To do something at a reasonable price, quite a few cars have had engine swaps to a 2jz and then modded from there.  Are you actively looking to buy something, or are you just after information?

It's not urgent, I already have a sub 7s car, but considering an upgrade if I find something later this year. The problem is that my car is 2014, comfortable, over 200hp, low mileage (45k) and has recent tech (keyless, rear camera, 6 air bags etc) and I paid less than 500k for it.

Would be hard to swap to a modded car from who knows what year (199x?). I found a Nissan 215SX with this engine on FB but it must be like 1992. I don't want to sacrifice everything only to make a quick 0-100, I'd like some comfort and tech as well.

Good to know, I haven't thought about these. However, they are cheap for a reason, any repairs on these cars would cost me a kidney and a testicle.

2010 Audi TTS can also be had for a little over a million.

Good find, will keep that in mind too.

  2. I've been looking at fast cars (let's say 0-100 under 6 seconds), and the market is really strange for cars like that.

Under 1M you either have to completely sacrifice any comfort and go for a modded 1993 Nissan 300ZX or a fake Mitsubishi EVO (Lancer/Cedia fitted with a doubtful source EVO engine). Less comfort than those upcountry tuk tuks made from modified motorbikes.

Anything remotely decent the past 20 years is over 1.5M and usually has very high mileage. A 2009 Nissan 370z (0-100 around 5.5s, not even that fast) is often over 2M baht for a 10+ years car with close to 100,000km on it.

That's where the performance paradox comes in, at 2.3M it's already possible to buy a brand NEW Volvo V60 t8 which goes 0-100 in 4.5s. It's not really a 2 seater coupe but everything else (power, comfort, warranty, features, technology) completely blows anything 2nd hand in that price range. Anything that has comparable performance will cost over 3M even used - let's say a BMW M3 E92 2010.

Am I just looking in the wrong places or is it just not making any sense?

  3. Every time I call or receive a call  (voice or video) on facebook messenger, I keep hearing that beep and it never connects. This only happens when I'm using my Truemove 4G connection and only happens when using Facebook  messenger - if I use Line messenger it works perfectly. For other applications such as youtube everything works very well too.

My wife also has a Truemove simcard and has the same issue. It's not our phones because if we connect to a wifi we can make those calls without issues.

I'm strongly suspecting that Truemove deliberately blocked FB Messenger calls to save bandwidth or something. Could that really happen?

  4. As a car driver and as a pedestrian I see that BOTH sides are wrong sometimes.

I do stop for pedestrians on every zebra crossing, but despite putting loads of crossings  on beach road, many brainless pedestrians cross OUTSIDE the damn crossing walks - completely ignoring a well placed crosswalk with a big nice button to trigger the red light for cars.

Many also ignore the fact that when the light is green for cars they're supposed to WAIT. I'm talking about the new crosswalks, not those on 3rd road junctions when pedestrians have no choice because it's always green for cars from one direction.

As a pedestrian I try my best to follow the rules, and in places where we have a proper crosswalk and traffic I do USE them as intended - I press the button and cross when it's green for me and red for cars. For me a much more dangerous issue are motorbikes going the wrong way in some roads (2nd road for example), it can definitely be a risk for pedestrians who technically are supposed to look just one way but might be surprised.

Another thing that ticks me off are pedestrians that don't use the sidewalk (when there is a usable one).

  5. It's not a complete scam, but most of the very significant discounts can be impossible to obtain if they're out of stock even before the sale starts, this is what my rant is about.

I understand an item selling out in the first 10 minutes, but not being unavailable before I get at least a chance.

Anyway I got a few items with a decent discount, it was a good thing overall.

  6. I see Lazada advertising heavily on 12.12 discounts, some of the items I found will be at a really good price once the discount. For example, Lego sets for my kid.

However, every time in the past that I tried to buy anything with a decent discount on these occasions it shows out of stock, even within the first hour of the advertised day.

One time I actually managed to pay for a camera lens at a very good price, only to get a message later refunding me because they didn't actually have it.

I don't want to miss the Lego sets this time, what is the best way to get them? Add them to cart and wait until 00:00:01 of 12.12 and pay immediately?

Then they changed the format, and for what?

Now they made the bars open air, just like a beer bar. How boring is that? There is nothing like the bars of old where you walked in and it was almost completely dark with a very very nice atmosphere with loads of company.

Boring enough to have the bars up there busier than ever. More and more bars follow this trend of opening up because that's the way to make more money.

Some people say that they prefer the closed style bars, but they do little to support that model. Many of them when go out try to spend as little as they can, the bar can't survive with those customers, it needs some bells rings now and then and the open bars seem to get a lot more of them.

The market dictates what it wants and it's not the 2000's style bar.

  8. I need to get official (certified by Ministry of foreign affairs) translations of a few documents (marriage cert, birth cert, house book, etc), but time is valuable to me and I would like to know if all this can be done in one day - and how early would I have to get there?

I could use a service from Pattaya but last time they messed up a name translation and I don't want that to happen again. I'd rather be there to make sure they don't screw up this time as my embassy will be very unforgiving even with the smallest mistake.

What's the easiest safe way for me to get it done?

  9. I have a cousin from Brazil that lives in Europe, and hasn't been to Brazil for over a year.

Brazilian nationals are normally required to present the yellow fever certificate upon entrance. But the MFA website says they don't need to if they can prove they live in a safe area (which he does).

Is this easy to prove just from passport stamps? Is it done at the health control booth or the passport control?

  10. By having a Brazilian passport, every time I come into Thailand I must present my yellow fever vaccine international certificate at the health control before I make it to the immigration booth.

My current certificate will expire in 2020. When I took that vaccine in 2010, the immunisation was thought to last 10 years. However, the WHO has issued an amendment stating that from 11 July 2016 the certificate of vaccination against yellow fever is valid for the life of the person vaccinated. ( http://www.who.int/ith/updates/20160727/en/ )

This means my certificate is in fact good for life despite the 2020 expiration date.

I could get another certificate in Brazil based on the current one that would be good for life, but this is the reason I'm creating the thread: My trips to Brazil have been rare and with very limited time, and to obtain this lifetime certificate I would have to travel and use a whole day that could be better spent with family or friends instead of dealing with a crowded place with lots of bureaucratic obstacles.

    Here are the two questions:

Will the health control officers be on par with the WHO amendment and accept my expired certificate (due to it being actually lifetime)?

If not, is there a way to obtain a lifetime certificate in Thailand by presenting my current one?

  11. If using a immigration office that has different desk for stamp transfers and extensions it might be worthwhile to do the stamp transfer before applying for the extension.
After getting the stamps transfered you have to get copies of the transferred stamps in your new passport done before applying for the extension.

Yes, there are different desks. Better take care of the transfers first then.

So it doesn’t matter if I do this transfer today or late september? Assuming I’m not traveling.

    Thanks a lot

  12. I’m on a yearly marriage based extension that will need to be renewed in october.

Just got my new passport yesterday (old one would expire in january). Do I need to transfer the extension stamp to the new one asap? Do I have to do it at all? I’m not planning to leave the country before getting the next extension

In early October i must apply for the new extension anyway.

Technically yes but in reality no. Immigration would not be aware his work permit had expired. No problem on entry to the country.

He needs to get the new work permit as soon as possible.

Thanks, so he will be fine re-entering the country and then applying to a new WP on that same visa without them questioning?

  14. I have a friend who forgot to renew his WP that expired about a month ago. His current visa extension was obtained based on his expired WP and still has around 6 more months left.

He has the multi entry allowance, and he wonders what sort of trouble he will get into by leaving the country (by plane) and trying to use the multi entry when coming back.

Is he technically on overstay already? Will immigration at the airport know about this?

Some people told him he is already on overstay due to an expired WP.

He did not have the YF certificate.. They didn t allow him going out.. They gave him the shot and he had to stay 48 hours in the custom space of the airport before being allowed to enter Thailand..

That's exactly the answer I was looking for. Thanks.

I think many members don't know that people with passports from certain countries (most of Africa and South America) MUST present the vaccination certificate, regardless where they've been in the past year.

Anyway, he managed to get one vaccine by presenting his travel ticket. A scheduled trip that requires the vaccine gives you priority so all good.

  16. I couldn't find an answer anywhere for this question: what happens if someone coming from a country that requires a yellow fever shot doesn't have the proper vaccination certificate when arriving at Suvarnabhumi?

A relative from Brazil will come visit me here and right now the vaccine is pretty much impossible to find, the media set the population on panic and every place that provides it needs previous scheduling (and there are no spots left for the next 2 months), his trip is in about a month.

Assuming that he would not have the certificate and is able to board, what would happen at the airport here? Would they just give him a shot and allow him in?

  17. I also believe that the drone complicated (and LONG) registration process has caused a big impact on sales.

The one I want (DJI Spark Combo) was up for sale for 17999b today at Lazada (for a short period). Before the registration thing it used to be 28000b, then soon after the announcement it dropped to 24999, then to 23ish and now I see this 17999. And even at this price point I'm not taking it because I don't want to wait 2-3 months for the registration process.

Very efficient way to kill the market.

They haven't answered one question for me yet, all I get from them is that the application and other paperwork will not be processed until I provide proof of insurance translated into English for some reason that only a Thai bureaucrat would know.   And that it will take 60 to 90 days for approval since your records have to be checked with several Thai agencies

In other words, if I buy a brand new drone (say a small DJI Spark) I would technically need at least 2 months (if I'm lucky) to be able to fly it without committing a crime?

That really sucks, there should be an easy way to do it like registering with your passport at the moment of purchase just like a Simcard.

No need to do a TM28 unless you change addresses.

Unless you need to do something at immigration even a TM30 form will not be needed.

I went to Jomtien immigration today to report my change of address. Brought both the TM28 and TM30 properly filled (by me and by the landlord respectively), along with copies of my passport, landlord ID and contract.

They took the TM30, and put the bottom part (they filled) in my passport.

I asked them twice about the TM28 and they say it wasn't needed. Am I ok?

I live and work here, staying on a marriage extension

  20. I'm a little confused about the dates.

Today I signed the contract with the new landlord, house needs a few things (painting, small repairs) and will be ready in about a week from now. Until these things are done, I'm not actually staying there.

Should I bring the TM28 and TM30 to immigration right after signing the contract (in this case today/tomorrow), or  only after I'm actually staying in there?
