  1. Unfortunately, Phuket's beloved Soi Dog Foundation won't do anything to help you and neither will PAWS...both organizations are a joke. Go to the vet on Soi Saiyuan...new building on the left with a sign that says her name. Ask her if she knows anyone who can help...I heard from another source she has the number of a man who will come and remove the dogs and not poison, club or kill them. Good luck!

Care to elaborate on why you believe Soi Dogs and PAWS to be a 'joke'? Not flaming, just interested.

As to the vet on Sai Yuan who has the number of a man who 'will come and remove the dogs'. If not poison or club, what? Where does he take them?

  2. prob me, i hit a farang's bike on the bypass few months ago when he wasnt in the shoulder and i was trying to pass someone by the left lane because he was going 40 in the right lane as they always do

Tanuki. Drive faster or further left and if you see an obstacle then stop and wait for cars to pass you if you're a slow driver. If you'Re trying to do a uturn on the right side of the road, wait untill you are next to the uturn lane before switching from the shoulder to the middle lanes instead of pissing off everyone driving at 30kph in the fast lane.

If you follow those simple rules, you wont ever be too close to a moving car.

Did you deliberately hit the motorcycle because he wasn't riding to your standards and he pissed you off, or because of your poor driving skills? I hope you stopped and explained your rules to him as he was on your road..

Next thing you the Aussie Boyh will be asking if you still beat your wife!

Cut the sarcasm. Aussiebrain's point is a very valid one.

  3. Power of Attorneys should most definitely be done away with here regarding anything to do with land/property ownership. Too easily forged by some backstreet lawyer for a couple of thousand baht. Happens everywhere on Phuket, Thais and farang alike.

If these property owners are 'too busy'/idle to attend a face to face with the local Government Department responsible, then they have no business owning property here in the Land of Massive and Endemic Corruption. Hell with them.

  4. does that give the tourists right to give bad stares at farang/thai couples when they go out

They are just regretting that they brought their wife along on the holiday.

Don't bring a bag lunch to a buffet.

Particularly if you want intelligent conversation.

  5. I think one of the biggest problems at the moment is trying to find somewhere to stay. i for one book to stay in pattaya every new year and have done for the past 12 years..this year everywhere is completely booked up by thai's from Bangkok..lucky for me i have family with a condo but if not i would have had to chose a trip to another country...that's why tourism is down coz you cannot get anywhere to stay

No that's NOT why 'tourism is down' in LOL, Pattaya. Pattaya, being the closest 'retreat' from the ongoing parts of the metropolis that are still flooded. Try Phuket (too far). There's no one here. Thank Buddha.

  6. Back to the point, there are plenty of legit bike rental sources, just stay away from Patong or the other tourists traps and dont pay over 3-4 k per month.

And none of them insure their bikes, expecting the 'farang' to pay (or else) if an accident is caused by either yourself or the other party. Particularly if said other party is Thai.

  7. Some Happy hour.Whoopee 45 bht for Tiger daft.A full 5 bht cheaper than most bars

Wonder if the plastic S.A.S brigade are going to be there.

Still a lot cheaper than the Drift Inn at 60 baht for Tiger and a whopping 100 baht for a small Singha. Plus, no Happy Hour.

  8. As a pedestrian I deserve the right to walk a soi unencumbered by the obstuctions others erect as part of their business. I should not have to step over God knows what to avoid this and that just get from point A to point B. , tear that mess down. I care less what you put up because you are stupid enough to believe that my right of way is your property.

So you not too keen on the many motorbikes/cars parked on pavements everywhere here then. "I deserve the right'. Yeah. Who and where do you think you are?

By the way, Sathorn and Silom boring as f*** now the vendors've been given the boot from the lower ends of both roads. If I'd want pristine I'd've moved to Austria, or Switzerland.

  9. B) I just had to reply to this post. I spent 2 1/2 months in BKK on a job on Sukumvit in 2009. I used to stop off a little street food stand some evenings ang get a Pad Kapaow Gai. I noticed there were two signs one in Thai and one in English. I don't read Thai but was able to figure out that it was the same menu with one "Thai" price and another higher price in "English". One night while waiting for my food I asked in Thai nlanguage there was one price for Thai's and another for Falangs. Eventually a girl who was waiting for her food eventually said "Ka" meaning yes. Then they commented that I was Gaeng smart in Thai. I laughed it off and still paid the Farang price.

My Thai wife later came and joined me from the US. When she asked the girl the same question she said that she makes the food bigger for the Farang and charges more. We joked a bit about it and after that I was always charged the Thai price.

I am not surprised one bit to hear this and absolutely believe it. I was back in BKK at the same area last summer in June. Attitudes have certaily changed and the vendors and everyone else has gotten in on charging the Farangs more. This is nothing new but has just been brought to a new level. Thailand has grown and modernized greatly in the last few years and everyone wants a piecr of the pie. I can understand that inflation has increased prices, but this is at the prices at a restaraunt or even some hotels for Thai food. Last summer we ate quite a bit at the food court in the basement of Robinsons at soi 19 where the prices are set. This new attitude is why I am glad that we left Thailand in 2007. I am sure that many casual tourist have no problem paying 150 baht for a Pad Kapaow on the street.

Sometimes on this forum I feel as though I'm living in a parallel Thai universe to a lot of the posters here. First you intimate you asked for the food in Thai, so that would negate a lot of the 'just off the plane' perception of you from the vendor. I spent six months in down town Bangkok last year and always eat Thai streetside. Wherever I ended up for lunch in my daily wanderings I was always charged the Thai (correct) price, even though I was mostly the only white customer. Yes I would ask in Thai, but even when I was fresh off the boat and couldn't speak a word of it I was never charged 150 baht from a Thai streetside?! Watered down Thai slop for the tourists in Phuket/Kao Lak etc, but never a pavement caff or even an indoor one specifically catering to Thais (no English menu, in fact, most had no menus).

I have noticed a LOT of gouging 'due to the floods' here on Phuket?!, but have been here long enough to just tell them 'mai ow' and move on.

  10. Ahhhhhhhhwwww....will they not be making 10 Gazillion Dollars profit next year but only 9,5 due to the massive raise in wages?

    It's really time to relocate!

Is there a place, where minimum wages are below 150 THB?

Where we can trample on the environment a little more, for less bribe money, so the "inspectors" look the other way?

Are there swampy wetlands elsewhere, where a flood normally runs out and just vanishes into the ground, that we could build a massive concrete structure on...and complain, if we get flooded again...although we bought the place for a handful of cash, got taxes lowered and...and...and...

If there is a parallel universe, these greedy b@stards would be hanging from a tree by their b@lls.

+ 1. Money grabbing bastards. So they don't pay the going rate for their home grown workforce, they've tried Thailand, where next? Can't be China, they'd have already gone there. Must be looking at slave driving the Khmers or the Burmese. Laos?

One day everyone will have a decent living wage. Where all these Ass*holes going to go then?

This was all started by the West. Predominantly the US. Who are now fckd.

  11. Gas powered guns, mace, tazers, knuckle dusters, batons, x-bows, flick knives.

I think of it more like a home security/car accessory shopjap.gif

A shop that supplies goods to hunt humans :D

Excellent! A cull of many of the 'humans' here dam_n site better than further depletion of what's left of the wildlife.

Patong has everything I need for this purpose anyway. Central? Pah ... !

  12. There is only one site to look on. Not fully focussing on dating between Thai and farang, but its a global site with users all over the world and most functions are free to use.

    I am talking about badoo.com ;)

    Uh,yah. And it's a scam/phishing site. 'BartPattaya' - '11 posts' LOL!

ps: If you wouldn't resort to online 'dating' in your home countries, why on earth here?!

    Get out more.

  13. After a very little thought I think they should change their name to 0/10 which is fair reflection of their service that I encounter although to be fair sometimes it does up to 2 but it is better to over achief that to under achief so nought out of ten it must be 0/10.

Now I am off to the MUM and DADs shop because not only is the service better, the beer is all 2 or 3 bts cheaper.:partytime2:

NOT here on Phuket it isn't.

  14. The ding dong door is irritating. Temperature too low. Chocolate is disgusting.

I've found the chocolate to be less appealing than those I generally found in the US. I happened to notice on the Kit Kat, for example, that the formula was changed to make the chocolates more melt resistent for hot, tropical countries. Perhaps it's just personal preference, but I find most of the chocolate for the Thai/Malaysian market to be pretty crappy.

Most of that Godawful 'chocolate' IS from the US. Hersheys, yuk.

  15. Most of the staff are women.

    That eliminates allot of problems.

I have been in business here and would never hire a Thai guy for anything.

What an incredibly stupid remark. Firstly, I would say that half of 7/11 staff here on Phuket are men and incredibly helpful. I have also found male Thai staff capable and helpful in any capacity.

I'm sure Thai men will be crying over a sexist/racist such as yourself would not hire any of them.

  16. Most normal people don't have 5 million in cash too at home.

Besides mob-bosses and others involved in shady dealings.

Let's not forget that Yingluck said she had Bt13 Million in cash on her asset declaration.

    http://www.thaivisa....set+declaration

Well, Yes, but is it 'stashed' in her house? If in a bank, it could of course be verified for tax purposes AND subject to 'investigation', but we all KNOW why she came to be 'unusually wealthy'. If in her home, likely blatantly 'ill gotten gains'.

But this guy's a crook, (kept in house, not 'declared'), same as the rest of them. Doesn't take much figuring out does it.

If you look at the asset declaration, you'll see many more millions declared in various types of bank accounts. This was listed as "cash." Of course, it doesn't mean it's kept in her house. But I don't think it would fit in her handbag... that would be a lot of "walking-around" money.

I didn't meant to imply Yingluck's cash being kept in bank accounts more legit than this guy keeping it in his house. Everyone KNOWS Yingluck = Shinawatra = Extraordinarily Wealthy. But who is this guy's family? And why did he keep that amount of cash in his home? And how did the burglars know ...

  17. This government is trying to legalise corruption or, at least, make it an unpunishable offence. Seriously.

When was the last time a politician (or any government figure/employee come to that) hauled before a Court (barring the bought out Shinawatras), for 'corruption'? Any of them serving a prison sentence? Thus corruption already legal by default.

And the other lot wouldn't have done any different.

As to the PAD, the PTP knows they'll demonstrate, so what deal' will be/has been struck with Abhisit?

  19. What's amusing are the instances of folks blowing up at waitstaff and sometimes yelling out to the cook in the back kitchen BEFORE their food is served. Have seen way to many disgusting things happen in the kitchen in restaurants to ever be abusive towards these folks.

When we were at uni my friend got a part time job at Pizza Hut in Norwich, England. All I can say is if there was the slightest chance you ate there circa 1986 I certainly hope if you complained you were polite about it. :D

Working in hospitality in Bangkok on occasion I had the chance to witness a few breakdowns. Once in the restaurant two westerners were being offered the menus and as the waiter presented the wine menu this boorish oaf (fat, sweaty bald bastard wearing, of all things, a cravat) boomed out "DID I ASK FOR THE WINE MENU BOY? DID I? DID ? DID I?" until the whole restaurant was looking at him.

Another time at the front desk a bloke was checking in with his Thai wife and, on being asked to present a credit card as a guarantee, went off at the deep end. I went over to assist as he could be heard across the entire lobby. He shouted " I've stayed in every 5 star hotel in the world and nobody has ever asked for my credit card!" As I commenced to politely explain our policy he grabbed his bags from the bellboy and stormed out with his wife trailing along behind.

I have to admire front line staff in hotels. The <deleted> they have to put up with sometimes for a pretty basic salary.

Was that the one on Tombland?

I wouldn't leave my credit card as a 'guarantee' here either. But I wouldn't throw a fit over it. I'd simply make a sharp exit.

  20. Gmail no Problem all day on ToT and CAT, Pattaya Central

Lucky old Pattaya Central. I'm on TOT and everything else loads bar these two sites. First time it's happened to me here on Phuket with Gmail, but have had slow loading frequently with Twitter.

So, anyone else on Phuket? I assume we share a Bangkok server?
