  1. There are not many drivers threatening tourists, but those who are, are creating an enormous problem and affecting the image of all taxi drivers in Phuket. Police need to set an example, so they understand we are serious, Governor Maitri said.

Really - he needs to get out and about some more. See the real world.

How can he see the real world and meet the real people in daily situations when everywhere he goes he does it with 20 armed guards ?

  2. Once again, who would believe that tourism only contributes 6% to the Thai GDP? It's almost the only thing they talk about!

Anyway, it's not over. They will call an election, Reds will win again - how could they not with the vast majority of the country's support? Then what? Suthep standing on stage again calling for a coup?

New foreign investment will be down as a result, QE in the US tapering off so foreign money already invested will continue to be pulled out, the damage to the economy from the rice scam, water scam, etc will be more acute, the housing market will continue to freeze up, tourism will certainly be down if there is another coup -- this time it will be bloody.

In other words, Thailand will be cheap and chaotic again!

I've got to agree about tourism "only being 6%" if every day one body or another is moaning about the loss of tourists and their baht. If it was only 6%, it would not be headline worthy day in and day out.

I think it was 6% for 25 years ago. It is around 25%.

Lots of black money and not paying tax in tourism business and it is little bit difficult for Thai authorities to admit that they are depended on the tourism.

According to William E Heinecke the chairman of the Minor international group, tourism and service industries now account for 25 per cent of the country's GDP.

Heineckes word is more trustworthy than any mr. Big shot Thai minister.

What would Chang mai, Pattaya, Koh Samui, Phuket, Krabi and Hua hin be without all the foreign tourism?

  3. I agree, foreigners must not take part in it and if they do then my question to them is, what will their government do if Thais or foreigners in their country participate in such protests or mob against the power.

Thais and other foreigners in my country (Sweden) praticipate in protests and they are allowed to speak up.

We (Swedish people) don´t call the foreigners guest when they have been there for 10 years.

Maybe you meant countries like Afghanistan, Irak, Syria and Somalia when you said " their country". In those countries foreigners would never participate in protests.

    Why?

Because they would be kidnapped and beheaded.

  4. Colombians, Mexican arrested in Bangkok for Phuket ATM robbery

    Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- Three men suspected of robbing a Patong ATM last Tuesday were apprehended in Bangkok yesterday and returned to Phuket last night.

Phuket Police and fellow officers from the central Bangkok district of Phayathai worked together to arrest the men, who are accused of using a blowtorch to steal almost 300,000 baht from a Thanachart ATM.

Mexican Yesid Alexander Ledesma Gutierrez, 50, and Columbians Luis Fernando Guarin Suta, 44, and Carlos Arturo Amariles Marin, 57, were taken into custody in a rented room in Ratchathewi District in Bangkok at about 12:30pm.

Phuket Police had tracked the men by investigating stores in Phuket that sold the equipment, namely a gas canister and gloves, that had been abandoned at the crime scene (story here).

Viewing CCTV images at the Thai Watsadu store in Thalang, officers found what they were looking for – images of two foreign men making purchases, as well as images of the car they were driving, a Red Suzuki Swift. They obtained arrest warrants for the unnamed men and notified all police divisions in Phuket to help in the search.

“They left Phuket and drove to Ao Nang in Krabi not more than three hours after they robbed the ATM,” said Phuket Provincial Police Commander Ong-art Phiwruangnont.

“On Saturday, we were informed that they were in Bangkok. At that point, we asked the Phayathai Police to help a Patong Police team arrest them,” Maj Gen Ong-art said.

The men were apprehended shortly after midday and returned to Phuket, where they arrived at about 10pm last night.

Police declined to reveal how the suspects were located in Bangkok.

“That is confidential police information,” said Phuket Provincial Deputy Commander Arun Kaewwatee. “If we reveal that, other criminals may learn how to avoid police detection.”

    Confidential Police information??? cheesy.gif

When Police knew which car the three musketeers had rented, they just needed to check who rent the car and after that check with immigration where they stayed.

  5. There are 7 family members selling the daily items in a shop nearby where I live. One graduate of a high school and one studied IT at an university. They work in the shop for 4 years now. None of them is capable to tell you the price of a pack of cigarettes (66 baht) and a can of Leo beer (35 baht) without a calculator. I have never seen any of them reading a newspaper. When it comes to "science" - they turn off the fridges over night to save electricity...

Would that qualify them to announce another hub?

  6. This is the type of tourists we don't want. They seem to assume that all Thai women walking along Walking Street are prostitutes.

I don't consider m myself a tourist, but I'd assume that most Thai girl/women in this area are prostitutes.Or are we talking about a different walking street in another country now?

I agree. when i go out with my thai wife and her friends no one want to visit any disco around walking street. I asked them why???

They all say: only prostitutes would go to walking street. and they are Thai.

They maybe exaggerate but they are thai and they know Thai people better .

  8. If you are looking for 9% return/year you maybe should look at places like samui. There are already to many condos for rent in Pattaya which make it very difficult to get 9% net return/year

I bought a condo offplan in Samui for 5 years ago for 3 M Baht. I invested 200 000 more on decor and did some changes to make the condo look better than the average condo in same building. The occupancy rate has been 90% / year while most of the condos in same building 2-3 months/ year.

    Why? Because of the interior.

    Calculation:

    12x 30000 x 90%= 324000 baht/ year

    324000-52000 (maintenance)= 272000 baht/ year

    272000/3200000= 8,5 % return/ year

    Ok thanks and noted..

I already noticed that in Bangkok most buyers are thais and often they dont buy for rental returns but more as a long term investment for their money. Also they buy units/condos for them selfs or family members to live in.

The rental returns in Bangkok are already lower then in Pattaya that why i dont look much in Bangkok.

Does anyone know cities in Thailand with better rental returns then in Pattaya ?

  9. What is disturbing with this picture is that the Social Development and Human Security Minister Pavanee is sitting next to murderer to give her morale boost.

Mor Nim’s mother says she alone masterminding the shooting of son-in-law

    11-11-2013-2-08-16-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

Mother of Mor Nim says she alone is the mastermind in the shooting of the former national sharpshooter Chakkrit Panichpatikam in October 19.

Surangka Nualchinda, the mother of Dr Nithivadi Phucharoenyos, alias Mor Nim, and also mother in-law of the killed sharpshooter, admitted after she and her daughter turned themselves in to the metropolitan police commissioner today at the Metropolitan Police Bureau Headquarters to face alleged murder conspiracy charge.

Social Development and Human Security Minister Pavanee Hongsakul was also present to give morale boost to Mor Nim.

She told an army of media representatives waiting for their appearance before noon today that what she had done was that she could no longer put up with the behavior of her son-in-law who throughout the past six years had been intimidating and assaulting her daughter.

She said that although she had given several chances for Chakkrit to rehabilitate himself after being freed from the military prison, he again continued to assault her daughter.

She said Chakkrit even threatened to kill her if her daughter chose to abandon him to live with her.

She said decision to get rid of him from her daughter’s life was her own idea without any knowledge of Mor Nim.

She said Mor Nim did not know or had part in hiring a gunman to shoot him, adding that everything which she had done was to protect her daughter and the love she had towards her daughter.

Meanwhile Mor Nnm, in tearful eyes and trembling voice, also insisted that she never committed adultery as was accused by her deceased husband and never wanted to grab her husband’s assets as reported in some papers.

She also said that only knew of the murder plot from her mother a few days ago but was ready to face the consequences and received legal penalty on behalf of her mother.

She said that throughout the past six years, her mother was in grief and cried all the time and that she now realized of how much love a mother has shown to her daughter.

She also told all males who have married they should refrain from using violent mean against the family and this would could lead to tragic end like her family.

Both Mor Nim and mother were later escorted to Minburi police station for interrogation.

The police are still hunting for the lawyer known as Tanai Id and the motorcycle rider who drove the gunman to shoot Chakkrit as both are still at large. A 100,000 baht reward has been offered to information that could lead to the driver’s arrest.

  10. Do Thai people ever fight one on one?

They love ganging up on people 5 6 7 on 1

    Fricken animals

Sounds like the tourists had to pay for damages to items that were

broken by their heads as the items were swung at them

    Thai justice ...

More proof that 99% of taxi drives in Thailand are the scum of the earth

    Only in muay Thai fights.

Feel bad for the tourists. What a nice honeymoon. Remember that Thais don't consider them farang. They are other terms like kak kaow or kak dum. Who they dislike more than blonde hair blue eyed types. I have to admit some of them are racist. Please don't post some BS chart rating Thailand as most racist or violent.

Sent from my GT-I9500 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Farang, kak kaow or kak dum. It doesn´t matter.

We are all foreigner and most of the Thai people stand us only for the money we spend here.

I understand you are thai and you don´t like to hear the truth but the truth is the truth.

Have a nice day Khun kon Thai
