  1. Incredibly bad luck...RIP to the van driver...that had to be one very messy clean up, feel bad for the guys who had to do that...sheesh.

The containers should be secured in the corners to the chassis, think it is pretty standard setup worldwide.

I agree GAS, condolences to the innocent van driver.

As to the accident if the container was travelling on an approved trailer chassis with standard corner locking mechanisms attachicon.giflocks.jpg used internationally on trucks, trains and ships, then it is doubtful the container would have shifted.

The photo angle suggests he was not on the actual " Uttaraphimuk Elevated Tollway" but on one of the elevated

ramps leading to or from PathumThani west or east. Perhaps he was taking the curve too fast and the container shifted with fatal results. The potential for more deaths in that very busy area is incredible. IMHO.

I have seen very few ISO Container Chassis with twist locks in Thailand. Very unsafe to put on a flatbed without tie-downs. TIT

  2. My wife has had a banking relationship with Bangkok Bank for nearly 50 years. We always used Bank of America in the USA for our credit cards. However, when BofA instituted a foreign transaction fee we decided to get a Bangkok Bank credit card. Since neither of us has Thailand based income BBL refused to issue a credit card without a fixed deposit account to guarantee the account. As a matter of principle I refused to do this. We went into Kasikorn Bank in our local area. The manager at the branch contacted the head office and told them she knows my wife and her family, that we owned a big house, and would not run away. Kasikorn Bank issued us credit cards with no fixed deposit account. We moved all our funds into Kasikorn Bank and just have 2 minimum deposit accounts with Bangkok Bank for direct deposits from Social Security through Bangkok Bank in New York. Every time a payment is received we immediately transfer it to K-Bank. The staff at BBL ask why, and I show them the K-Bank Visa Card and tell them Bangkok Bank just said "NO".

  3. I know the coup-mongers will be all up in the air about this and play the holier-than-thou card, plus who the perps were is anybody's guess....However, even in well policed societies it is generally known by the criminal element, that messing with the police personally, is risky......Not that this is anywhere close, but someone who kills or injures a policeman better make tracks, and fast. Revenge may be slow in coming, but come it will....The Police are a fraternity of brothers in the end. You mess with one, you mess with them all.

Unless you are the heir to a famous energy drink.

  5. Is Thailand corrupt to the core? No. Not any more than a lot of countries and less than other countries.

The civil war is going to be between the haves and the have nots. It always is. Are the have nots any more corrupt than the haves? No. If the haves are corrupt we can't discuss it anyway.

Chicago was a corrupt city when I lived there but it ran well. That's all the folk care about. Daily made Chicago run.

Would I rather have a corrupt mayor like Daily or a mayor like Detroit or Washington DC? Chicago any day.

Thailand's problem is not corruption it is feudalism. Thailand is changing from a feudal society to a modern society that changes rulers by election and not by guns and bayonets. The rulers are elected. A large percent of Thailand and indeed ThaiVisa can't accept that.

I was born and lived in Chicago for 36. The corruption was different. It was money coming from the business and and private sectors going to the politicians for special favors. The politicians were not stealing (skimming) the governments money.

  6. "Customer Service" is an oxymoron. I had a recent experience dealing with the call center of a major bank:

My credit card was cracked and I needed a replacement. She said for security reasons she would have to cancel my current card and the issue a replacement card. She said it would take 6 to 8 days. I did not want to be without a credit card for that length of time and asked to talk to a supervisor. As usual the supervisor was not available. I gave her my saving account numbers and asked her to look at my balances. I told her my son had a similar situation with another bank and they sent him a replacement card and only cancelled his other card when he called to activate the new card. She said she could not do that. I asked her if I should change banks. She replied, "It's up to you sir."

I then went to the banks website and got the name of the VP of Customer Service. I called him, spoke with his secretary. Problem solved with no inconvenience.

  7. All manuals are available in English. I bought a new Honda City in September. At first the sales coordinator said not available. I said that's impossible because Thai production is exported to Australia, India, S'pore, etc. After much delay I talked to the managing director of the dealership and said I would contact Honda Thailand myself and 2 days later I had the English manual.

See this link for contact info:

    Hope this is helpful.

  8. This from a country where the national sport is invading other countries and toppling legitimate governments to be replaced by American puppet governments. Methinks America should keep it's big mouth shut

Remember that your flying the Union Jack and not a Swastika or "Hammer and Sickle" because of America.

  9. There is no pizza anywhere in Thailand. What passes for pizza here are dribbles on some low quality doah.

Being from NYC I think I can speak about pizza - NY pizza is only available in NYC, even crossing the Hudson River to NJ you lose that NYC quality. One slice of an authentic NY pizza contains more food than a whole pizza in Thailand.

Pizzas origin is not Italian it's from Coney Island boardwalk in the 1940's after the war. Italian immigrants working the boardwalk baked lasagne and other deep dish Southern Italian foods. They tossed some thickened doah onto the bottom of the ovens to catch the drips from the deep dish items - that's what they ate for themselves. Someone eventually started to sell the dripped sauce fallen onto the doah and wella pizza was born. Pizza became a bar-food, an easy way to get a liquor permit as NY law then had it that to sell booze you had to also offer food and pizza was easy and fast. Up until the mid 50's pizza was only available in NYC but gradually it worked it's way to NJ and then westward ho. and eventually found it's way to Italy and 'round the world but the NY recipe was never quite the same outside of NYC.

Please see this link for The History of Pizza.

  10. Hienz Salad Creme, I'm 62 and American and have never seen this product in the USA. I am a big salad eater so I should have seen it if it were on the shelfs.

I'm very sorry to say but neither your age or nationality are a reference.

Salad cream is a cheap substitute for mayonnaise developed in the UK.

  11. I use half mayonnaise and half Miracle Whip, Heinz type of chili sauce which is like a tomato chutney, sweet pickle relish. and tabasco sauce. Unfortunately Heinz Chili Sauce is not available in Thailand. I make my own. You can substitute ketchup and a dash of Worchester Sauce. Pickle relish is available at Foodland and Villa, but only for very rich people. I also make my own.
