    6) Can I say something like "Pom chop khon diao le pak porn"? Would that roughly mean something like "I don't mind being on my own and relax"

"Chop" as you know means "like" and would be fine. If you want to give the sense of "not minding", perhaps you could say:

Pom mai kit maak arai taa ja chai way-laa pak-pawn yoo kon diao / ผมไม่คิดมากอะไรถ้าจะใช้เวลาพักผ่อนอยู่คนเดีย

"Pom mai kit maak arai" can be loosely translated as "I don't think anything of/I think nothing of" to give a sense of not minding or not being bothered by something.

"Taa ja" means "if (I) will/would/were to".

Many Thais might also drop the "spend time" part and just say:

Pom mai kit maak arai taa ja pak-pawn yoo kon diao / ผมไม่คิดมากอะไรถ้าจะพักผ่อนอยู่คนเดียว

"I don't mind relaxing on my own." It's understood relaxing is usually an activity you spend time doing, so saying "spend time" might be considered redundant.

These are just my impressions as a non-native Thai speaker and I could be wrong.

Yes. Or it can mean be used to say that something "takes time".

Mixing it up a bit with number 2, you can replace "chai" with "sia" and you get "sia waylaa" - wastes time.

Interesting. I thought "take your time", as in "no rush", would be something like "Mai tawng reep na / ไม่ต้องรีบนะ". Also, if you wanted to say that something takes time, as in it can't be done quickly, you would say something like "tawng chai wayla / ต้องใช้เวลา".

Doesn't the classic provide a couple of examples and forward references per word?

The site is overly complex but often worth dealing (e.g. a multitude of transcripts).

It's definitely not a bad site at all and great for beginners and more advanced learners. I'm just after something with more complete sentences and passages of text for context, similar to the Linguee website.

I'm not a Bumrungrad patient. In fact I hate the place. But I would go there for 90 day report as I live rather close. Can one just turn up there on a Saturday?

I did turn up unannounced, arriving at 8am, and was told next time I should make an appointment but they could process me this time (I can't remember what service charge I paid). Below is an email I received from them:

Business Center provides visa extension in Bumrungrad International Hospital once a week called “ONE STOP SERVICE”

Regarding all visa documents must be completed and checked before the service date.

Therefore, you are required to contact Business Center at least 10 days before your visa expires.

Then, we can arrange paper works and the appointment for you.

XXX Citizens who hold on arrival visas / tourist visas can have 30 – Day extension.

    Price breakdown;

    1.Hospital service charge              : THB 850 / person

    2.Photo service                                 : THB 50 / person

3.Inpatient photo printing            : THB 50 / person (if any)

    4.MSN service                                   : THB 400 (if any)

    5.Visa fee                                            : THB 1,900 / person

    6.Overstay fine                                 : THB 500 / person / day (if any)

    In case of walk-in service,

Business Center will need to charge for a hospital service charge as “walk-in service rate THB 1500 / people”

    excluding immigration fees or etc.

I didn't pay for 3, 4 or 6. Note the difference in the service charge depending on whether you make an appointment or just walk in. I would check with them in advance about your nationality, too, as they may not extend visa exempts for 30 days for some nationalities.

  5. You might also be able to have this done at Bumrungrad Hospital which spans Sukhumvit sois 1 and 3, more convenient and faster than going all the way to Chaengwattana.

    https://www.bumrungrad.com/en/services-and-facilities/business-center

Bumrungrad has Immigration officers visit every Saturday to handle this, you just have to make an appointment first. I was able to have a 60-day tourist visa extended there fairly quickly despite NOT being a patient or relative. The link above simply states "visa" and not what kind of visa specifically (tourist or exempt), so try calling or popping in to ask.

  6. Yes, I have a similar inquiry. I'm presently in Da Lat, Vietnam, lovely and cool up in the scenic mountains. (VietJet Air recently started direct flights from Bangkok.) I'm wondering whether Hanoi or HCMC is easier to deal with. Looking at their websites, it seems Hanoi is not so demanding or strict.

http://www.thaiembassy.org/hanoi/th/services/1761/25691-Tourist-Visa.html (assuming this applies to non-Vietnamese passport holders too)

Anyone have any recent experiences with Hanoi?

  7. I assume you no longer have a non 'B' visa and instead have annual extensions of stay based on having a work permit.

    • Each October you apply for a 1 year extension of stay based on working. If that is the case then you have permission to stay until Oct 2016 and if you leave that permission is lost unless you have a re-entry permit.
    • You can get one from an immigration office or at the airport or 1,000 baht.
    • When you return from your trip the IO will use the re-entry permit and stamp you in until Oct 2016.

Thanks everyone. I had made a simple assumption that could've been disastrous. So I can just obtain the re-entry permit at Don Muang Airport before my 8:35am flight to Australia via Kuala Lumpur? I assume I will need to bring a passport photo for the form.

  8. Hello, I was issued a non-immigrant B multiple-entry visa in 2012 in Malaysia, which has been renewed successfully every year in Thailand, including this last October. I'm about to travel back to my home country New Zealand and a friend said I'll still need to apply for a "re-entry permit" to come back, or Immigration will downgrade me to a tourist visa at Suvarnabhumi. I don't really understand this: if the original visa applied for was multiple-entry, which was granted, and this same multiple-entry visa was renewed every year, with no change of category or entry requirements, why do I still need to "apply" for permission to re-enter whenever I leave Thailand? Can I do apply for this re-entry permit while in NZ? Or must I waste a whole day sitting around at Immigration Chaengwattana to apply, what exactly is required, and what is the fee?

  9. Yeah I walked by tony's gym the other day, somewhere around sukhumvit 19.

I walked past it tonight and went inside. Three floors (2nd-4th), not large rooms, low ceilings. No air con, just fans and open windows. Basic equipment but sufficient eg squat rack. No chin/pull-up bar from what I could see, just some grips on one large station, and not much head clearance with the low ceilings. If you're into bodybuilding, Strong Lifts, compound body moves, strength training, hardcore lifting, this gym might be for you. Cheap and open 24 hours. See attached photos of the pricing. PS 2nd floor has a large sign saying not trust the staff! LOL

  10. I'd be very wary. A few tattoo parlors here are trying to cash in by offering a "good deal" but use standard tattoo ink and standard gauge needles, which are NOT appropriate for simulating tiny hair follicles on the scalp. Some places are also presenting themselves as "hair clinics" but look pretty sketchy. Do the research on SMP like semi-permanent vs. permanent, how skin and hair colour factor in, the specialised thin needles and ink blends required etc. And don't automatically trust any online marketing. One Phuket-based "clinic" apparently just copied before and after pics from other websites for some of its portfolio.

  11. Update: bought a small bottle of HG's "Professional Limescale Remover" which the girl at HomePro pointed to and said could handle rust. Didn't work that great, though, and a closer look at the label revealed it actually says "rust STAINS" in Thai, not rust in general. Will try some old-school toothpaste and vinegar remedies I found in Google instead.

  12. Grrrrrrr. Photo didn't upload. Can't edit post. Can't delete post. Can't reply and attach a photo here. C'mon ThaiVisa!

I've tried to find CLR here in Thailand to get rid of rust and stuff from my metal shower and bathtub fixtures but no joy. What's available here that works?
