  1. There is no nightlife in Phayao other than eating stalls. Phayao has a very large lake "Kwan Phayao". I didn't see any fishing but there should be some. Phayao has Thailands best Khao Soy that I think is better than in Bangkok. Good coffee is hard to find. I like the Phayao Northern Lake Hotel (054 411 123) which is a short walk from the bus station and about the center of town.

  2. Have people forgotten the Democratic government didn't break. The law the red shirts did. The Democratic government was responsible for enforcing the law. The read ones responsible for the deaths were the red shirts. Anyone who thinks differently probably was not in Thailand at the time and was watching Fox news. The protests were anything but peaceful except for the poor deluded farm people who were used. Peaceful protesters don't close down major intersections, break windows and set buildings on fire or go charging into hospitals. Lets put the blame where it belongs. I still wonder who was financing the operation.

  3. The restaurant at the Poseidon is no longer operated by Casa Pascal but by a very friendly Dutch man. The restaurant is newly opened and new items are expected to be added to the menu. Last week meat was not included in the breakfast menu. Orange juice was extra. Coffee was unlimited but was cold. Omelets were overcooked so you should specify how you want it cooked. Service is very good. We had to ask them to turn down the disco music which they did. Oscar's was named after Oscar Wilde.

  4. For my 10 years experience with Boncafe, they have a good assistance service (they give sometimes also a spare machine if you are in business). SAECO machines are good. ASCASO I don't know.

The coffee? Beh, that's another matter....

I've had good service in Pattaya. Buy the fully automatic. There is nothing like pushing a button and getting a copy of coffee without any fuss. I own both the Saeco Vienna Plus and the Saeco Odea Giro Plus. The Vienna Plus has given less trouble.

  5. I have used Pattaya2U at TukCom. They have always given good service and I've been very pleased. Most employees have been there for quite a long time.

The service at Liberty Computers was expensive and they didn't get the job done and were defensive when I took it back. I took it to Pattaya2U and it was fixed within a day.

  6. Hi,

I will be retiring and moving to Bangkok in a few weeks. I was wondering if anyone has Blue Cross & Blue Shield health insurance from the US. I am planning on using Bangkok Hospital as they are listed as accepting this insurance. Can anyone tell me how the billing is done? Do they bill the insurance direct and bill you for any balance or do you have to pay and then file a claim with the insurance? Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

I'm retired with Blue Cross. I have had to pay the hospital bill in full and submit the claim to Blue Cross even though the hospital is listed as a participating hospital. I think their reasoning is that the payment turn around is very long and many patients may not be here to pay unpaid portions of the bill. Blue Cross does consider the lower deductible for participating hospitals.

It is best to ask the hospital but be sure you ask the right person and they understand.

  7. Sounds like View Talay 5. TT&T provides VOIP service with the Internet. TOT has phone lines (if they still have them). You should be able to get a regular phone line from TOT. You can add Internet service. CAT has Internet service but it is expensive. I checked with TT&T last week. They have Internet and VOIP service available or separate Internet with phone. Check with the TT&T office on Thepprasit Road.

  8. I just renewed my Thak drivers license in Bangkok and was required to watch a movie on Thai traffic laws. I was surprised to learn there is a fine for failing to stop at a crosswalk. As I recall it was 500 Baht. Surprise! Surprise!

Don't expect many to stop and don't walk out in front of a bus. If a car does stop watch out for the motorcycle coming around it.
