  1. Average 5 postings a day over 10 years = 18250 posts.

However I have noticed a marked change in the CM forum over the last 2 years. It is almost like a private Facebook or chat area for a group hence the huge number of posts.

Only replying to this to improve my post count as it looks like I am seriously lagging behind.

    I'm joining you here.

Incidentally, what do those dots below a member's name in the profile page stand for. Last time I checked my profile, I've got one dot.

  2. Granted, there are many reprehensible farangs in Thailand. But when violence occurs, the police should investigate why it has occurred and not just ignore it when the Thais say the farangs said something they didn't like. That's not a justification for a group of 5, 6 people ganging up on an individual when he's intoxicated and beat up on him! I'm sure other countries would prosecute the offenders if they use physical violence against a Thai simply because the Thai said something not to their liking.

  3. OP, I think you have already gotten your answer in the first page as regard to your wish.

As for the traditional way, let me add a few words from what I have experienced.

The going away of my inlaws were arranged by my sister-in-law, a Thai and a Buddist. The going aways for them were done in elaborate fashion which I will not mention, but only the basics here.

    1. Hold a wake at the temple (number of days is flexible within reason)

    2. Comes the time of cremation after the wake

    3. Here, they don't incinerate but leave a few major bones.

    4. The monk picks up the major bone fragments and wrap them in a white cloth and give it to the family. The remain - the ash -is for the family to put in a urn and do as they desire afterward, usually a bin on the wall inside the wat. NancyL has mentoned these.

    5. The family and immediate relatives release the wrapped bone fragments into the ocean, away from the shore.

When I go, I want to be buried together with my wife, and so does she so she can continue yapping at me since we were 15. She said it's unlucky to talk about it now, wait till we are about 70. LOL

  4. I bought my XBOX 360 at a stall in Airport Plaza not long ago, near where all the banks are. They may be able to help you.

Also, try computer plaza on the second floor.

I just looked at the contact places of the stall I bought at Airport Plaza.

Mind you, I just bought the XBOX there and have never used any service afterward to say if it's any good.

No harm to call I guess.

  5. Quote from The Guardian: "If you buy prawns or shrimp from Thailand, you will be buying the produce of slave labour," says Aidan McQuade, director of Anti-Slavery International."

Are all prawns and shrimp produced by slave labor? Also, beside CP, there are other seafood producers such as Surapon Seafood, Thai Union Frozen, to name just a few. Has that director checked before he spewed irresponsible and defamatory remarks to include all of Thailand? Surely, the writer at The Guardian capitalizes on it by quoting him in a sensationalized news.

I think it's about time someone files some lawsuits against some of these right groups for defamation through propagandizing!

CP has already clarified that 72% of the suppliers are certified and the remaining is not clearly visible or directly under their control. Who knows?.. those migrants may even have better benefits than they were before in where they came from. If they could, they would like to come to the West, and for women, they could have many children, sometimes without knowing who their fathers are, but they receive benefits from the government from taxes paid by hard working people. The working middle-class pay and hardly able to save much. Their main assets are the house on mortgage and the retirement fund. Yeah, that's equality for you... No such thing!

  6. I recently replaced the 40" LCD TV (about 10 years old?) with a 50" LED in the master bedroom. The 40" was moved to my study room.

No problem wth the 50" with the media player, the 3D, the internet, and the XBOX 24 (via either the HDMI or VGA ports). However, the only HDMI port on the older 40" (a JVC) doesn't work with the XBOX though the VGA port works. Any idea? Too lazy to try connecting a laptop to the 40" via the HDMI cos they are currently connected to larger monitors.

Could it be the specs on the HDMI on the older TV do not conform to those in the newer XBOX?

Does the TV have a DVI port? If so, can get a HDMI to DVI converter for 200 baht or so. XBOX a 360 I presume - HDMI cable is normal (replaced mine several times - had a puppy that liked to chew - just used a standard one from a TV shop). Might be the settings on the TV - might have to enable digital input in the menu, and set the input to HDMI (often needs to be receiving a signal before it will allow it to be switched to that input channel - so plug in first). Other than that, get someone to look at the TV port.

    Thanks wolf5370.

    Yes, it's XBOX 360!

Yes, it does have a DVI port, but since it works with the VGA so I won't bother with the DVI port.

'Might be the settings on the TV - might have to enable digital input in the menu..."

I have a hunch that that might be it. I actually did try to access the menu but some keys on the remote didn't work and I got frustrated and gave up. The remote now had presumably been repaired but still sitting in the car and I haven't tested it yet. Thanks again wolf5370.

  7. Do you have a second hdmi cable to try?

I have found these cables can fail.

    First, thanks for replying.

I used the same HDMI cable on both TVs. The XBOX worked on the new TV, but didn't work with the old TV.

No, I don't have a second hdmi cable. May get one later on. In the mean time, I'll try it on another 40" Toshiba LED (about 1.5 years old) to see how it goes.

I think you do have a point. But since it works with the VGA port I never get too serious about it until I see this thread and wonder if others have encountered the same problem. Thanks.

  8. The few people I know, including my sister-in-law, who've joined Amway, Herballife etc do not actually work on selling to make a living. Rather, they buy the products at a discount for their own use. Like someone has mentioned, Amway does have some good products, the silicon wax for cars is one.
