new pension phone number is 08007317898, expect to lose 30+ minutes of you life, use skype its a free call, just a connection charge, as normal 0044 8007317898, my start date was after you, i already have my first payment ( see my post above)
I have recently applied for my State Pension as I am 66 in July. Without browsing all the posts I can tell you that you can apply on the phone from Thailand. The number I called was 009441218777. I had saved the online form and filled out all the relevant questions. This is advisable as you can then answer the questions as they come at you. I spoke to a very nice woman who was friendly and helpful. I would say it was done and dusted in about 15 minutes. A few days later a I received a text from the DWP telling me that my State Pension had been processed and I will recieve a letter at somepoint telling me everything I need to know. I am having it paid into my Thai Bank account.
Word of advice. Make sure you have all the answers to the questions in front of you before you ring. My friend tried to apply on the phone without all the information and when he couldn't answer one of the questions he was told to fill out the form and send it in. Don't be put off by the 26 pages of questions, a lot don't apply to you and a lot they don't ask.
Any questions I am happy to advice.

Well as I hit 66 in July, I thought I'd better make a start on applying for my UK state pension. I went online and into the GOV.UK website. I eventually bought up the form IPC BR1 NSP. This is 26 pages of information they require from you. It looked quite daunting to start with, but I worked my way through it. They said I needed to send the form to the UK, along with my marriage and birth certificate.
I could send copies, as long as they were signed by a civil servant a doctor or surgeon registered under the laws of the country where the declaration is made a minister of religion a barrister, solicitor or advocate authorised to practice in the country where the declaration is made a notary public or any person allowed to administer oaths in the country where the declaration is made an officer of a bank authorised to sign documents .
I was told by a friend who had recently turned 66 that he did his application over the phone, so I thought I'd try that route first. Save the time and expence of getting my documents signed.
I phoned the number yesterday and spoke to a very nice woman who told me she could do the application on the phone and it would take approximately fifteen minutes. I had the form filled out on my laptop so had all the answers to her questions in front of me. She only asked about 50% of the relevant questions on the form, and within the fifteen minutes it was completed. I'd put six hundred baht on my phone expecting a long wait to get through, but I needn't have bothered as the woman took my number at the start of the call and told me if we got cut off she would ring me back. The lenght of the call was seventeen minutes and cost around 130 baht.

Just photo copy everything. I remember thinking I had everything covered but I still forgot something. My old license needed photocopying. Luckily there was a place outside. Get there early and be prepared for a long ardious morning. If you're really unlucky you'll still be there in the afternoon.
However, it may not be so busy do to the current situation.

Can't help you with Australia post. However I am getting my monthly pension payment slip sent over from the UK, although it is taking approximately two more weeks to arrive than normal. So you may be like me and your post is delayed.

My wife was successful last night. Far easier on a computer apparently.

Looks like we have nearly another six weeks of this uncertainty, I can't believe that a big concern like the Nation cannot get a definitive answer to who exactly will be affected by this mandatory health insurance? Many people are voicing there opinion, and to be honest I can see both sides of the debate. However, like hundreds, maybe thousands of others who read this forum, we need something from an official source.

After reading about this on Tuesday morning, and after reading hundreds of posts on two threads I've come to the conclusion that no one is 100% sure if they are affected or not by this Compulsory health insurance. Many people have different perceptions of what has been written, what has been said, and who it affects. From day one I found it hard to believe that this new rule would only affect a small minorty of people over the age of 50. I'm on an extension, but until this new requirement comes into affect in July, I'm not counting my chickens. Not until I hear news from an official source and not from a forum/newspaper.

Sorry but It's myopic or naive to believe that the mandatory health insurance won't be applied to (almost?) everybody who's over 50 & is on a long term (1 year) visa
My thoughts exactly. I'm sure when this was formulated, they meant were thinking of all long stay over 50s. Not just a small group of O-A visa holders.

I'd like to ask you guys a question. Obviously this issue of the mandatory health insurance is making thousands of us expats very nervous.. My phone was very busy with messages coming from friends in the same and sometimes worse position than me. Yesterday afternoon I started to get messages telling me I was okay. It was only for people on an Non Immigrant Visa OA, not the extension based on retirement. It's on Thaivisa forum I was told.
So, obviously I checked and sure enough I've read what I would think thousands of retirees have read.
My question is this. Has this latest development coome from an offical government source? Or has it come from within the Nation?Thaivisa forum? Because I do wonder if it's been lost in the translation/terminology process. I ask because I do wonder when the cabinet announced it was for all people on a long stay visa over the age of fifty, I have a feeling they meant all of us. OA ... Extension, I can't help but wonder if what your saying is what the Government actually mean. That's what I ask has this come from an offical source? I would like to know the amount of people on the OA visa against the extension of stay people? Not that I know, but I would imagine ther is a huge amount of difference with the extension of stay being a far higher number. Maybe I'm getting cynical in my old age, but it doesn't make sence to target a small group against the rest of us. I know it's written OA visa, but do they realise they are not including the majority of retired people here.

I can recommend this book. 3 nights in Thailand, based on a true story.

Or a very good thriller Pattaya Dangerous, by the same author.

Wow, a lot to wade through. I can't help but think there are a lot of people clutching at straws here. Going through the terminology of what's been announced with a fine tooth comb. Unfortunately I read it as everybody over fifty on a long stay visa will be required to get the health insurance. If you have just renewed your visa, good luck to you, looks like you have another year. If it's due in the next couple of months, expect the worse.

Had an interesting mail from an insurance broker after I contacted him regarding health insurance. He sent me a couple of quotes from two of the companies who have the contract if this comes into being. A lot of people keep telling me this wont come in? If you look at the top of the two attachments you can see they have been tailor made for the long stay visa guys.

Always recommend a good read. The Arthur Ascot trilogy for people who like humour and nostalgia. The three books cover 36 different investigation cases over a nine year period starting in 1968. Written by a long time Pattaya resident. Available on Amazon.

My two driving licences run out next month. Could any member give me the latest requirements. Also, my last licences were issued in Chonburi Town. I have since moved to Jomtien. Will there be a problem going to the Pattaya licence centre this time? Any help on this subject will be appreciated.

Found this thread, so thought I'd do a bit of self-advertising and offer advice to any budding authors.
I have two books recently published. They are humour based stories and can recommend if you like an enjoyable read. The first book is called The Curry Affect. My second book is called Arthur Ascot PI. My third book will be released next month. I have a authors page on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Trevor-Whitehead/e/B01N5NNZ3E

Could someone inform me the required time you need on your passport to renew a retirement visa?
My retirement visa is due in September and my passport expires in February 2017. I've heard various times from 6 months to 18 months.

Certainly a good idea to have some hobbies if you've retired out here. Living next to the sea means I can enjoy a nice beach walk, I try and ride my bike most days. Have a nice gym and swimming pool at the comlex I live, (when open.)
I write, and have been lucky enough to have twelve books published. Couple of times a week I fish off the beach. All I have mentioned are free or cost very little money.
