to be demolished pursuant to court order over 10 years ago.

These structures should have been demolished a long, long, time ago --

  10. Interesting article in the Pattaya Times.

Question: Will this "historic" crackdown take place before or after the 101 illegal structures on the ocean side of Walking Street are demolished pursuant to the much-litigated order that was issued over 10 years ago?

Or perhaps the "work permits" of the Western Go-Go girls working on Walking Street will be amended to include the following: "Bar fines and short times shall not be allowed as part of your multi-lingual Hostess duties".

  11. A lawyer? Perhaps but you certainly are no word smith.

Your tale is a shocking indictment on your education.

I have a suggestion for the "English Grammar Professor".

Before you have the audacity to criticize another person's grammar, ask yourself the following question.

Can I form a sentence better than a five year old child?

    Asiacup2007 ---------- No you can't!

    Try this........

"Are you really a lawyer? Perhaps you are....etc."

Using cliches and/or platitudes such as "word smith", "tale" or "shocking indictment" only demonstrates your inability to communicate in written English.

But at least your spelling is correct.....but the words are really very simple!

My Point -- We all live in a "Glass House" -- Be careful when you throw rocks!

  12. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced living in either Pattaya or Phuket for a year or more and then moving to one or the other location.

If so, what would you consider to be the main differences within the context of lifestyle such as -- cost of living, home/condo prices, medical care, dining, business operation, etc.

I have viewed both the Pattaya and Phuket forums regularly and see that both locations have its unique problems such as crime, transportation issues, etc. just like any place in the world when viewed as a resident versus a tourist.

Just interested in your comments. There are no better insights than those coming from people who have to live in a place on a day-to-day basis.

  13. Bangkok Pattaya Hospital (038 259 999) has an excellent urology department.

Either Dr. Jimmuy Kongcharoen or Dr. Pornchai Chayaboon are both Board Certified and have years of experience.

Also -- should you see later posts bashing Bangkok Pattaya Hospital -- don't be put off.....

Go see either of these physicians. Do some research on the Web into your condition. Ask questions and make up your own mind as to the competence of these physicians or any physician.

  14. Just visited www.highspeedthai.com and was wondering if anyone has had experience with this course.

It seems like a well thought out structure. But it is a bit expensive. I have tried several methods before and would like an opinion before I spend the money.

    Thanks

  15. If you are serious about this -- simply approach Sophon Cable with your attorney and talk about Sophon licensing you a channel like Pattaya People has or a time slot like Pattaya Mail and Pattaya One has.

You will have to use a Thai nominee as the owner because all media business is off limits to foreigners.

You can get a work permit to allow you to be a presenter - just like the presenter on Pattaya One and the other presenters on the various shows.

I suggest you use a reputable, multi-national law firm to guide you through the process such as Baker MacKenzie.

Be aware - this is an expensive undertaking and advertising revenues (called "Suggestions" for legal reasons) are harder and harder to find these days.

    Good luck ---

  16. Same as Election Day -- No Booze

Restaurants and Bars can stay open -- Just can't sell Booze

Foreigners at any restaurant or bar on these days -- make sure you carry your passport (or a copy) along with a valid visa stamp -- Cops have a right to "demand" seeing evidence that you have a legitimate right to stay in Thailand..........

If you get caught in a place that is violating the law, you will have problems.........

Remember -- this is THEIR country -- if you don't like the rules and regulations -- Get on the next plane and leave the country........
