  1. Thanks, i took a taxi from Karon to the new bus station beside super cheap, i got there too late but i seen only 1st class bus from Phuket to Suri Thani for around 200b, but the website says 375 baht for an air conditioned bus. I also asked at another counter and they said only 1st class available from counter 12 and no VIP available. Maybe its another place i need to book VIP or maybe its not available?

If not available i wonder is it possible to hire out a mini bus just for us 3 travelling, the reason is ive had a bad experience previously with lunatic mini bus drivers who are on a schedule and so if i just booked the mini bus for us and told them to drive normal and i wouldnt mind if that added an extra hour to the journey, then we can also maybe relax and enjoy a can or two and have a few piss stops along the way. Any recommend any local minibus services that do this?

  2. Dr Chusak in Kata.

Speaks very good English and is a nice guy.Does not BS you and fill you full of pills

Thanks i read in another forum he is not usually around in low season, do you know the address and what time he opens until?

Really appreciated, one another recommended was Dr. Suritas clinic in Karon but heard its expensive

  3. My girfriend got sever cramps and fainted and went to patong hospital, they put it down to a peptic ulcer and injected her with a painkiller, the painkiller didnt work after 30 mins and she was still in agony and got a stronger painkiller that knocked her out. I asked if they could take blood to check for viruses but they just said it will tell them nothing and they would need an endoscopy but that it didnt warant an emergency. I read online that fainting/low blood pressure is a sign of a bleeding ulcer, the doctors in patpong hospital didnt seem concerned but a couple of months back she also ended up in hospital and they said it was food poisoning but the symptoms were the same although she said the pain felt different. I would like a 2nd opinion in case it gets worse, is there a good english speaking doctor in Phuket we could visit, currently in Karon but can get a taxi, whats the best doctor and if they are closing soon what would the best hospital in Phuket be and what is it likely to cost if she has to be admitted for an endoscopy, rough range €200-400 or significantly higher?

  4. Its a pity, ive made a couple of posts in the Phuket forum and Bangkok forums recently and ive gotten a lot more smart comments than ive had useful answers. This one didnt need a reply it was an FYI for people who have a business, free feedback from a possible customer if you like. Thankfully if you filter out those replies the information other posters give is pretty top notch and helpful. I hope we just leave it here and let the topic back on track, if my post continues to derail then please free to delete it.

  5. I loved Phuket last time i was here which was about 7-8 years ago, was my favourite place to visit, i moved to Chiang Mai end of last year and im spending a few weeks visiting other areas, while i was in Chiang Mai ive met a few people who said stay away for Phuket, some for other reasons but more because of the price of taxi/tuk tuk. I didnt pay much attention because it is a really beautiful place so thought it was your standard differing opinions.

After researching on the net a lot of people said its expensive in Patong and the beach in Karon is nicer, plan was to stay in Karon during the day and visit Patong 1-2 of the nights, taxi/songthaws are costing 400-500 to get from Karon to Patong, i dont mind paying it but i do feel a bit ripped off, maybe thats the going rate but back in Chiang Mai i would only pay 1/2 to 1/4 of that price for a similar distance and its probably more pride than anything. I guess you can expect to pay inflated rates in the hotspots but it doesnt inflate that much in the chiang Mai hotspots but there doesnt seem to be any haggling, even if you walk away they just laugh as they know there is none anywhere nearby, im left with the choice of wandering the streets for 10-20 mins looking for alternatives or pay the extra. Im with an older relative so thats not really an option, if its not essential i would completely avoid going to Patong and stay where i am but even in karon there charging silly amounts to get near the beach for a short distance. I stayed in Bangkok too and even though a bit expensive it was nothing on this level and i had Sky Train or i could work short distance and do more haggling.

Not trying to be negative, if we werent with an older relative id just rent a bike and stay in the centre of patong and this would be a non issue but without more easily accessible ways in and out of Phuket i guess people will be put off visiting as it can get expensive. Im planning to spend another couple of weeks travelling around after my relative returns home, was planning on coming back to Phuket and i might still do, it was 100% originally and now maybe 60 no /40 yes. So the main reason im posting is i really liked Phuket and id love to return but If more hotels/bars offered some sort of reduced transport it might help convince people like me to return again and again and also use your Bar/Hotel, Phuket is a beautiful place and i understand why its more expensive than areas like Chiang Mai but i really feel ripped off by songthaws and taxi's and before my visit i would highly recommend Phuket, i would still recommend it if someone asked me but i would warn stay in a central location or be prepared to be ripped off by taxis/songthaws. Hope this helps and doesnt come off as a rant or being negative, its more a "one mans perspective" of how i see Phuket.

  6. Yes, there is an air-con VIP bus with toilet. Book at the new bus station near the big SuperCheap.

Thanks, i presume i just ask the taxi driver to go to the bus station beside Super Cheap, will that be enough or does anyone know the name of the bus station off hand? Also is there a particular company that does it, my previous experience is a lot of the names are in thai and it might be hard to find the correct one?

  7. I got the sleeper train from bangkok to Sura Thani and when buying it they sold me the bus journey to phuket from there, the bus had no toilet and the air condition was noisy but didn't seem to be working, after 3 hours they eventually made a piss stop after asking them for 2 hours but i was a ball of sweat by the time i got to phuket. So wondering if there is a VIP bus i can get for the way back Phuket > Surithani, im taking the sleeper train back to bangkok from Suri Thaat company think its around 6 or 7pm.

If there isnt a VIP bus is there a first class bus with decent air conditioning and a toilet and if so what company do you recommend? I already have the train tickets bought so taking a bus direct to bangkok isnt really an option.

  8. Went into Irish Times and they are not showing it, any other good sports bars that usually open for the game, i guess the suggestion to walk bangla road might be my best option but if anyone hears of anywhere worth checking out

  9. Thanks guys for the suggestion of Irish Times, looks like a good spot to try. Lost me with the eurovision, gambling, olympics rants so that might be one for the politics forum smile.png suggesting we take away something that lifts the spirits of people during a gloomy period doesn't sound logical or something the majority would want, i would be fine with making them cut back on the expenditure but that could well be the case anyway.

We don't have the best team in Europe, nor the group and experience says its likely well finish bottom of the group since were a small country with a less technical team, the croatia result was disappointing but not that unexpected, if we can at least put in a performance in the last 2 games and it gives us something to shout for then for a few hours then i think that's a good thing. I'm concentrating on enjoying myself for the game and hopefully a bit of an atmosphere if there's a few Irish around and ill leave all the politics to the people who enjoy those discussions. So to all those who like the glass half full i hope we get a good performance and you enjoy the game and if you have any other suggestions or hear of where there is an Irish crowd going i would greatly appreciate it!!!

  10. Ill be staying in Phuket for the next two Irish games, is there many places open for the late games 1:45am, just looking for somewhere with a big screen, english commentary and open late, if there is a spot the Irish tend to gather would be nice for a better atmosphere. I watched the first game in Bangkok and there was about 5 Irish in it and i missed the usual hype and atmosphere i normally get back home so would be nice if anyone has any recommendations.

  11. I watched it in Mulligans on Soi 11, they are open 24 hours and for every game.

Went to Jamesons in Silom first, lovely pub, georgeous food and great pool tables but only a couple of Irish were there so went to Molloy Malones but there was only 2 other Irish there but stayed anyway. Off to Phuket for the other games so hopefully better luck down there, a better result would be nice too!! Thanks to the people who pm'd me too.

  12. Thanks Guys, Gullivers Tavern is showing it too, impressive bar but it lacked atmosphere last night, going to try out Jamesons and Molly Malones for the first match and see if there is an Irish crowd building, if not im going looking for where these guys are clap2.gif

  13. CDB/Cabrinha, would appreciate it if you can drop me a PM also on wheres a good spot to watch it, would much rather the atmosphere if there was a bunch of Irish and dont want to be stuck somewhere watching it on a 14" TV with music blearing in the background so if you know a good spot that will be open let me know, was planning on checking it out tonight to see what the place is like in advance of tomorrows game so if anyone can recommend a good place please PM me.

Also im staying in Silom, has anyone come across somewhere thats selling Irish Jerseys, long shot i know but if you know somewhere let me know

  14. Heading to Bangkok and Phuket during the games, whats the chances of seeing the late 1:45am games in a pub i.e where well be able to hear the commentary on a decent telly or am i likely going to be watching it in my hotel room. Does many of the Thai channels cover these tournaments, i know they dont seem to have the champions league from what i seen probably cause there on at 2am too so wondering if that will be the case with Euro 2012 finals too?

  15. Just spend 2 nights at Paradise Hotel and enjoyed very much. Large room, clean, 40" flat screen TV, tasty buffet breakfast, excellent car parking, good pool, 2 minutes from Central shopping mall. For the money it's excellent value.

There is some work next door with some jack hammering. But not enough to annoy.

    Would I return, absolutely.

2nd time here and agree great value for money if your not budget hunting, also stayed in Centura which was also very nice and great location too but if you want to pamper yourself the Junior suites in Paradise are sweet on the bottom floor, walk out of the dining room into the pool area, nice deck chair directly outside the door and you can chill there and get served food and drinks. Its not a whole lot more for the junior sweet in comparison to the ordinary rooms in Centura depending on the day you book as Centura seemed to more expensive on Monday than it was on Sunday for some reason. Centura is only a couple of mins walk from Paradise also. Internet was excellent in both for Skype calls etc

Centura is better for facilities, Sauna, Spa, Gym etc but Internet was about €10 a day, Paradise have a nice pool and free internet but i dont think they have a spa, sauna or Gym as far as i know but i could be wrong

  16. It is customary for the school to give you the proper filled out and signed forms by the school to take to the Thai Consulate/Embassy outside of the country showing that you are enrolled in their one year course. A paid receipt without the doucuments is useless. If you don't have the documents that the school should have issued to you before exiting the country, you should try to get a double or triple tourist visa, and unfortunately before that visa expires you will have to make another run to a Thai Consulate outside of the country. Once you receive your new visa stamp for one year--you will have to go to the immigration office every 90 days for reporting your address. Don't forget to bring your passport!

Just to clarify, i have all the documents from Pro Language, what i did forget to bring is the receipt to say i paid 20k for the course, is this a big problem?

  17. Im doing a visa run but i couldnt find the receipt to show i paid for the 1 year thai course with Pro Language, im almost certain they said to bring the receipt but its too late as im already on the road.

Is this needed for the visa or just helps if you have it, can i just hand them my phone and ring Pro Language.

I have all the forms for the ed visa completed, 3 photos, my application for the thai consulate in Vietenne filled out, a photocopy of my rental agreement and photocopies of my passport/visa etc

So will i be ok with that?

  18. My girlfiend is in agony from stomach cramps in her lower stomach to point she feels like she is going to get sick but hasnt.

Is there an on call doctor with decent english in Chiang Mai or whats the best hospital to bring her to, whats it like visiting a hospital at this time of night, will she be waiting for hours to be seen?

Any numbers for on call doctor would be great

  20. Hi,

I have flat tyre on my motorbike but im staying out on the canal road and its a long distance to the nearest garage. Since its the front tyre i could probably drive it in but im not sure if that will damage the tyre itself, i imagine it would.

Does anyone know someone that would call out and fix it at my apartment? Obviously it will cost more than if i bring it to the garage but thats fine, hell need reasonable english so i can explain how to get to me (out near 700th stadium) and tell him what the problem is as i dont know thai.

If anyone has a number for someone i would appreciate it

  21. It sounds very like 2 things:

    http://www.duratechpestcontrol.com/carpenter.htm

    or

    http://www.asktheexterminator.com/Beetles/Powder_Post_Beetle.shtml

I actually caught the fcuker kicking out the sawdust today, its hard to see because its a small hole and when it kicks out the sand the sand blocks up the hole while it falls down the door frame but you can see what appears to be legs disappearing back into the hole.

Would a good idea be to plug up the hole with tape until the landlord gets here to take a look or should i spray insect killer into first then plug it up before it escapes and goes elsewhere or in case theres eggs in there and they start hatching

From what i read termites eat the wood but the above 2 dont, they seem to be drilling and pushing out the fine sawdust.
