  1. Company structure is not illegal if your purpose is to run it like a business, for rental purpose for example and make money and have Thai partners. The later is debatable as long as the Thai partners are relatively well off it won't be looked into further.

It's when you just want to own the house you "may" run into problems but even with the doom and gloom I've never heard of anyone forcibly having to sell the property.

Maybe someone can cite a newspaper article that isn't a "crackdown" but rather an actual forced sale.

Look at the "ownership" situation in many areas of Thailand.

  2. I have 2 things. The first is finding a contractor to convert my plunge pool in phuket into a jacuzzi. Even though i am prepared to pay whatever it takes nobody seems interested. The second is to get my hands on a kick ass HTPC. Although you can get something for $300-700 here in Bangkok it still requires major programming and upgrades and I'm to stupid to do that. I saw this site in the US that builds custom ones where a fully loaded one can cost around $5k . I'm not gonna pay that much but reading through the options available makes me green with envy.

You can buy one for like 100-120k THB including installation. Self cleaning just need to switch water monthly.

  3. I might have a place for you. Tenant may be moving in a few weeks. 15k at MRT sutthisan 2 min walk from subway. Pool, gym, rooftop garden, lounge. It's a small 1br, 32sqm. Shoot me a private message if interested.

  4. Hi forum,

We are a young couple traveling with a small child 2yo. to Samui december to january this year (40 days or so). We have been before and know generally the areas but that was during the low season and several years ago.

Any recommendations for condo or apartments with communal areas (BBQ, pool, etc.) that is less of a party place and more for families? We like to have fun too so not completely dead.

Preference is walking distance to a beach and not too far away from convenience stores and some restaurants. Parking is needed too. We were thinking Lamai or outskirts of Chaweng towards crystal beach (we stayed there and loved it last time). Mae nam had pretty rough water in the low season (for an infant) so figured the east coast would be better but open for any area.

I am familiar with going rates but our budget is pretty open within reason. Any feedback or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

  5. You can't learn the psychology with a demo account and books like ta for dummies. Spend some time learning how to read charts/candlesticks, use difference analysis software, watch YouTube videos etc. then open a real account and use cfd for leverage. It's hard but you will figure it out.

Don't trust the craze trading programs sold on the Internet they are over optimized to show a high hit ratio and profit factor.

Very good point about investing or trading. Investing you focus on the fundamentals of a company while traders go for noise, follow trends and market sentiment.

Investopedia is a good start to understand terminology. Lots of click bait articles but useful start. Watch software vids from ig, cmc, interactive traders, Etc

  6. "work permit used to be 500bht now almost 4000 bht"

I paid 3,000 baht for the year, and i paid the same 3,000 baht 10 years ago. i see no increase.

"accounting audit [12 month return] used to be 12000 now 26000 bht using same thai accountant"

We paid about 12,000 10 years ago, this year 16,000 baht. 4,000 baht over 10 years, seems reasonable to me. maybe you need to change accountant.

"some new law that says you can only have a work permit now on single entry non B visa NOT a multiple entry....."

Why not apply for the one year extensions, like I do. Cost me 1,900 baht for the year.

"even my electric bill has gone from an average of 3400 bht to 5200 bht in the last few months when I have been using noticeably less power due to the cool weather and not using the air cond hardly at all."

Electric costs have increased for everyone. Can't say why your bill has increased so much, but unit rates have not increased by the 40% in your example. More like 10% max over the last year. it's called inflation factors.

I can't say that I being 'shafted', however I do feel that the authorities make do not make it any easier each year i apply for annual extension and annual WP application.

16,000 is the norm for accounting up from 14,000 for me. Govt fees haven't changed for me or mine.

  7. If you have a PS3, you have the best media server in existence. Stream everything through DLNA from your PC hard drive. It's like falling off a log.

    One word, Cinevida :-(

WD live HD plays 3D blu rays and 5,5 gig mkv without a stutter and costs 60-75 euros. Also works as a NAS via intranet you can stream easily to devices. Plays anything except FLV.

    Awesome device.

  8. APPLE accept no substitute !

sure they are expensive but once you have owned and used one you will see the value.

and please do not start slagging off at them unless you actually own one and are familiar with them .

    rob

Having just tried to install office for my niece with multiple users on a macbook pro you can keep them.

The reason everyone is sitting in the apple shop asking for help is that everything is either broken or illogical in operation.

If you can't install software on a Mac you shouldn't use a computer to begin with.
