Of course its not time, it never will be, but isn't it time for all other countries to ban Thais from owning property, not allowing Thais to do any other work than massage and cooking, not allowing Thais to invest and not giving them citizenship and all the benefits it gives? You know, an eye for an eye, for once.

Considering the fact that very few seems to care, let alone quarantine, after travelling from provinces with the most cases, I expect a sharp increase in number of cases in 2-4 days.

The village here in Udon is filled with dozens of people coming from these provinces. Few seems to even know about the quarantine requirements and those who do clearly don't care. They're all walking around and partying like Covid never happened.

fyi, for everyone talking about the notion of lockdowns and whether they should have been done, or will be done...
Just be aware, several dozen provinces have announced that they'll be enforcing quarantines and other restrictions on domestic travelers arriving from Bangkok and several adjoining provinces because of the COVID clusters identified there.
This is what they've announced... How seriously the various rules will actually end up being enforced remains to be seen.
Its not enforced. At least a couple of hundred people around Thailand have arrived in our village in Udon yesterday and today. Plenty, if not most, has come from Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Chonburi including in my family. None are quarantining. Its packed in the village now and the parties have already begun.

17 minutes ago, ThailandRyan said:Do you live here in Thailand or elsewhere. Thailand's way of dealing with this virus has always been to isolate a person in a hospital whether asymptomatic or symptomatic. The other way they have dealt with it has been to place you in a field hospital and when symptoms showed up carted you off to the hospital. The final way they dealt with it was to ring entire factories with barbed wire and lock all inside, just like they did with the migrant workers in Samut Sakhon. It is done this way because in the early days of the virus spreading, folks that were asked to quarantine at home, think little ghosts as they are called, failed to follow the orders and then went out partying. Thai people do not listen to orders or follow rules often, and the "I feel Fine" "What do you mean I can not go out" crowd will never be kept inside, and so mandatory hospitalization was enacted. Think about all of those with little money who also share a 25 sqm apartment with 5 or 6 others, and rely on buying food from street vendors, and the local 7-11. How would you isolate them in their home from the others and still get them the needed food. Nice try Hoax, but the reality here is they are and will be hospitalized until this government decides to try again, but then those that live in crowded conditions must be separated to contain the spread.
Yes I live in Thailand.
I agree with you, kinda even said the same in the post you quoted, but I'm saying good luck to Thailand if they're going to continue that route if cases reach 10k+ daily in a worst case scenario, knowing that in Europe most large hospitals doesn't even have a capacity of 1,000 beds. Only 2 hospitals in the world have a capacity of more than 3,500 beds. When hospitals are filled with covid patients in most of the world, it's not because 60% of the beds are occupied by asymptomatic patients. These are patients who need treatment, the rest are told to stay home.
I see the issues you're referring to, and Thailand need to have solutions at hand if needed, like free food delivery and strict control and penalties for people breaching quarantine. Field hospitals is of course another option but I don't know, would you rather spend two weeks at home or in a sweaty and uncomfortable bed with hundreds or thousands of others? I think most people in Thailand would prefer watching TV at home.
That being said, I disagree with you on Thai's not following orders. Compared to western countries Thais are much better at following government guidance and rules, so not sure where you're getting that idea from.

4,314 receiving treatment? In hospitals? Good luck to Thailand if they're going to hospitalize everyone with Covid. Wouldn't surprise me though knowing people here goes to hospital to get drip and antibiotics just for a runny nose. Much better to quarantine people who are asymptomatic or not very ill at home so there are beds available for those who actually need help.

Must come from countries without mutations?
There have been at least 4000 mutations of Covid-19 detected worldwide.
According to Nature.com virologists had catalogued over 12,000 mutations of the virus' genomes already in September 2020.
https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-02544-6
The vast majority of them doesn't affect how the virus work, and most of them die off before spreading or getting foothold, but just about every country has several strains on their watchlist.
As of March 5, Norway have detected 130 different mutations of Covid. 35 that have spread domestically. 3 that are on FHI's watchlist (S477N, N439K and B1525). They all have changes in the respiratory binding domain, similar to the British, South African and Brazilian variants. In February FHI analyzed test of 10 people who had been in Africa. 8 of them were new variants.
https://www.tv2.no/a/12420667/ (Norwegian)
That being said, the British and South African strains are widespread. Then there's the first Indian mutation that the Burmese migrants took with them to Thailand that started the second wave, then there's the Brazilian strain and now there's a new Indian double mutation reported a few days ago. Probably many more strains to look out for as well.
In other words, no one qualifies for 7 days quarantine.

I have a dozen family members coming from all over Bangkok and Samut Prakan to Udon Thani in 3 days. Can't say I'm liking this. Then I have to go get a stamp at the Embassy in a couple of weeks. Everything is just bad timing now.

1 hour ago, brewsterbudgen said:Only 250 cases, so why the panic? Surely, there will be a similar number every day for years to come (and probably have been for ages). If most people are asymptomatic or just have mild symptoms, the hospitals should be able to cope.
Who's panicking?
The hospitals are able to cope because we're containing it in the first place. If we didn't we'd end up worse than countries where hospitals aren't able to cope, people laying in corridors, dying in waiting rooms, stacked upon each other in mass graves. This is the reality in some countries who have failed, were people like you didn't care, despite an effort from the government and hospitals. If you took away that effort, it would've been even worse.
Should also take into consideration we're not just talking about deaths, but also aftereffects. Around 30% of the infected experience long-covid (60+ days), where 32% were asymptomatic and didn't experience the aftereffects before months later. 72% of long-haulers are aged between 30 and 70 years. These are millions of people unable to work for months or even longer, people who were contributing to growth are now instead dependent on healthcare and welfare, and clearly having a lowered quality of life, both for themselves and their families.
This is largely prevented the fewer people like you a country has.

That would literally send over half the population and tourists in prison every week.

Useless ranking by useless rag. Cambodia scores almost as high as France in health, and Portugal scores 30 points higher for climate than Italy, although they are quite close and at the same latitude. And where is the crime score?
How many Aussies retired in Mexico? Probably less than five.
Well, maybe its because France is infamous for their healthcare issues.
While I think Portugal has better climate than Italy, its not by 30 points. 5-10 perhaps.

Sadly, you are probably right.
I do so wish they'd "engage brain, before operating tongue" but it seems their precious egos require them to have a say regardless.
Of course, we may both be proven wrong....said the optimist! ????
Hopefully it gets better soon, but probably not this year, at least not until the 3rd wave is over and most people have become vaccinated by the end of the year or beginning of next year. I was suppose to go back to Norway last year, but I can`t be bothered with all the hassle of information here and there and all the expenses and whatnot woowoo, and risking not getting back into Thailand.
Good luck.

That would be the best news of all for we travellers wanting to come to Thailand, along with relaxing testing for those of us vaccinated!
I don't often look at https://tna.mcot.net/ - is it considered reliable? Is Gen Natthapon Nakpanich enough of an authority for us to take note, or is he just another "commentator"?
I wouldn`t put my money on it as they all seem to express their thoughts in the media before they`ve discussed it internally, and especially not now considering Europe and the US is being hit by a 3rd wave. At best there might be some relaxation on some Asian countries.

Considering I`ve spent roughly 12-15 million excluding properties and vehicles the past 10 years if my math is correct, 11 million in 14 years (70k/month) seems reasonable, though you`ll probably be fine with 8 million (50k/month) as long as you don`t set yourself up for a family situation.

They got plenty of time. Thailand won't start vaccinating the majority before we're in the middle of wave 32 next decade.

If Thailand want tourism then Thais need to cut the <deleted> and allow foreigners at beaches, hotels/resorts, parks etc and stop with this xenophobia and racist discrimination.
I went on a camping (tent) holiday in Rayong, well it was suppose to be in Chonburi, 6 beaches in Chonburi and Rayong (including a couple of army-owned beaches) refused foreigners entry despite having proof in my passport that I haven't been outside of Thailand for more than 3 years and been living in Udon Thani the entire time.
The government encourage people to holiday and spend money, so we did, driving for 10 hours with the family in the car just to be met with a bunch of woowoo nonsense.
Luckily we were able to find a place after several more hours of driving and asking around, by lying to the security that we had called in advance. But I couldn't go grocery shopping or anything fearing I wouldn't be allowed in again. Ridiculous.

Duped? Come on...
The husband didn't for a moment question why his wife would suddenly go to a poverty stricken African country and just leave her one-year old child?

What about us that has never had a driver`s license in Thailand? A rare occasional small fine is all I`ve been paying for the passed 10 years I`ve been here. Point deduction from what?

Another "news", or information, from Norwegian Health Institute (Folkehelseinstituttet) today on side effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Most common side effects during the following few days after the shot:
- Pain in the region where the vaccine was shot.
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Fever
- Muscle and joint pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhea
Less common side effects (less common than the mRNA vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, among some other less known)):
- Enlarged lymph nodes
- Rash, itchiness
- Sweating
Second dose of AstraZeneca also has less side effects overall than second dose of mRNA vaccines.
EDIT: Source: Dette er bivirkningene (dagbladet.no) (Norwegian language, press conference, Norwegian Health Institute)

Update on the AstraZeneca vaccine from Norway today.
Not only did this vaccine NOT cause deaths among the elderly as falsely claimed in media (also in a previous post on the first page), it may turn out it has very little effect on people over 55 at all.
QuoteÅrsaken til aldersanbefalingen er at AstraZenecas vaksine har lite dokumentasjon for virkning og effekt hos personer over 55 år.
Translation: The reason for the recommendation of age restriction is that the AstraZeneca vaccine has little documented effect on persons over 55 years.
Further reading
Translation: The degree of protection for people over 65 years is unknown/unsure, and it was not possible to calculate the effects for persons over 55. When that is said, it does not mean the vaccine do not have an effect on people over 55 years, it was too few (participants) in the studies, so we don`t know exactly (to) what (degree of) protection (people in this) age group (has).
Also said in the article is that the interval of the first shot is between 3-12 weeks, meaning it takes up to 12 weeks between the two shots required by AstraZeneca, (which is longer than most vaccine candidates). 12 weeks also means the studies so far in Norway are too short and minimal to make any definite conclusion, but as of today the AstraZeneca vaccine is not recommended to people over 65 years and people with severe underlying illnesses and risk of severe Covid-19 infections.
AstraZeneca-vaksinen: - Får øvre aldersgrense (dagbladet.no) (Norwegian language)
-Norwegian Health Institute (Folkehelseinstituttet).
Note: As I mentioned yesterday, the AstraZeneca vaccine was not approved in Switzerland due to lack of data.
Note II: It`s current data (transparency) and honesty we`re talking about here, not definite conclusions or food for conspiracies. While not great news for us here in Thailand, no need to spread disinformation as if it`s complete studies and scientific conclusions. It`s not. Conclusions of these sort of data tend to change a lot, and often drastically.

Didn't the Norwegians come out and say the deaths were unrelated to the vaccine?
They said they're investigating, just like anything in Norway is investigated. Later, data and comments has come out that there's nothing out of the ordinary, but the investigation is still ongoing.

European Super League Mooted , Rejected by EPL
in Football forum
Posted
It's disgusting. I've already removed all future notifications and reminders of upcoming games and news from all these clubs.
I guess you can call it a boycott, and despite being a die hard football fan for 30 years, I'm not even bothered to be honest. If this is how they <deleted> on their supporters, grassroots football, other clubs and the tradition of the sport itself, then <deleted> them.
Football lives on greatly, without them. I'm just expecting and dearly hope FA (from all nations respectively), UEFA and FIFA ban these clubs from all competitions indefinitely, and if possible terminate all contracts these clubs have with players and staff so they can leave on free. If that is possible, and if players and staff don't want to leave then ban them from competing in international competitions.
Same goes to Sky Sports, BT Sport and all other TV networks, if you support these teams by giving them air time, why should I support you when you then become part of the problem? I'm not going to pay my money to you or any of your licenced distributers for you to fund the Super League. Not happening.
