  1. Why dont you just download them from somewhere like pirate bay ,transfer to a hard drive and plug into your tv ,all the latest bbc progs even the 5 year old stuff on entertainment.?

I tried Pirtate Bay and got loads of virus warning.

I tried BBC iPlayer and everything I tried is only available in the UK (silly really because back in the UK, you can watch everthinbg on the TV)

BBC iplayer is easy to watch in Thailand using a proxy. It's even better than live TV as you can choose from any programme over the past week or more.

  2. My condo needed to raise more money for maintenance. As i understand it to increase the normal common fee at least 50% of ALL the co-owners need to agree at an AGM. As we never get that many attend this was not possible. But it seems we can charge an additional fee using only 50% of co-owners ATTENDING an EGM. This is the route we took to get an additional 5million baht of funding. Our standard common fee is fairly low at 20 baht per sq m per month.

  3. I've just bought a 55in LG LED TV and i must say the pictures are MUCH better than my old plasma TV and in HD or blu-ray they are stunning. I know they cost quite a bit more than a plasma or LCD (I paid 50,000 baht) but if you are replacing a TV i would say go for the best now. Over the life of the TV it doesn't amount to much extra per day.

  4. Nope. Yellow housebook or certificate of residence. Some accept workpermit. None accept DL

How about a copy of the 90 day report? As the Immi. are full aware of where one is staying at, this should be Ok. However it's not. Must have to do with money changing hands. rolleyes.gif

90 day report is you stating where you stay

certificate of residence is you providing documents as proof of where you live

silly comment on "money changing hands" as they are both free

I get charged 200 baht for my residence certificate.

  5. I had my HD box installed yesterday and had the same problem no sound on 121 but OK on all the others strange. I found the answer though if you had the audio setting on PCM not Dolby then you get the sound back on 121.

The picture is obviously good on the HD channels but i think the other pictures are not as good as my old box.

  6. I have some friends who have a live-in Thai girlfriend. My understanding is that is customary to provide an allowance, pocket money or a stipend to one's live-in Thai girlfriend.

My friends, who all live in Pattaya, give their GF any where from 1K per week to 10k per month, plus they provide all food, drinks, entertainment and medical care. They occassionally take her for short trips to Koh Sami, her village and other places. She basically takes care of him, cleans the condo daily, cooks and shops, if required, and of course, keeps him happy in bed. She uses her stipend for makeup, clothes and gifts to her parents. Most of the GFs don't work outside of the home, but some do.

I'd love to have a live-in Thai GF. What are other guys doing for their live-in Thai girlfriends?

Your friends are all NUTS do they do this with a girlfriend in their own country?

In my own country i wouldn't get a 25 year old to stay with me a 58 year old. I pay mine 10,000 baht a month plus her food, trips etc.

  7. I don't think it matters at all whether you buy now or not. There won't be discounts for 2011 models, and 2012 are already out, as has been noted.

PCX or Scoopy, depending on budget and preference. Both are going to have much better resale value than the other brands. Honda is like Toyota that way.

The non-fuel-injected automatics can use a lot of gas. The Mio used to be terrible (not sure they fixed it by now though as the Nuovo Elegance is also not FI but gets pretty good mileage).

I have a Nouvo Elegance and the gas mileage is great. Around town i get 37 km/l. I've just done some runs up to Chon Buri and i was getting close to 50 km/l.

  8. We visited so many Honda, Mazda, Toyota and Nissan dealers that I had to actually keep a journal to remember the details. We accidentally stumbled upon a Nissan dealer on the North end of Phahon Yothin past the Royal Thai Air Force. My wife and I were treated with kindness and respect by Siam Nissan Mahanakorn near Phahon Yothin 25. May, the salesperson, along with the Finance Manager, Sukit, and Nok, the Bank Representative did there absolute best to speak clear and understandable English. (They did not, I repeat they did not, play the speak Thai to her and English to him game.)

I made it clear to them we only wanted the least expensive Nissan March model with manual transmission. We were told by every dealer it would take more than one month but they could not be sure. After having this same conversation with May on Sunday she looked me in the eye and said no problem. We can have the car two days after your finance is approved with the bank. She said that would be Wednesday and the car will be ready Friday at 17:00. We get a call from May on Wednesday saying that everything is approved and the car will be ready at 15:00, not 17:00, on Friday.

We arrive at 15:00 on Friday as planned. The car was ready and waiting for us in the staging area. May, the salesperson, and Raywat, the Service Manager, spoke English to us and went over every detail about the car, the warranty and the maintenance schedule. They made sure both my wife and I understand everything. They even asked permission to explain a couple of things in Thai to my wife that she did not fully understand.

We can whole heartedly recommend May and the guys at Siam Nissan Mahanakorn. I will keep you posted on our future experiences with the service team.

Can you tell us which model you bought (base model??) and for how much?

Paid 380,000 for the Black Nissan March S-MT.......... My FREE choices were floor mats, window film, exhaust finishing tip and wax. You can choose anything free up to 1% of the amount of the car. (380,000 x .01= 3,800) The 1st Class insurance was 12,500 Baht. Adding in Registration, Road Tax and 3000 Baht Red Plate Refundable Deposit the grand total including insurance was 19,000 Baht.

Thanks for that. I think the base model has black mirrors/door handles so i suppose you are limited to buying a black car. Insurance seems a good price at only 12,500.

I'm looking to buy a base March as well. Would you mind saying what you paid for the car, with any freebies ? insurance etc.

  10. We went to the Honda car dealer yesterday, she told us it would take 6 months to one year to get a new car.

I wanted to buy a Honda Brio in the next few months to take advantage of the Government's 100,000 baht rebate but i guess no chance of that now. Has anyone recently ordered/bought a Brio recently and what was the quoted delivery date.

  11. Yes, her name can go in your blue book.

    Interesting reply

So the name on the Chanote and the name on the Blue book can be different(obviously that addition being post marriage I assume)

    Presumably not pre -marriage?

What would happen if they choose to end the relationship?

As an aside a farang can have his name on a blue book -but only on the inside of the front outer cover.

    Chanote is ownership

Tabien Baan (blue book) is house register. First Resident in Tabien Baan is Master of House, decides who can register to live in house.

Relationship between owner as registered in Chanote and Master of House as registered in Tabien Baan is not relevant.

My name is on the Chanote as proof of ownership but my Blue Book is empty (because i think only thais can be listed in the book). If i put my thai girlfriend's name in the Blue Book (as she lives with me) does this make her Master of House (and what does that mean in practice).

  12. so a foriegner paying over 4000 baht income tax a month for the last 3 years with a work permit is not credible for this offer of 100 000 baht tax rebate?

Only credibiltiy required for this scheme is a Thai ID card and Tabien Ban...

Sorry what is a Tabien Ban? is it a house book as someone mentioned earlier. Does this mean a thai would only get the rebate if they owned a house? I am looking to buy a new car under this scheme in my tgf's name (yes i know the risk) but she does not own a house, only has Thai ID card. Is she still eligible?
