  1. Appears to be a poorly implemented attempt to stop ad blockers. Get rid of add blocker and I can see most of front page. The work around click the forums button and do not use the front page, pain in the ass yes, or just don't come back. up to you.

Thermocouple replaced now OK. Other thermopile problem fixed, cleaned the thermopile and solenoid bit slow to engage but OK. It's a gas log fireplace.

    All is well that ends.

Hope it didn't take 26 months to get your personal effects released? Makes me a bit worried as my Container arrives end of this month. If you had and problems getting your Container released then would appreciate you extrapolating on problem(s) encountered.

I believe from friends it has a lot to do with which port it comes through. Laem Chabang port is apparently bad. Others not so bad and maybe even reasonable.

  4. This gets interesting. From Skynews on April 1st this year.  "Coronavirus: Thailand trials 15-minute COVID-19 test
If the test is positive the patient is sent for a more comprehensive swab test to confirm the result." So what happened to this test? Went the way of the bomb detectors etc etc

Checking ourworldindata.org/coronavirus-testing website shows that Thailand had a daily testing rate of 0.06 per thousand in October, assuming they have not massively ramped up testing, and whilst I do not like assuming, the dinosaurs in Thailand are pretty predictable. This give a daily testing rate of 60 per million and 4200 for 70million population. Interestingly the labs in Bangkok can handle 10,000 tests per day, hmm where did I see that number recently? So let us not rejoice to much as it looks like someone is fiddling the numbers again.

  5. I know of people who come to Pattaya from Khorat to do the visa as they have insufficient funds. There is a facilitation fee charged by the agent for the temporary deposit of funds or whatever. I assume that this is availble elsewhere as well, as a local visa agent when no one else is listening.

For the Centrelink issue, my experience was at Cannington trying to get my medicare card renewed, the snotty girl refused even though I met the criteria, I argued the point, the supervisor walked over and told miss snotty to go print out the page she was using (incorrectly) as a justification. As soon as miss snotty left the supervisor told me to go to another office, it would be easier. Went to Innaloo and they could not have been more polite or helpful. So try another office is my reccomendation.

PTT don't have the best record of fixing things properly....The Montaro rig oil leak in 2009 was plain shoddy until international pressure mounted on them...then the rig caught fire and took experts eventually come on the scene to douse the fire and plug the well properly.

They should compensate all that have been affected, they're a government enterprise, but no doubt there'll be many arguments in the mean time!

The Montara spill was about 80% Seadrill and 20% PTT fault, 20% to PTT as their company man was not on top of the situation, probably appointed as a mate rather than experience.  The fire started after the second rig was in position and drilling an intercept well. Fire started due to static when they started trying to inject cement subsea into the casing, did not get enough of a seal or enough volume of cement, blew out of the open well head and up she goes. On this one there was something about a truck dumping soil in an early report. You can guarantee the full story will never come out. I suspect old pipeline 20years plus with corrosion, then maybe the truck caused movement.  We shall see.

Pipes have been laid in Pattaya North, Pattaya Klang for some years now and yet not a single wire has gone underground yet! In the last 21 years that I have lived here I have always seen new wires go up but never seen old redundant wires come down.

Come for a wander down Sukhumvit South of Pattaya Tai. Wires getting removed by the truckload. Even the ones that used to go through the roof space of the police box on the corner of Thepprasit.  They also demolished some on Huay Yai Rd recently, my bloody internet out for 2 days as Somchai got carried away.

Wonder what happened to the previous NAX planes built by the RTN ?

"PHUKET: Four Thailand made single-engine aircraft will soon land on the Chao Phraya River in downtown Bangkok as an offering to His Majesty the King if a Royal Thai Navy (RTN) plan is brought to fruition.

The navy team is hoping to present the experimental two-seat amphibians to the much-loved monarch who has been undergoing treatment in hospital.

Vice Admiral Sommai Prakarnsamut, who heads the naval hydroplane development project, disclosed that he looked up to His Majesty every time he ran into problems or felt discouraged.

“Now that we have successfully created these efficient hydroplanes, we really wish to present them to His Majesty,” Sommai said.

He said Thailand was awarded the right to conduct research on the aircraft in 2007 under a multinational effort. Other countries are engaged in the project for different sizes of hydroplanes.

“We started this research project with an initial budget of 500,000 baht,” he said. “It was progressing quite well until we found out that no pilot wanted to steer our prototype for test flights.”

In 2008, Sommai decided to take a pilot course himself, even though he was already 57 at that time. “I spent 500,000 baht from my own pocket on the course,” he said.

Sommai was the first pilot to conduct test flights for the project.

With his fierce determination, the project has finally taken off and has attracted three more willing pilots.

The Thailand Research Fund and the Defense Ministry have also allocated 12 million baht and 15 million baht, respectively, to the project.

“His Majesty’s self-reliance philosophy inspired me to join this project,” said Captain Kritchaphon Rianglekjamnong, another pilot involved in the endeavor.

His Majesty has encouraged the Navy to develop patrol boats and more equipment on its own instead of importing the supplies. “I’m so proud that this hydroplane has been completely invented by Thais,” Kritchaphon added.

The research team has named its invention, Naval Aircraft Experimental or ‘NAX’.

Each NAX hydroplane weighs 360kg, with the maximum test load of 600kg. It flies at a maximum speed of 90 knots and up to 10,000 feet above the ground. It can take off and land on either land or water.

The NAX 01 and the NAX 03 have already been flown with great efficiency.

On May 19, they will carry out their first mission to survey sea-transport spots for the Transport Ministry.

“These Thai made vehicles can be used for coastal patrols and rescue operations too,” Sommai said.

The construction of NAX 2 will be completed in less than two weeks, while NAX 4 will be ready to take off before the end of 2012.

Although the construction cost of each craft is now about 5 million baht, the cost will drop if more planes are manufactured.

“If we have adequate budget for research and development, we won’t have to spend a lot of money on importing boats and aircraft anymore. Please don’t think that Thais won’t be able to provide quality products,” Sommai said.

Kritchaphon said he had flown many types of aircraft, including those made by foreign countries. “I can tell you that this Thailand made hydroplane is second to none. It is even better in terms of durability, easy-to-use functions, and maintenance – and also lower in terms of production cost.”
