  1. You said you have business. What bank do you use? I would deal with that bank. If they can't help you change banks.

We live in Angthong. I am retired. For years my wife and I dealt with Bangkok Bank. When Bank of America began charging a fee for foreign transactions I wanted to get a credit card in Thailand. Since I have no work permit and my wife and I have no income in Thailand Bangkok Bank refused to give us a credit card. I went to Kasikorn Bank and told them I wanted to get a credit card and would move my deposits to K-Bank. The application was first rejected for the same reasons as Bangkok Bank. The branch manager called the head office and said she knows and trusts me. The application was approved.

We still have 2 accounts at Bangkok Bank for transfers through Bangkok Bank in New York. We maintain a balance of 200 baht in each account. Every time a transfer comes in we immediately withdraw it and deposit it in K-Bank.

  2. I am an American and a native speaker. By the way I don't know about "affect or effect" and never use "whom" except in a letter beginning "To whom it may concern". Until a Thai English teacher told me there are 12 tenses, I thought there were 3; yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

The purpose of language is communication. Unfortunately most of the children who finish high school in Thailand can't communicate in English. However, they do know grammar and structure.

I have been helping at the primary school near my home for many years. I could write a book about the failure of English education in Thailand, and how to improve it, but nobody wants to read it. But the children in our village can communicate. I'm proud of this.

  3. For your information, the following questions are a part of the DS-160 Visa Application:

    Security and Background Information

Have you ever been arrested or convicted for any

offense or crime, even though subject of a pardon,

    amnesty, or other similar action?

Have you ever been involved in, or do you seek to

    engage in, money laundering?

Have you committed, ordered, incited, assisted, or

otherwise participated in extrajudicial killings, political

killings, or other acts of violence?

I wonder what answers were given?

Any "Yes" answer requires a detailed explanation.
