  1. I agree. The tax authorities don't possess the necessary expertise to efficiently handle tax matters for foreigners from many countries who bring money into Thailand from various sources, some with dual taxation agreements and some without. I had an experience when I visited the tax office four years ago to register for taxes as I was renting out a property in Thailand. When I inquired about the necessity of registering for tax as a foreigner, their response was, "It's up to you."
  2. Probably right, but as usual not much information. Better to find out before you get caught on the hop
  3. Absolutely nothing in that statement to say that there anything wrong with him
  4. You don't know that, she's 58, he could outlast her. He has all the rights to use the house and she's given away her rights in the Usufruct. We don't know her circumstances, If she needs money then she might well go for some split of the proceeds, I didn't mention half. At 58 she won't be getting many hits on Thai Friendly over the next few years. He doesn't have many options, if he can negotiate and come away with something, that's better than spending his last years miserably, fighting what's probably going to be a losing battle.
  5. I understand what goes on and agree that it could take years waiting for lawyers if there's a dispute. That's why I suggested he come to an agreement with her to sell and split the proceeds. If a buyer was found and they agreed to share the proceeds it could go through in weeks. That depends on how much she needs money. She's 58 and he's 75, he could conceivably live for another 10-15 years.
  6. Yes, it could get very nasty. I would say your best option is to get an agreement with her if you can and sell up. You have a usufruct so she can't sell at any reasonable price without your agreement to rescind the usufruct and you can't sell without hers as the owner. Talk to a Lawyer by all means but lawyers can get you tied up for years and you don't want that at 75. Try and agree to a split of the proceeds and market the property. A lawyer will see you won't get scammed when you find a buyer and rescind the usufruct at the same time she sells and the proceeds are split. Then start a new life and put it behind you.
  7. Mr A. had been involved in several altercations during the festival Hard to believe he's unaware of the Songkran tradition as he's obviously not just arrived in Pattaya.
  8. Just did it online 12 days before the due date. Can't get to work with Google Chrome, works fine with MS Edge, not sure about other browsers. Turn off your VPN if you're using one. Seems it only accepts a Thai IP address.
  9. Should lose his taxi license but probably won't happen. Fine and a wai and back on the road with his red taxi jacket and probably his knife too.
  10. No mention of what's happened to the money. Under the CRS rules, I believe it can be held until a satisfactory explanation of where it came from is given.
  11. With China declaring itself in a partnership with Russia and its president having no contact with Ukraine since the beginning of the war can anyone expect this so-called peace plan to be anything more than an offer for Ukraine to surrender?

  13. By obtaining a 1 year education visa renewable every 3 months and supposedly "learning Thai"
  14. from Pattaya to Chanthaburi province for visa extensions Jomtien Immigration Closed?
  15. Unless they already received draft papers they are unlikely to be arrested on return. 50k baht a year will get them an ED visa extended every 3 months.
  16. So simple to resolve. The rental companies should be heavily fined for renting without checking the license as happens in most countries but that wont happen. Most will want to see your passport but not interested if you have a license. As usual punish the victim unless of course he is Thai.
  17. Taxi Scams Remain Top Complaint Among Foreign Tourists in Thailand So easy to resolve if the Gov wanted to. Like elsewhere I've seen, all Taxis need to display in the car sign "No Meter No Charge" Best use Grab or Bolt.
  18. These are maximum fines. Does that mean the police have discretion as to the amount? I see dual pricing coming. Farang 4000 baht Thai 500 baht
  19. The police officer in the meantime continues with his investigation. He searches through the personal possessions to establish an ID of the individual. He secures the veteran’s possessions and takes them to the police station to begin his task. Hmmm !
