  1. I received a 2.5 kg parcel that was sent from my brothers home in Bendigo Vic to my house which is 100 km nth of Ubon Ratchathani in 5 days. It was stamped in the afternoon of a Monday and I received it at home on Saturday afternoon.

This is the third time that I have received parcel ranging from small to the present one and all delivered in under a week.

    Hope that helps

  2. Joining a sports club sounds good but living out in the sticks and only possessing a small motorbike does make it a bit difficult to find one in the vicinity. The closes major town being about 70 ks away. I was only trying to find out if someone else encountered the same problem as me and had found a solution. I dont mind watching a little bit of soccer but with 6 sport channels on UBC I would have thought that there would have been a greater range of sport other than soccer to be watched.

I shall just keep on monitoring this forum to see if someone can help me with my problem.

  3. I have had UBC connected at my house for about 2 1/2 months and am at the end of my tether regarding choices of watchable sport. I am sick of seeing Boring F****ing soccer on all 6 of the sport channels. Surely there are other sports that appeal to the viewing public. How do I get to see some cricket now and aussie rules and rugby league in winter.

Any suggestions on watching some decent sport.

  5. Thank you one and all for the responses and valuable information that was presented. I shall get myself down to the Oz embassy and start the ball rolling. As a relatively newcomer to Thailand, I have found this website and forum system invaluable to my transition to the good life over here.

Once again thanks to everyone involved

  6. I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I live in Ubon province and am planning to marry the little lady in the next month or so. I was informed by my prospective brother-in-law that because a farang is involved (namely me) that the arrangements for the marriage certificate needs to be done in Bangkok instead of the "Town Hall" equivilant in the nearest major town.

Has anybody encountered this before and if so please post some information here to enlighten me. Eagerly awaiting some responses.

  7. I have just gone thru the same process as you. You can get an extension at any of the immigration places in thailand without leaving the country. The cost is 1900 baht. You will need to bring 2 passport photos with you. That is no prob to get an extension. They will tell you to go out of the country when that extension is up to get a new visa. I myself am going to savannakhet in laos to get my new visa. Going thru this forum I have been informed that they will be reluctant to give a new tourist visa if you already have several this year. This was confirmed yesterday when I rang the consulate in savannakhet. If you are on your first or second you should have no worries.

    Hope this helps

  8. hi, you don't need to go where, just take the ferry from mukdahan, the costs of the ferry ride is 50baht, then straight to savannnakhet, when you reach lao you will just get the visa there in their immigration, you have to pay 1500baht though, i think you're allowed to stay up to 15 days in there.

I thought savannakhet was in Laos so I would need a visa prior to reaching the border. If what you say is correct that would make it very easy for me. I have read that the Thai embassy in Laos is getting very strict, is this the case for the consulate in Savannakhet or should I have little trouble getting my 60 day tourist visa

savannakhet is in lao, they have consulate there, you can even walk to the consul from the ferry port or you pay 20 baht for the tuktuk ride. no trouble for tourist 60 days visa, if you catch the 9:30 ferry ride you will be in savannakhet around 9:45 am then go to the consul, you have to wait up to 3 pm though before you can get your passport and your visa no need to stay over night unless they have meeting of something but usually by 3 pm you can get it already. its better than vienttiane and their people are much much more nicer, i got all my visas there also 3 tourist and 2 non immig b :o .... good luck!

Thanks for the info. I will give it a go next week

  9. My GF and her family have just started a rubber plantation near khemmarat. We buy the trees for 5 baht plus transport costs from Surat thani. The time between planting and producing rubber is about 6 years. best time to plant is at the start of the wet season. Last week there was a seminar in Khemmarat on rubber producing and 250 people turned up for it so I think it is a growing industry in this area. Try the dept of agriculture for more info

  10. G'day all,

My name is Carl and am an ex-aussie digger who has retired after 20 years and now living up in Ubon. Just wondering if there are others in thailand doing the same thing. Would love to catch up with some ex AJ's and have a yarn.

  13. Previously I requested info to do visa run to Vientianne. As I only live 80km from Mukdahan I was considering doing the border hop over to Suvannakhet. Is this a viable option to get a new tourist visa. I realise that I need a visa to enter Laos. Can this be obtained locally or do I need to go to Bangkok.

    Thanks for any help
