  1. This one breaks into the 90's but it's a good tune. Concrete Blonde with the title track off of their '93 Mexican Moon LP. I look up at the sky I am tired and dry Uno Tecate and lime Thinking of you Underneath the Mexican moonlight Thinking of you Underneath the Mexican moon
  2. ZZ Top with Mexican Blackbird off of their '75 Fandango LP. If you're down in Acuna and you ain't up to being alone don't spend all your money on just any honey that's grown. Go find the Mexican blackbird and send all your troubles back home. They all call her her "puta" 'cause no one really knows her name. She works the cantina, dancin' and a-lovin's her trade. Her mama was Mez'can and her daddy was the ace of spades. Oh, let's drive that old Chrysler down to Mexico, boy. Said, keep your hands on the wheel there. Oh, it sure is fine, ain't it? Now, ya got it! Hand me another one of them brews from back there. Oh, this is gonna be so good. Mm, she's hot as a pepper but smooth as a Mexican brew. So head for the border and put in an order or two. The wings of the blackbird will spread like an eagle for you. Oh, one more time, can you roll me another Bull Durham, please? Can't you do it with one hand, boy?
  3. Howlin' Wolf with Killing Floor off of his '72 Chester Burnett A.K.A. Howlin' Wolf LP. I shoulda quit you A long time ago I shoulda quit you, babe A long time ago I shoulda quit you pretty mama And went on to Mexico

  5. AC/DC with Riff Raff off of their '78 live LP, If You Want Blood You've Got It. AC/DC is, for the greater part, too much noise for me. I do like this track since it mainly features Angus Young's masterful guitar work rather than screamin' meemies vocals. See it on the television every day Hear it on the radio It ain’t humid but it sure is hot Down in Mexico
  6. Steely Dan with My Old School off of their '73 Countdown To Ecstasy LP. Well I hear the whistle but I can’t go I’m gonna take her down to Mexico She said oh no Guadalajara won’t do
  7. Simon & Garfunkel with The Only Living Boy in New York off of their final album released in '70, Bridge Over Troubled Water. Simon & Garfunkel take a much more poetic turn on the concept of going down to Mexico. During the recording of their fifth and final album, Bridge over Troubled Water, Art Garfunkel bailed out of the sessions to act in the film Catch-22, which was filmed in Mexico. Left alone to finish the album in New York, Paul Simon wrote this gorgeously heartbreaking vignette about the end of a friendship. Tom, get your plane right on time I know your part’ll go fine Fly down to Mexico Da-n-da-da-n-da-n-da-da and here I am The only living boy in New York
  8. Alice Cooper with Raped And Freezin’ off of his '73 Billion dollar Babies LP. I can confirm there's TV member who went to high school with Cooper in Arizona. Myself? Never cared for Alice. Felt like I was hit by a diesel or a Greyhound bus She was no baby-sitter “Get up, sugar, never thought you’d be a quitter” I opened the back door, she was greedy I ran through the desert, she was chasin’ No time to get dressed, so I was naked, stranded in Chihuahua Alone raped and freezing Alone cold and sneezing Alone down in Mexico Alone
  9. Christopher Cross with Ride Like The Wind off of his '79 self-titled debut. And I’ve got such a long way to go (such a long way to go) To make it to the border of Mexico So I’ll ride like the wind Ride like the wind
  10. Little Feat with Willin' off of their '70 Sailin' Shoes LP. Smuggled some smokes and folks from Mexico Baked by the sun, every time I go to Mexico And I’m still And I been from Tuscon to Tucumcari, Tehachapi to Tonapah Driven every kind of rig that’s ever been made Driven the back roads, so I wouldn’t get weighed And if you give me … weed, whites, and wine And you show me a sign I’ll be willin’ To be movin’
  11. Paul and Linda McCartney Back Seat Of My Car of of their '71 Ram LP. The laser lights are pretty We may end up in Mexico City But listen to her daddy’s song Making love is wrong Ooh, we’re just busy riding Sitting in the back seat of my car
  12. Fleetwood Mac with Hypnotized off of their '73 Mystery To Me LP. They say there’s a place down in Mexico Where a man can fly over mountains and hills And he don’t need an airplane or some kind of engine And he never will Now you know it’s a meaningless question To ask if those stories are right ‘Cause what matters most is the feeling You get when you’re hypnotized
  13. ZZ Top with El Diablo off of their '76 Tejas LP. Did you ever hear the story that happened not long ago 'bout the man with a tan: el diablo de Mexico?
  14. ZZ Top with Goin’ Down To Mexico off of their '71 ZZ Top's First Album LP. I was on my way down to Mexico There was trouble on the rise It was nothing more than I’d left behind Which was much to my surprise I turned around and lit a cigarette Wiped the dust off of my boots When up ahead I saw the crowd I knew it was no use
  15. Patsy Cline with South Of The Border (Down Mexico Way), recorded on 25 Aug. '61, off of her '61 Showcase album. South of the border, down Mexico way That’s where they fell in love When stars above Came out to play And now as they wander, their thoughts ever stray South of the border, down Mexico way
  16. This is most definitely a favourite of mine. Thin Lizzy with The Cowboy Song off of their '76 Jailbreak LP. I was took in Texas, I did not know her name Lord, those southern girls all seem the same Down below the border, a town in Mexico I set out with the rodeo Roll me over and turn me around Let me keep spinning ’til I hit the ground Roll me over and let me go Riding free with the buffalo
  17. Grand Funk Railroad with Pass it Around off of their '76 Frank Zappa produced album 'Good Singin, Good Playin'. I wish I had a place to stay in L.A. for a week or so I feel like bein’ jive, hangin’ out, maybe go to Mexico ‘Cause dreamin’, baby, that’s the way I want to be Just want to sit in a tree, sail out to sea, live like some fantasy, ahh baby
  18. The LA garage rock band, The Leaves, with the first commercially successful recorded version of Hey Joe in '65. This is the re-recorded version which became the title track off of their '66 album.
  19. The Jimi Hendrix Experience with their first single, the '62 Billy Roberts penned tune Hey Joe, released in Oct. '66. Hey Joe, I said where you goin' to run to now, where you, where you gonna go? Well, dig it! I'm goin' way down south, way down south way down south to Mexico way! Alright! I'm goin' way down south way down where I can be free! Ain't no one gonna find me babe!
  20. Meat Puppets with Plateau off of their '84 II album. Many hands began to scan around for the next plateau Some said it was Greenland, and some say Mexico Others decided it was nowhere except for where they stood But those were all just guesses Wouldn’t help you if they could
  21. The Byrds with an alternate version of Tulsa County from their classic '69 Ballad Of Easy Rider LP. My nights have been lonely since I’ve been in Tulsa County And I really don’t know what I’m gonna do. I just might take a trip somewhere along the southern border ‘Cause I know I’ve gotta get away from you. I don’t know – just where I’ll go I believe I’ll ride it down to Mexico Down to Mexico
  22. Leadbelly with Boll Weevil. Found on the '69 Early Leadbelly 1935 - 1940 album. Well the boll weevil and the little black bug Come from a-Mexico they say Came all the way to Texas Just a-lookin’ for a place to stay Just a-lookin’ for a home, just a-lookin’ for a home
  23. I'm not rating any of the above music . . . it's up to one's personal tastes so can't be rated by any one individual. But I do have my favourites. Emmylou with Pancho And Lefty off of her absolutely classic and timeless '77 Luxury Liner album. And each time I bring up an Emmylou number I'm compelled to admit that I think she's one of the most beautiful women in the world eva. Pancho was a bandit, boys His horse was fast as polished steel He wore his gun outside his pants For all the honest world to feel Pancho met his match, you know In the deserts down in Mexico And nobody heard his dying words Oh, that's the way it goes
  24. The Monkees with What Am I Doing Hanging ‘Round? off of their '67 Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. LP. Just a loud mouth Yankee I went down to Mexico. I didn't have much time to spend, about a week or so. There I lightly took advantage of a girl who loved me so. But I found myself a-thinkin' when the time had come to go...
  25. James Taylor with Mexico off of his '75 Gorilla LP. Oh, Mexico It sounds so simple I just got to go The sun's so hot I forgot to go home Guess I'll have to go now
