  1. so what?  The Sinovac seems to be about the worst vaccine.  Even the Thais do no seem to want to run and get it.  and 2000 a day is only 60000 a month.  Ten months would only be 600,000.  A fraction of what is needed to be of much use.  And this is just for the local Bangkok area I think.  So they need some bigger logistics to reach the rest of the country

  2. so you were simply traveling domestically and they made you quarantine?  I know some provinces had such policies to enter before but I have seen people posting on Youtub recently that have been driving up that way.  Was it really because you came from Bangkok or just because BKK

For the flights you can simply do short check on any flight booking websites, I did it for you: Qatar (LA-Doha-Phuket) 1-way $520.

You can stay in any ASH+ hotel in Phuket, there are hundreds of them to choose across entire island, area of your choice:

Thanks but I would not fly from the west coast of the USA more than half way around the world in the other direction, and I would not go through any Middle Eastern countries.

So are we free to choose any flights that are commercially available or must we use some flights that are specified by Thailand?

It just once again shows complete and utter ignorance on the subject in addition to simply not knowing what to do to stop the spread .

will say it again, close down the <deleted> markets , it is the source of spread . People rubbing shoulders , breathing into each other’s faces, hardly any tracking or records.

    and stop all interprovincial travel.

how hard is it to understand

That will only slow the spread a bit, it will not Stop the spread.  In the end the same number of people will contract the virus.  Those that are weak, old, overweight, have some other symptoms or traits may suffer, just as in any severe flu season.  It is time to get over this and just open things up.  Either mandate vaccines just as things like Polio, Small pox, measles, eTuberculosis, etc. or get on with things.  You will kill or harm more people with continued shutdowns than the virus will by itself.  People are not getting medical care, people are not paying for health insurance since they are out of work (very common in the USA at the moment), mental stress, family break ups, etc.

  5. Of course they are involving private properties.  Now the chances increase for abuse and payoffs, and fake bad test results that then force foreigners into these places, as well as Thais.  And I would not discount persecution and harassment of some "undesirables" , etc..  And of course some private places offered up their services.

I remember reading on Richard Barrow's Twitter that if cases in Phuket get above 70 the whole sandbox thing will be cancelled. Is that true or another "fact" that he pulled out of his backside?

Edit: I just googled it and according to the Bangkok Post, the whole thing may be scrapped if cases reach 90 per week in Phuket. With the ineffectiveness of Sinovac and the spread of the Delta variant, it doesn't seem that this sandbox thing is going to last long.

The delta variant and other soon to happen mutations will probably make current vaccines even less effective. In flu seasons, the officials have to guess in advance what the strains will be as they then need time to mass produce the products.  And even then, the flu vaccines are barely 40 % effective.  So continuing all these lockdowns and things are most likely just a waste of time and effort

In some countries in the West you now need to pay bank to keep money in the account. Stop complaining.

years ago I opened a savings account at Colonial in Florida.  It was not my primary bank but just one I wanted to open as an additional resource in case I needed it.  I deposited 600 USD.  Thought nothing of it.  six months later I got some notice about fees being charged for an inactive account and they had automatically taken something like $35 out!  I called them and was bemused and stunned by their attitude.  If I am not using the account, how can it be costing them money?  The account earned at the time a few percent interest so that was going to be fine with me.   Second, this is tantamount to what many Swiss banks did during after ww2.  Inactive accounts were drained as customers were unable to make contact with the banks for various reasons.

I told the bank I would complain to every possible authority if my money was not returned and my account canceled.  It was.  So much for what in the past was putting money away and just leaving it.

  8. so how does one get from Los Angeles California to Phuket?  What airlines would you schedule or try to schedule?  What cities if you can't fly into BKK and then fly on to Phuket?  If the Phuket sandbox is cheaper than the ASQ then I would be OK going the Phuket sandbox route.  I been there before and did like Karon beach, although I might try Kamala if that is available.  Where do you have to stay in Phuket?  Only the Patong area or can it be any place in Phuket that has ASH+ or whatever hotels?

  9. I preferred Carre 4 when it was Carre 4.  It carried different things and brands than the Big Cs.  But the Pattaya Klang store is ok.  The Marina Big C over near what used to be the Dolphin Roundabout has a great ground floor barbecue place, meat and veggies you cook at your table.  The barbecue sauce they use is still one of my favorites

  10. Having been through some financial problems myself, I do suggest you do two things:

    1. Get a bank ATM or Debit card. They usually have a Visa or Mastercard logo and are accepted like a credit card on most routine transactions.

    2. Get a secured Credit card. There are numerous ones you can get. Doesn't matter how bad your credit is or was. You send them money, they put it on deposit and give you a card that is exactly like a credit card and your credit limit is usually the amount you put on depoist, and sometimes more. It is a credit card.

I have used a Secured card for years, and just recently got an unsecured card and things are fine.

I was just in Thailand in September, and I am going back in December for two weeks. I do plan to live abroad in the not too distant future and have been offered some decent teaching jobs for an OK pay.

This is a very good forum.
