  2. Of unknown origin, House Of The Rising Sun tells of a person's life gone wrong in the city of New Orleans. Appalachian artists Clarence "Tom" Ashley and Gwen Foster were the first who recorded it on September 6, '33.
  3. The Animals with House Of The Rising Sun recorded on 18 May '64 off of their '64 self-titled debut LP.
  4. Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie first wrote and recorded When The Levee Breaks in '29. The lyrics reflect experiences during the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927, the most destructive river flood in the history of the United States, with 27,000 square miles (70,000 km2) inundated in depths of up to 30 feet (9 m) over the course of several months in early 1927. Nice slide show for this tune.

  9. Seatrain was also well known for their outstanding rendition of the classic bluegrass number, Orange Blossom Special, written by Ervin T. Rouse in '38.
  10. Peter Rowan was lead singer and guitarist for Seatrain in the early 70's. Creepin' Midnight was a sweet number off of their '70 Seatrain album.

  13. Sweet Home Chicago recorded on November 23, '36 in Room 414 of the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio, Texas, and released in August '37 by Robert Johnson.

  15. In '68, Taj Mahal recorded a popular blues rock adaptation of the song with a prominent slide guitar part by Jesse Ed Davis. His rendition inspired a recording by the Allman Brothers Band, which is ranked number nine on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time."
