  1. The most obnoxious I have come across are the old Brits playing the old colonial and for some reason Thailand has plenty of them, the loudest have got to be the colonial cousins from the other side of the pond

The old Colonials! Jeez Soutpeel, how long have you been in Thailand?

I doubt you even know that the British were Colonised for 900 years before they even Colonised one single Country! I will start you off with learning some History:

England Colonised by the Romans for:400 years. England Colonised for 267 years by the Vikings, England Colonised by the Saxons xxx years,Do look up the following:...........

"Dane Gold", Marauding Killers Rapists and Pillagers, and destroyers of villages and Towns in England for 100 years! (until they did one trip too many in their Gold Plundering long boats)and were welcomed by the slaughter committee, which ensured they never returned home, and there people never came back to continue their Atrocities, Look it up it's fascinating!

NB: Further reading on Colonialists: Spain....France.....Portugal......Holland.......etc

England has always given up their Colonised Countries on request, and has handed it back to the rightful people, and surprisingly there are some

that have opted to stay British! Recently the Falkland Islands, and Gibralta .

France has only given up their Colonisation of Lao in the mid fifties, and are clinging on to previous ill gotten French Colonised Countries, I could go on...............

And BTW what Nationality are you!!!

I think you need a history lesson yourself.

There was no such country as England when the Romans invaded the island of Britain.

There was no England when the Saxons invaded.

There was no England when the Vikings invaded.

England didn't come into existence until 927 AD.

England always giving up their colonies on request? Citizens from the USA might disagree with you there as would the Indians.

    Look it up, it's fascinating.

"England always giving up their colonies on request? Citizens from the USA might disagree with you there as would the Indians"

I was talking broadly of modern times.

The convenience with which Brits choose to shield themselves from their politically disastrous past and its direct bearing on events of the day is always humorous... Speaking in broadly general historic terms of course

Other than that, Aussies loudest as far as white faces go.

  2. Probably not asking that right in the heading, but essentially, curious about this

My wife lives in US full-time and she is Thai. I go back and forth. Is there some service similar to the Skype In numbers where you can get a number that 'looks' Thai, but goes through a VOIP to reach you anywhere in the world?

It would be simpler than trying to keep a Thai SIM card active over here all the time, and I would think, less expensive as well.

    Thanks

  3. Is Manhatan Tong Barbershop on Suk Soi8 gone? Has it relocated? if so, where?

Getting ready to come into town and for some reason decided to look it up. I found a thread that says it may not be there any longer but nothing more than that about it.

I hope it is around somewhere. Great folks, great service. If not, I'll have to find some place similar, but that has to be a dying breed.

  4. Ah, no... he's making a series of shorts around the world in general.... its about comparative poverty, not political leanings.... but choose your own poison I guess...

Far be it from me to not let a Thai Visa member jump to conclusions without the least bit of real information.

Besides, you guys seem to have the Thai bashing down pretty well already.

  5. Curious if there are any slum areas in Bangkok with tall buildings. I'm not there at present and someone was asking regarding a documentary project they want to do. Seems they know about the typical canal side areas and wanted to find more of stacked like sardines area too. I said I could not recall anything over 4-5 stories, but that I would ask around.

I thought perhaps Ramkhamhaeng, but not sure

    Thanks

  7. Does Bangkok have good options of this nature? We might, and I do mean, might, be looking at a 6-9 month space and no doubt it will be bare. We would need to kit it out with furniture, equipment, phones, internet access, etc.

Am I just dreaming about getting this done without pulling my hair out?

Executive offices aren't really an option, as we need to be able to have instant access to meeting rooms, so not sure how else to look at this.

  8. Tomatoes. Joy, joy. My entire childhood was hoofing it down a tomato row, or so it seemed at the time.

Sun, yep, they love sun, but the heart of the summer is tough on them.

Certainly use shade clothe when you go from sowing tray to transplant tray until the root system as assimilated to the new soil, then they are relatively okay in direct sun during the heat of the day, but until you are ready to transplant to the field, you can somewhat keep them shaded. But at least 3-4 days minimum before you transplant (this all assume fields and larger volume where cover is not pratical) then you'll need to leave them out to toughen up. Watch where the base of the plant starts to turn purple.

We grow a variety called Mountain Spring, but for the hard part of the summer, they don't thrive the same and we switch over to Arkansas Traveler or Homesteads as well as the hybrids.

We generally start up tomatoes in February in the greenhouse and then sow more every 4 weeks for at least a total of 3 crops through the summer.

  9. Well, she is new to Thailand and she could not possibly find where she needs to go.

I presume this is the Pattaya forum, so I assume this is a local question as the driver would be taking her to Bangkok and bringing her back home at the end of the trip.

I guess I was hoping someone there had reliable information about a service they were happy with or had experience with, but perhaps that was assuming too much.
