  1. I see Rustica next to Panna has shut down? or has it moved?

as this thread was about Rustica - and it's not there any more - I was hoping someone, in between all the arguing, might say if it's closed for good or moved? one place it is not is at Punna!

BTW you may hate this but I love the Pizza Company pizzas they deliver and would rate them better than most (not all) I have had in restaurants here

but not as good as the one I had in Rome - but when in Rome etc.

  2. Thank you just what we need today a name caller! - you are a credit to the gay militant faction - and have obviously not read the thread where I have defended gay equal rights and several other posters similar views to mine

You haven't -- you have defended "less-than-equal" rights. In fact, you started by questioning the logic of it, then made bogus claims about religion in Thailand and gay marriages being counter to Buddhism. Then you brought in Tibetan Buddhism and misrepresented that as well ......

The post that Tawp replied to has you calling me arrogant etc .... which makes it a bit hypocritical to complain about being called a name.

You are also making an assumption that someone else is gay ... which to my knowledge is a fact not in evidence.

Always "fun" to have you around though :)

boring.. boring... you lost the argument a long time ago smile.gif what's the thing with the 'fun'? in every post?

hmmm Beat you on the logic argument -- you dropped it and switched to Thai Buddhism

beat you on the Thai Buddhism argument .... you switched to Tibetan.

beat you on the Tibetan Buddhism argument (even though we are in Thailand .. LOL) ...

then beat you on the parenting and marriage arguments ... so simply --- you are correct.

The name calling thing ... well I guess I beat you on that too since quoted in the very post you were complaining about someone calling you a name ... you were calling someone else names :)

    You are "fun" :)

a legend in your own mind smile.gif

  4. JD - a word you like to throw around a lot is "bigot"

I suggest you look in the mirror before continuing to label others as a bigot.

A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs.

exactly but he's too arrogant to ever even consider it - sad really

I am writing it for my own pleasure and edification

therein lies the truth :) still it must be very comforting to think you are always right :)

Yes, unlike you that seem to write most of your posts knowing that you are wrong or on thin ice.

    Lanna-loving Gay-bashing Red Shirt supporter...CM51 has a farang member?

  5. Not always that I have free time, just some times in this periode(still do not know for how long I will have time like this) that I want take a rest a bit after many years 7days a week working. Here(In this website) seems I am sitting in many different class rooms (English, economic, idea exchange, humanity, learn to be better, profit and non-profit life,....) , I like it , we do not need to show who we are and when we want to help other people or think what we can do for them, we do not need to choose black or white, poor/rich, good/not good people, just do it then keep in our mind... today we have something done or learn something.

    :sorry:

well Kudos to you for apologizing jap.gif there's still hope on TV for politeness and 'niceness' cheers!

  6. You can ask at the office of Metropolitan Waterworks Authority in Chiang Mai or call center number : 1125 , search in website

    http://www.mwa.co.th...&filename=index

The price for bulk sale water is around 10.50 baht/ cubic meter and 13.00 baht/cubic meter, depend on type that you want to order.

The tariffs you can check here:

    http://www.mwa.co.th...ews.php?nid=309

    1000 lites = 1 cubic meter (right?)

thanks for taking the time to share this useful info - ignore the attack - it's endemic on TV and most of us appreciate your assistance

  7. it's a fair assessment - Dems will probably form next government with 'help' - PT will get most single party seats and if I were them I'd be lobbying BJT. I have spoken to many Thai friends and many say the Dems would get increased vote if they dumped Suthep - especially from the DPM role - he is universally disliked apart from his own province.

  8. One wonders on what Aek bases his insight views of the middle Class and the Elite. And how does he define "middle class" or "elite"?

    Idle blabber with anecdotal knowledge.

I disagree, I think he is spot on, the culture of inherited privilege in very much a function of Thai society. Stemming from its feudal past (which is barely 100 years ago) the elite or wealthy could basically do what they liked as they had all the power.

The peasant class had no rights at all. Even today, one only has to watch the interaction between the wealthy elite and poor country people to see how things have changed very little.

Rich people in Thailand think they can do what they like, can buy off policemen and politicians, get special treatment in the government bureaucratic system by paying bribes (and expecting it) and generally behaving as if they deserve these privileges.

It is their culture, this is the way things have always been and a short history of Western values will not change things here any time soon.

And what about the "middle class"? A generation or two ago, these people would have been defined as peasants.

    It's all just stereo-types.

The "elite" and "middle-class" includes just the rich and better off in Bangkok, ignoring all the well off people in the other big cities and country areas.

From my experience, the middle class is difficult to define because that would include self made business people who have benefited from the growth in the economy over the past thirty years, but the largest sector has been the explosion in government paid workers, most of whom are university "graduates". These most definitely consider themselves as middle class even though most are struggling on their salaries. But the attitude of this group I would describe as elitist, the university system here seems to give them a sense of superiority over their more uneducated compatriots.

I have had to deal with the large government departments for many years now and I find that many of the bureaucrats are arrogant about their status, resent having to perform to any outside (i.e. farung) performance indicators, spend most of their time in their pecking order office politics (sucking up to the big boss and giving their underlings a hard time) and generally doing as little as possible.

One thing is for sure, they have a superiority complex about where they stand in the Thai class system and look down on the country folk who didn't have the benefit of higher education.

very true - hence the backlash - it's surprising how many posters here support this elite system. It's been my experience that 90% of farang I meet are more 'yellow' then 'red' - why is that? nothing to do with comprehension I'm convinced - but more to do with being raised and making their living in countries with wealth. More a lack of empathy? a resistance to support the oppressed? interesting...

  9. Lively debate and discourse ....

I guess I could just compliment everyone that, like you, has shown some tolerance of people that are different ... but dam_n .. that would simply be boring. Challenging people's preconceptions (including mine) is a good thing. It stimulates independent thought and some introspective glances into the self ....

I live in Thailand. This is an expat-forum where the majority of readers aren't actually expats or even in Thailand ...There are people coming here from all over and some have never even considered any of these issues before. Do I care one whit if they change their views in any direction? Nope.

now ... If I were writing this in Thai for Thai News ... or in English for the BKK Post ... I would take a different approach entirely! I am not doing that though, because I am writing it for my own pleasure and edification.

    Fair enough response and motivation.

I like lively debate too but I think sometimes it just feels like you deliver an under the belt blow when you insinuate others are bigots or prejudice who believe in equal rights (in their mind) but don't rise to the level of your mind's view of equality for gays. It does make it more lively but just seems a bit unfair and takes it more to a personal level of criticism into each other's view as opposed to debating the topic.

    Edit:

"Assuming" you are gay ... would you share some of your own experiences of being treated unfairly in Thailand? Completely understand if you would prefer not to but just am curious to know first hand the level of intolerance here. I see the jokes and characters on television but at the same time it appears the vast majority of people could care less about ones sexual preference. Then again, I am not gay and don't experience it first hand.

    Please note post 181 :)

In Thailand? I am a Director of a Thai company ... openly gay .... BF comes up often ... the ONLY negative responses to me being gay have been from farang. (A Thai couple sneered at my BF once in HuaHin which pissed me off ... the sneer was an assumption that this 25y/o Thai with the 39y/o farang was a hooker ... it really wasn't a gay thing I think, I walked up to them (much to their embarrassment) and gave them one each of our business cards, asked them to call if they needed the services of either of us, smiled, and walked off :) They were quite puzzled and my BF was mortified at first and then laughing his ass off later!

Other than that, one hotel gave us a hard time when I checked in ... arriving from one city .. and he checked in 1/2 hour later arriving from BKK. I had booked the room as a double in his name and they still gave him a hard time. He called me and I brought my bag down and we left and went to a nicer place. The only other thing I can think of is that his name is assuredly a guy's name .... but when I bought tickets to KPG the woman booking agent kept making it the female variant closest to his name (repeatedly!) and I eventually had to say "my bf is a man" (bf in Thai is gender neutral)

Post 181? which is why I defend your right to hold different beliefs than mine instead of showing animosity

This is just not true - you show bitterness and animosity in just about every post - most of us can see it - you evidently cannot
