  1. Sounds like a rather serious delemma. Can't buy on the first floor because of global warming and can't buy on the higher floors because of - well, you know why. Hmmm, what to do?

You just don't listen do you? :o

I've told you already, buy a house in Mabprachan - On - Sea. :D

To far away and maybe not the safest area in town. I wouldn’t dare take a ride on my scooter around Lake Mabprachan after dark.

  2. as long as farangs have no rights in thailand ( unlike thais in UK ) this sort of thing will keep happening.

as long as farangs have no common sense (I'm not saying this is everyone) in Thailand this sort of thing will keep happening. Everyone has the right to common sense, no matter what the laws are.

...that said, the bargirl in question was lacking in common sense as well (assuming that all johns will just bend over)

    :o

So you mean its commons sense that farangs have rights in Thailand??

  3. Petty thieves - or a threat to your well being?

After the very well publicized murder and robbery of an English resident in the Mabprachan area and the subsequent report that the police had successfully apprehended the alleged culprits, the residents around Mabprachan should now be relaxed.

However, they now live under the constant threat of burglaries!! Recently about 6 houses within Mabprachan Gardens and 7 to 8 houses in Nattikarn Estate have been broken into. These thefts have taken place at various times of the day and night without any apparent fear of the residents being in their houses or not. Items stolen in general range from mobile phones, jewellery, money etc... which are easy to carry, but please be warned. These robbers are getting more and more daring, culminating in them taking a pick-up from one house in Nattikarn on Saturday night! Their blatant daring robberies suggest they are quite fearless, which is extremely dangerous for anyone confronting them.

So please warn all readers to be careful and put away all valuables and definitely avoid tackling these people. One needless death is already one too many.

  4. Alexx,

I have several (like 6) puters in several locations all over Pattaya (unattended) It would be a pretty difficult race to go unplug them all.

Well, I have 3 puters from diff.loc. and I have no probs to unplug before I leave.

They are however all protected by UPS units.

UPS doesn’t protect from lightning only power cut.

My damage resulted from one peice of equipment being plugged in directly (i know, my fault), but the other damage resulted from a lightning induced spike somewhere on my network cable...

It is not feasible to go unplug the network cables on the back of all my pc's on this network each and every time there is a chance of lightning...

    Unplug the 220 V, that’s what I do.

Astral,... aargh how can that be...Mabprachan, the place where the elite of Pattaya resides :D:D

It's a residential area around Mabprachan reservoir located some 10 km inland from Sukhumvit. Major attraction apart from the lake is "driving street", the road going all around the lake and the location of the whole nightlife/restaurant scene of the area :o Until at least late next month, when the Thai visa travel forum's sponsors will open up their little place :D

  5. Yep, the lightning was terrible.

Lost an ADSL modem, which for some reason wasn't plugged in the UPS, but in a direct power plug. Fried the external adapter and unfortunately the entire inards of the modem as well...

Also got a network hub blown up, probably picked up lectrics through one of the network cables (which are on top of the wall separating our houses), since the hub was UPS fed, but fried nonetheless...

Mother nature at her best :o

What a price to pay to have some water during dry season :D

Ever tried to UNPLUGG your puter BEFORE the rainstorm??

    :D

  6. Tookays/Geckos bring luck and are beautiful animals.

It's believed if they cry-out 7 times "GECKOO" you can do a wish which will become reality...sooo be happy with them :o

    LaoPo

    I agree LaoPo.

I have 4 of them and I took this pic a few days ago.

  7. I posted a thread for bkk on this but knowing the farang population in Pattaya, perhaps it is more likely to find in Pattaya. I go frequently down there anyway. So I am looking for Skoal, Copenhagen or any swedish snus. anybody know where to buy it in pattaya. thx.

Hasses soft rock cafe.Soi Post Office.

  8. I think there are more motorcycle dealers in Bangkok than there are grocery stores. Grab a motorcycle taxi driver and tell him to take you to a shop. You probably won't drive more than 5 minuites before you reach the shop.

That was my idea too. I mean, with about 100,000 of these things on the road there should be shops aplenty. Motorcycle taxi drivers have taken me to several places, but they just didn't have what I was looking for.

    Troll.

What makes you think he is a troll? He has just asked a simple question about bike dealers in Bangkok. :o Nothing trollish about that.

If you can’t find motorcycle dealers in Bangkok who sell 110cc motorbikes you must be quite thick.

  10. That's indeed cheap if you really get 400/200 most of the time. Does that include the late afternoon, early evening peak hours?

Edit: Just did a quick search for maxnet on this forum and it seems quite a lot of people complain about maxnet, as recent as January this year. I think I'll just keep paying the premium to continue to have hassle free interent.

  12. Namkin would be drinkable water.

I would however stronly doubt this unless you have a very strong stomach :o

A 14 meter well will get a lot of unfiltered surface water which I for one will not consider drinking in Pattaya. Maybe out in the boonies but not in this overpopulated city...

As CGW mentioned, a deep well has to go straight into the water table, which means normally drilling until they meet a very hard layer (mostly rock) and then slowly penetrate that rock layer.

Under that rocklayer you'll normally find the water table with very clean water, since the dirty surface water will not penetrate that rock layer, or whatever can penetrate will be quite good filtered by the tens of meters sand/clay/rock above it...

Depth is mostly between 40 and 80 meters. Price including lining, submersible pump and basic plumbing should be around 80-90 thousand Baht...

Indeed another 20K is required for the permit which you need for any well over 20 meter deep...

You have to boil it first of course.

Monty, you are welcome to have a sip.

  13. I dug my well 1992. Its 14 meter deep using cement rings. The digging cost 16000 Baht.It took 10 days to complete. The pump submersible,Made in Italy, cost 8000 Baht. Wires and PVC cost circa 2000 Baht. Don’t need any filters. So total cost 26k.The water is “Namkin” quality. Produce about 2000 liter/day. I guess I’m lucky.

  14. Swedish Girl Raped in Koh Samui

The tourist magnet of Koh Samui has been shaken up by a series of rapes and murders within the last couple of days. Among the victims is a 12 year-old girl from Sweden.

A 12 year-old Swedish girl on holiday with her family was reportedly raped Monday last week by one of the employees of the hotel that she and her family were staying at. The suspect worked in the hotel’s restaurant, and he has now been arrested by the Thai police.

The incident happened close by the Swedish family’s hotel by Chaweng Beach on the island’s east coast. The local police are still investigating the case. The suspected rapist has denied that it was rape, claiming that the girl was willing and that he thought she was considerably older than 12.

The incident has shocked and disgusted the tourists in Koh Samui, writes the Danish daily BT, and the state of shock has only been increased by a series of similar events in the past days. On New Year’s Eve, a 21 year-old British woman on vacation was raped and murdered while on the phone with her mother, and on top of that, a 22 year-old Brazilian model, Talipa Rosini has now gone missing. It is not yet known what has happened to her.
