  1. I am gonna go on a bike ride through Isaan. I wish to know where there will be hotels with wireless internet available. Though not possible, I strongly prefer a reliable connection.

I plan to stop for sure in Korat and Loei. Then I consider Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Sri Sa Ket, Surin, Petchaboon.

    Thanks

  2. I am gonna do some traveling away from Thailand. I wanna store my furnitures and other personal stuff. Is there such culture for doing so in Thailand and how is it done?

I am in north Thailand, currently in Chiang rai, probably moving to chiang mai.

  3. Hello,

I am looking for a hotel with wireless internet to stay in Bangkok for a couple of days. Most important is the reliability of the internet connection. It must be instant. Fast not so important, but instant is the key word.

Also I want to stay in a quiet room. I expect this to be found for about 1,000 baht. As I know in the north of Thailand this usually costs 350-450 baht per night.

I would prefer to stay at the khao san road, but basicly anywhere would he ok.

    Thanks

  4. Yesterday I was coming from North Thailand towards Pattaya. I tried to avoid it, but I had to drive through the heavy bangkok traffic. I tried to follow the signs for Chonburi and before I knew of it I was at the express toll way. We were where we to pay the fee and it was easy to come out. So a police man came over and asked for my driving license, which he kept untill I had paid. I was told he would keep my driving license for a week, and I could pick up at the police station paying the full fee after a week. A fee of 2000 baht. So I asked for address for the police station and asked for receives and got no answer. Also I did not see any name sign on his uniform. I finally called a thai friend. He helped talking with the police man. We made a compromise. I really felt I only had followed the signs and done nothing wrong.

Later the same day I really tried to avoid the super express highway. But I ended up anyway. I followed the thai drivers on motorbikes and all of a sudden there werent any. I was stopped on the middle of the highway between chonburi and bangkok. This time for sure I was wrong, because I had entered already. So I asked how much the fine was and he started talking about being in prison for 1 week. We had a long discussion. Again I noticed the missing name sign on his uniform. Arent the police suposed to have this sign? He wanted to take me to the police station and I said, ok lets go. Nothing happened and he talked about 1 week in thai prison. Again I called my thai friend and he talked with him. An other compromise was made.

As for now I still got my driving license in my pocket :o

It is really hard being on a motorbike in Bangkok. You cant follow the signs and you are stuck in an instant traffic jam.

What is this. Is Bangkok crazy? Are there other places in Thailand that one needs to be aware when driving a motorbike?

    Thanks

  5. I will be in Pattaya for about 1 week. In the north Thailand we can be online from the hotel room from about 350 baht per day including everything paid. I expect Pattaya to be more expensive. Does anybody know about hotels with internet avalability from the room costing about 500-1000 baht?

    Thanks :o

  6. Any information of how it is?

How much should it be per squaremeter?

How much was the squaremeter price at the auctions last year?

Are there any more auctions coming up?

What is the general condition of the condo?

    Thanks :o

  7. Current situation seems to be that if you are flying into Bangkok from a long-haul destination with no proof of an onward ticket it is advisable to have a valid tourist or non imm visa in your passport otherwise you may be refused onto your flight, or made to purchase an onward ticket.

Just wondering if any of the local SE Asian airlines are also doing this. i.e. if you make a short trip from Bangkok to Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia etc. do you need an onward ticket to be allowed to board your return flight if you intend to enter Thailand with a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry (usually called VOA).

Have not seen any reports of any Asian airlines doing this myself but has anybody else had any problems?

I have been requested my onwards ticket many times. Also with in asia and with asian airline companies. I always had my papers right, so I dont know how it would be if not having the paper work.

  8. Plenty:

Floral, Twin Peaks, Nakornping, Rimping, Hillside 4 for starters.

Price per sq mtr? Say 30,000-40,000 and more for Twin Peaks and whatever the other one beside is called. Both are new others have been standing a while which ain't all bad.

There's plenty of debate on Hillside 4 a couple of weeks back if your new to town. Search will reveal all.

    Any url´s?

  9. Potter, thanks for the estimate (2000 baht) on the taxi from the CR airport to Chiang Khong via Chiang Saen. I can afford that. I'll be roughing it a bit after I get to Laos so I don't mind the minor splurge for some comfort and convenience right after I step off the plane.

    Thanks again.

The trip is less than 140 kilometers.

there are arguments to pay more than 1200 baht.

    * You dont know the guy

    * He will have to pick you up at the airport and if your airplane gets delayd you should probably tip him accordingly

    * You will need a stop in Chiang Saan for x amount time.

    Good Luck with your journey!

  10. I know a little bit, but still feel confused.

    Dont speak bad.

    Think good.

    No butterfly.

    No drugs or alcohol.

    1) What is the buddhist code exactly?

    2) How is it all incorporated to the thai society and thai values?

    Thanks :o

  11. Went on the road from Pai to Mae Hong Son last year. It had been damaged from the heavy rainfalls last year. How is the condition of the road? No problem with a chobber? Has it been renovated since then?

    Thanks :o

  12. If can not live together before marriage, it is a reason to break up.

This is where you are actually putting the pressure on the girl. If you are really serious, why not ask her parents if you both can live together before you both decided to tie the knot?

I asked already. The answer was if I did like that, I could do it with a girl who worked in a restaurent.

  13. Potter,

Thanks for the tip about organizing in advance some private transportation directly from Chiang Rai airport to Chiang Khong, via Chiang Saen:

Do you, or anybody else on the Forum, happen to know a driver I could contact in advance?

    Thanks again.

    Focus

I always drive myself or my wife does. I dont know about any private taxis. I am out of town for a week. The taxi should not be that expensive. I would think 2000 should be about a fair price for both of you. Also remember the comfort you gain by this. You just arrive with all your heavy luggage to a forreign place and you will need to use the local transportation, which is both energy and time consuming. Pay the couple of thousand baht for a taxi. With a taxi you can do it all in one day!

  14. I understand sex or living together before marriage is a very bad thing in Thailand. It is often seen as prostitution and disrespect of the parents. This would cause the whole family to lose face. Thais also believe marriage should come before sex. Us forreigners are somewhat different. We want to try to live together before making bigger commitments.

Now the case is this. The girl is from a conservative middle class family. Nobody in the family has disrespectful works. She has previously had a thai boyfriend for 5 years. All her family thinks she is virgin, but the truth is she lost her virginity many years ago.

    1) What does this mean in the thai culture?

    2) What will happen to the messenger who brings the news of lost virginity?

    3) Would all the family possible "ตี - Dtee" her and what does this exactly translates into?

    4) How should the message be brought:

    a. The girl herself bring the bad news

    b. The boyfriend be the person who informs the father/rest of family and what will happen if he does so?

    c. A respectful third person.

    d. Just ignore the case and marry before sex and living together.

    e. Other obtions?

    5) What do thais think of such a girl and what obtions does she have?

    6) There is somekind of nothern thai ritual she should make. Can anybody tell me more about this?

    7) Will the messenger be the person who will be fault of causing the social problems?

    8) Any other advice or things to consider?

Both are 28 years old. It is in nobodys intention to have anybody lose face. But the truth is bitter. The westerness parents do stand strong. If can not live together before marriage, it is a reason to break up.

    Thanks :o
