That explains why the staff member issuing my IDP (in Rayong) was asking me which country I was going to visit. I got the 1968 one.
Too bad there are 2 versions, I guess I'll have to go get another one if I ever intend to drive in Japan.

I don't think the current old meter can handle off-peak metering.
Not 100% sure, but in Aus water heaters are connected to off-peak supply and at low grid usage times (say 0200 to 0400hr) and the power company sends some pulses down the line that enables off-peak supply cost rates that are lower than normal rates.
I think that's why in Thailand you have to have a separate TOU meter to get the low rates.
So my thoughts are that PEA shoots themselves in the foot for not supplying the TOU meters as more people would then go to full solar for the house and EV charging, therefore PEA loses out.
Well, they stopped it because people were cheating and using the extra meter for other stuff in the house. I do plan to start getting into solar at some point.

In that case why not get another off-peak meter (TOU think it's called) and use it for car charging only. Then you can charge during cheaper electricity rates.
Have to see PEA.
As someone already replied, PEA refuses to do it now. Which is understandable if their current meters are capable of handling home chargers.

You could take a walk and find a meter with blue wires and compare the size of those blue wires to yours.
You do have enough power at the meter, the issue is whether your wiring to the house is big enough. In Chiang Mai, our electrician took a second set of wires from the meter to a 40amp ELCB and then a 32 amp socket. We have the standard wall mounted MG charger on the wall with a 32 amp plug fitted. When we sell the house, the charger is not a permanent fixture and won't be sold with the house.
My plan is to install this charger very close to the meter itself, so the idea is to get a dedicated wire coming out of the meter that will feed this setup (ELCB->socket->charger). In this case it's not really relevant what sort of wire is going into the house, correct?

You have a new digital meter. It's accurate between 5 and (100) amps. Your car will charge at 32 amps.
What we don't know is what meter you had before, it was a 5/15 then the chances are the wires from the meter to the house are too small.
Are any of the wires at the meter blue by any chance? Blue means 5/15 amp, not blue doesn't necessarily mean the opposite.
I would ask an electrician to come and ask him to fit an industrial 32 amp socket where you want your charger and on it's own dedicated 40 amp breaker. If you don't have an ELCB breaker before your new socket, then fit one.
Then I would buy a portable EV Charger like the one below or a permanent one and ask them to fit a short tail and 32 amp plug on it.
That's great advice, thank you. The wires from the meter to the house are black I believe. Regardless, I'll do what you suggested and fit a dedicated beefy breaker/socket/wires straight out of the meter.
PEA should've just said "you've got a 100A meter, it's more than enough for a standard car charger, have a nice day" instead.

How small is your meter?
5/15 and you have a problem, 15/45 and you probably don’t.
No idea, the only label in the meter that suggests something says 5(100)A
The meter model is EMS12J

Do you have 3 phase Supply in your Road available, and from where do you get your Wallbox?
Yes there is, but I heard and read that going from 2 phase to 3 phase would require major changes in the house electrical grid, which I want to avoid.

Getting my first EV here (booked, didn't confirm yet), they don't provide the charger but I don't mind to pay.
We live in a home with 2 phases and the small amp meter. The lady at the dealership said it's simple and we could request at PEA for a 3 phase, a bigger meter (30/100A) or a separate meter just for the car.
I found some meters on Homepro and they say in order to install it the home needs at least the 30/100A meter. Ok, sent wife off to PEA and they told her the only way to get approval for the 30/100A meter is to have the charger already installed, then the PEA technician will confirm that it actually needs a more capable meter.
But Homepro (for obvious reasons) refuses to install the charger unless the meter meets the specifications.
So it's a paradox. Can't install the charger without a 30/100A meter but can't get a 30/100A meter without a charger that demands it! How the hell am I supposed to get one then? Brown envelope?

Everyone know this. But these "arsonists" are not simple farmers you can simply fine them to stop. They're suppliers to billionaire industries that will lose big money if this burning stops. And every government knows well that is not a good idea to upset billionaires.

It's not a matter of how many, but a matter of "who".
If you're a random farang, a poor villager/child or some unknown elder then nothing will happen, the owner will get away with a slap in the wrist and the dog might get away with it as well.
In order for something to actually change it would take a respected/rich family's child or someone actually important (a politician for example) to be mauled/killed. But these people won't be riding a bicycle in a random soi so the odds are almost non existent.

I wonder if it would be possible to find a Thai lady that would:
- Clean the house, do the laundry- Keep track and shop for the items (food, hygiene, cleaning etc)
- Keep track and pay bills
- Deal with services/technicians when needed (internet, aircon)
- Take action when there is a medical situation, know the basics of first aid- Speak good English
- Not bring friends/guys/family over. Not be an alcoholic
- Honest, trustworthy
NOT be a wife/gf, no sex, not be jealous of anything.
I reckon a person like that would deserve a pretty good monthly salary, if I was older and alone I would pay north of 50k/month for that.

About strays:
Those who want these dogs free to torment whatever soi/beach they want are the ones responsible for most of the suffering.
The great majority of these stray dogs have a very harsh life, enduring various diseases, fights, pain, fractures (hit by a vehicle), abuse and hunger.
By "supporting" the very existence of these stray dogs people are enabling this cycle of suffering to continue. Feeding them is possibly the worst way to help the situation, it's just helping them to create new generations of outspring.
IMO the most merciful thing to do would be removing them and putting them up at a shelter, but due to the size of the problem it would be extremely expensive to have enough shelters. Culling in the most painless way would be a second option.
Neutering and releasing on the same spot is already being done by some NGOs, it surely helps in a way but it doesn't seem to be stopping the problem, there are just too many.
Since no one "important" is getting bitten - just random farangs and poorer Thais - nothing will be done.

Reading some of the comments here I'm actually glad it's the Thai police making the investigation. Many of you are absolutely anti-Thai anti-Soi6 and would do everything to blame security/bars despite the video evidence.
No mob, no punching, no kicking, no brutality, no bars involved - just ONE security guy with a "get away" push after the foreigner persisted in the confrontation. Unfortunately he fell in a bad way given his age and condition.

CCTV footage captured the altercation, clearly showing there was no punching involved, only pushing, which led to the tourist falling and injuring himself.
So instead of amending the original post why put this on the middle of page 5 where almost no one will see?
Every paragraph of the original article contains a made up lie.

so she was 15 when she began motherhood, and her mother was 13 when she began motherhood...
I wonder how old the great grandmother and great-great grandmother are...
If they keep this going and the oldest lives to be like 90-ish they could achieve a living 6-7 generation span. The baby would have a mom, a grandma, a great granma, a great-great grandma, a great(3x)grandma and even a great (4x) grandma.

When will Thailand start to take street dog problem seriously? When will dogs that attack people just be put down to avoid new accidents? And when will owners of these dogs be responsible for any damage their dogs are doing??
When someone "important" gets attacked. Farangs, farmers, ordinary workers and their children aren't really relevant unfortunately.
If the victim was an influential politician's kid, or some Chinese tourist (needs to be on video and go viral) then we would likely see some changes.

Ok, so I went to immigration today and they said I don't actually need the TM30 even after an international trip if I'm returning to the same address.
A bit off topic: just on a side note if you leave the country you can't do the next 90 day report online, it needs to be done in person.

My experience is that the smog is caused by farmers burning the leftovers from the crops. It's always said that 'next year' it will be fixed. They never do. Make it illegal and fine violators. Set up a collection system for the trash. The gov't could even assist in the cost to the farmers.
5 hours ago, JBChiangRai said:It is so easy to fix the agricultural burning.
Any field burning will be identified by satellite and no growing on that field will be permitted that year. The army will destroy any crops grown in contravention of that order.
You're unaware of the real reason this is happening. It's pretty easy to tackle the issue with current technology and stopping the farmers from burning.
However, it's not that simple. Stopping these burns will affect the supply chain of the sugar cane and this would cause losses to billionaires. Any politician properly tackling this problem won't remain in power for too long.
I don't see the burning stopping anytime soon unfortunately.

Villagers Demand Action After Foreigner’s Pit Bulls Maul Dog to Death
in Pattaya News
Posted
The dog should this...the owner should that...the law should be...
Nothing will happen. Worst case scenario he gets aggro from the whole village and just moves to another village.
Same has happened a few years ago when a similar farang owned dog disfigured a 3 year old toddler. The dog lives, the owner just moved villages and had the audacity to say the toddler "provoked" the dog and made it run to the street.
It would take a very "important" victim to change something, not an ordinary child or an ordinary dog. Would have to be a child/dog belonging to a very wealthy and powerful family or a loved celebrity, only then some law might be changed.
