  1. Get referred to a local seat recovering shop that can make you a corbin look-a-like for a tenth of the price.

thanks for the picture and your answer. That of course is always an option. I had local machine shops when I lived in Manila make me a stainless steel carrier for a couple of times. But that involves spending a long time at the machine shop as they need to test and check and weld and check and so on. It took me a long time to have it done like I wanted it but again it does not look like the ones you can get in the US. As for the seat I tried that also but the outcome of the seat I got from the local shop was not satisfying so I never tried that again.

  2. Getting around bangkok,I like the skytrain better. If I rode A bike in that city I think it would only be A matter of time before i'd be on someone's winshield.

that must not be the case I have ridden a bike in Manila (similar traffic to BKK) for 7 years daily and I never had an issue. Of course if you are afraid of riding in the city and have that always in mind, that something might happen, then for sure you will have an accident at one time.

Of course as a rider in Bangkok, you need to be ALWAYS aware of the mistakes others do and act acordingly as you don't have a crumple zone as a car.

My post was mainly to let riders know that there is a place where you could get a bike in Bangkok, even if you need to reserve the bike at some time because his bikes are in high demand. ;)

  3. Where do I buy some accessories in Bangkok for the Kawasaki KLX250S?

In particular I am interested in a proper seat as the Kawa seat is horrible slim and my ass was painful after a few hours on the bike, I mean of course I could buy a Corbin seat from the US, but I would prefer if I could get a seat locally.

Second accessory I am really interested is a proper rear rack like the Pro Moto Billet Cargo rack, that one I like very much. Alternatively a good looking powder coated rack. Not the 1,500 Baht cheap rack they sell at Kawasaki Ramkhamhaeng, that one will start rosting in a few days.

Of course those are only the most important parts. And again of course I could order it from the US, but isn't there something available locally in good quality?

    Thanks for any answer.

If you want to add some accessories what you think is really needed for the bike let me know what it is and post where I can get it in Thailand, specially in Bangkok. B)

  4. theres plenty of places renting bikes in bangkok

i rented a pcx to test it out from www.bangkok-motorbike-rentals.com but the thai lady is more interested in long term rentals (speaks perfect english though)

they are beside suttisan police station and MRT station

It would be great if you could provide a more detailed address and contact details. I have previously searched for motorbike rental in Bangkok and came up only with Franck and another place where I did not find clear infos. Also do they also rent bigger bikes or at least the KLX250 from that [place or do they have only small scooter?

  5. Came back two weeks ago from a week in Bangkok and rented a Kawasaki KLX250. I can really say that this was the best decision which I did. Because you come around, you see a lot and it is really a lot of fun.

    I rented the bike from

    http://www.bangkokbikesrental.com/

Franck, the owner is French, can speak fluently Thai and he has a great selection of bike, from 125cc to 650cc, but for the city I prefer the smaller bikes as the big ones are to heavy.

Renting the bikes is not really that cheap compared to the Philippines where I lived the last couple of years. For a 250cc bike you need to pay 1.000 Baht a day for the week it is 5.600 Baht, the cheapest would be for a full month which will set you back 11.600 Baht.

His house with the bikes is along Ramkhamhaeng Road Soi 50, Hua Mark, Bang Kapi, 10240 Bangkok, GPS: 13.755025 N und 100.642975 E

I was very happy with the bike, took the KLX250, even it had motard tires I enjoyed it a lot. I would rent one again, but since I am moving over to Bangkok this October, I will buy my own KLX250.

He also had a D-Tracker but I got the KLX but with Motard tires. Another pic from a brandnew KLX as well.

After I returned the bike to Franck, I was waiting in Friday afternoon traffic for a Taxi, and non I tried to stop wanted to bring me back to Sukhumvit. Fortunately there was a Thai woman also waiting there and she saw me, she asked me where I wanted to go and I told her but she said they will go somewhere else. Then her husband came by by car and picked her up. But it was very traffic and they waited in front of me und suddenly they told me to hop in they would bring me to a place where I would be able to go back easily. They brought me to the Airport Express Station Huamark. Very very kind of them, from there I took the train two stations to Makkasan via Ramkhamhaeng and walked over to the Phetchaburi MRT station and took the MRT one station to Sukhumvit and then I took the Skytrain another station to Nana where I took a motortaxi back to my hotel and I guess since it was Friday afternoon, I was quickly back, even had enough time to walk over to Gullivers for some food and drink.

I am riding a lot here in Manila and the chaos is comparable but I was a bit hesitant at first because of the unknown traffic on the left side. I was actually thinking to get a NAVI but I would have had no time to look at it because I had to concentrate on the road. But I rode around a lot and I somehow always found it back.

But of course the police stopped me once. Because I came down from Wireless and turned right to Sukhumvit, I was wondering why all bikes went straight and I was the only one turning. It was raining like crazy and I was wet and just wanted to go back to the hotel. So the croc stopped me, he hardly spoke English and I did not speak any Thai. Since I also forget to bring my International License (actually brought one but left it in the hotel due to the big size) and my Philippine license looked suspicious to him, anyway he kept on demanding I pay 800 Baht, due to no license. Somehow he never mentioned the violation of turning there. He also tried to get my key, because I kept on pushing forward. In the end I had to follow him to his shack under the bridge. I always repeated that I will not pay as I have a license and I did not know about the corner. Anyway in the end I placed a 100Baht under some papers on the desk and turned to leave, he just let me go but shouted at me to bring my license the next time. So I just found out that the crocs are as corrupt as in Manila, so nothing is going to change for me, he he he.

But despite this I loved the bike, I even went along Sukhumvit in the direction of Pattaya for about an hour, passed by the three-headed elephant and the crocofarm, Somehow the traffic went lighter and lighter. Probably will be heading this way more often once I live there...

  6. You can get real leeks very easily now in Bangkok. Most Tops, Foodland, Villa, Gourmet Market and even Makro sell leeks. Just look around the organic section, they're usually about 30 baht for two medium sized leeks in Tops and about 80 baht a kilo in Makro.

I've only ever seen Celeriac in Villa, it was very expensive though, about 250-300 baht/kg.

thanks so much all for your answers, so I am going to look around the Villa, still have to figure out where the next Villa supermarket is.

  7. Big C (the Fashion Island branch, at least) has proper celery - but by "root celery" do you mean celeriac? That I've only ever seen here in Siam Paragon.

Leeks (imported Australian and very, very expensive) are sometimes seen in Villa.

Foodland and TOPS both stock frozen lamb, but Makro is significantly cheaper.

thanks a lot for your answer and also from the others. I will try this out. As for root celery, what I mean is that

    w w w.lgl.bayern.de/lebensmittel/pic/sellerie_knollen.jpg

(Sorry as I am a new member I can not post the link, just copy it into the browser and remove the spaces between the w's)

I guess the very expensive Australian leeks is what I would like to get. I also heard it might be available at Gourmet Market at the Emporium or Siam Paragon. I have to check out that Gourmet Market as well, I also heard that they stock a lot of organic vegetables and fruits, which I like.

  8. anybody know where to get root celery and leeks (not the small onion leeks but the bigger ones) in Bangkok?

I already looked in Big C and in Tops, Big C didn't even have the Asian style celery. Tops had the Asian style celery but not the root celery and also not the leeks only onion leeks.

Thanks a lot for any hint.
