I'd love to see the number of fatalities that were on motorbikes, and of those, how many were not wearing helmets.

Nothing to see here, well not much apparently.
Got drunk, was silly, nobody was harmed, got fined and paid it.
Move along.

So he gave her the card to buy gold then sell it back for cash which she gave to him? Why would one use a proxy for that? An expensive way to cash advance your credit card that's for sure. I'm calling her story rubbish. And how come she gets a pseudonym but the poor old Chinese guy with the ridiculous name doesn't?

Banning the party that got the most votes at the last election. Someone thinks that is a smart idea? The arrogance of the elite is staggering. And frightening.

Some bizarre replies here. The reference to the Thai woman who hit the Swiss guy is just nuts. Like this is ok because of that? Or if justice isn't done there then it shouldn't be done here either? Unless it was self defence his bashing of the woman is reprehensible, anyone defending it needs to have a good look at themselves, as does this poor excuse for a man.

I have lost track of the number of people I have warned about not riding a motorbike in Thailand. It should go without saying that if you don't hold a valid license to ride the same sized bike in your home country then you will not be insured. Every travel insurance policy I have seen explicitly says this. Same as no coverage for alcohol related incidents.
Bloody lucky the missus was wearing a helmet. I have very sympathy for the young family involved but now a hopefully generous public are being called upon to fund what was irresponsible behaviour.

I should imagine he will face a lengthy ban from flying. It's a long walk and boat ride back to Canada.

a 10 baht necklace is like a ferry rope. And was he wearing it outside his shirt like the tossers do? Asking for trouble.

Dengue is nasty but shouldn't be life threatening in an otherwise healthy person. He is only 36.

Why travel with that amount of cash on you? Silly. He doesn't have cards and a bank account?

You need much more information before casting judgement. Of course there is alcohol. Did a railing fail? Falling off a balcony isn't that easy so what are the specific circumstances? Insurance companies will generally ocover a legitimate accident but not something effectively self inflicted. His family must be shattered.

Would it have been too much for him to put a shirt on? Or did they steal that too?

Why not? The CDC do:

We are more obsessed with this one, that's the main difference. Either way, we are going to have to live with it. What we are doing now isn't living.

Silly amount of money to have in cash. As someone said, they have banks in Isaan. And we don't leave gold in our house even though we have never had a issue with theft.

I cannot believe anyone is arguing against the fact that if you hand your passport over to a motorbike hire company you are "twonk" (I prefer <deleted>, but I am Australian) or a jetski hire company or a car rental company or let your hotel keep it. I don't live in Thailand full time but I have never checked into a decent hotel and not had to produce my passport. I never leave my passport with anyone except my wife or in a hotel safe.

I'm very pleased and encouraged by your post. However, don't you have a problem trying to buy shirts to fit an 11.5 inch diameter arm? The diameter of my upper arm is only 4.5 inch.
Yes, I believe circumference may have been the word our poster was looking for ?

You're in Thailand. If you know you have low T levels then exogenous Test is easily found. If you are 59 your child rearing days are over anyway. Just watch your ticker and your prostate but the supposed negative effects from Test have been largely debunked.

If you are over 56 inches around the waist then spend some serious money on weight loss and not business class travel. If you don't you are not long of this world.

Then what good is so called justice?
Ha ha, funny joke. The rice pledging scheme was the PTP government's policy. Sure it was economic lunacy, but holding her personally liable for it is silly. Blatant persecution. The junta needs the Shinawatras gone because those silly red shirted rice farmers who inconveniently constitute a democratic majority keep voting for them. Hence the absence of democracy at present. Put her in jail and there will be riots.

Very smart move to let her go. If they put her in prison she would have become a martyr for the red shirts. All the drama would start again.

"If the Western man does not understand the family dynamics, this can cause a lot of problems"......
You mean "accept". Plenty of us understand the family dynamics, we're just not prepared to accept (put up with) them.
And you don't see that as being profoundly selfish?

I haven't dropped by here for a long time because it was always so negative. Good to see nothing has changed, 90% of the posts are rubbishing Thais and Thailand.
Which compels me to say that my (Isaan) wife of almost 10 years is the most wonderful human being I have ever known. 1 of seven children from a dirt poor family of rice farmers and I have never been hit up for one baht. They are honest, hard working people and I am honoured to have been accepted into the family. So there are exceptions.
