  1. Well on another note a friend of are's moved in there and another friend of mine and myself went over to visit him. I will say it was a good size room but nothing spectacular about it. Definable needed remodeling. As you say the pool was a waste. Probably no money to fix it or maintain it. Not surprised as many tenants fail to pay there fees. No chance of remodeling it with no money.

To get back to the subject on a different point of view. We both took are Thai wives with us. After we left the building both the wives informed us that the elevator was haunted.

You mean people or person have/has died in th elevator???!!! How did they conclude it was haunted-they could 'feel' something or they had heard a story before?

Maybe it just needs one of those anti-spirit things hanging up?

Isnt the thai word for spirit Pee? Possible someone Pee'd in the elevator after a night out?

I have no idea how they came to that conclusion. Both my friend and I are smart enough to let them believe what they are going to believe.

Maybe some one did pee in it. the building strikes me as one that would attract some people like that. On the bright side it is close to Sunis (not sure on the spelling) restaurant.

    edit

Spelling other words wrong also. spelling and remembering to use my spell check are not my strong points.

Besides it dosen't always work rite.

Thanks...........never knew about the lifts being haunted.

It's .......'Sunee's' I think. She's recently remodelled her place slightly, and food as good as always. But just don't upset her!!

    Cheers for all replies.

  2. Thanks for the replies so far.

It's not a troll post - simply looking for more information about the building and it's history.

Not so sure it needs demolished - imo it just needs some money spend improving the general condition. I believe the committee recently looked into repainting the whole building, but the costs were prohibitive.

I have been in many spectacular appartments there and know many people who rent and are happy enough. Plenty have been bought and sold over the past year too, so there is sales activity here.

Thank you all for your contributions.

  3. Hello

I am contemplating buying a Condo in this complex, and would appreciate any advice. How much should I be paying per square metre? Do prices increase as you get higher up?

I have looked at a few here over the past few months, but as yet have not 'taken the plunge'.

It's an area and a Soi that I like (soi 2, Thapae Road), but the building itself is so shabby, and the lifts seem to be in poor condition. I am also aware of historic problems of many owners not contributing to the common service charges. And the pool!!!.....what a waste of an asset.

Any information or insights would be appreciated. Anything PM'd will be treated in confidence.

    Many thanks.

  4. Dondorondo now you've told us where not to go where do you recommend. As I don't know Indian food too well I have no answer for the OP myself. Anyone else have an opinion on Taj Mahal?

I've been to quite a few Indian restaurants in Chiang Mai, and Taj Mahal is now the one I'm happy to return to.

Whilst the food isn't on a par with my favourites in the UK, it's a decent option. The chicken tikka massala was a disappointment, but all the other dishes I've tasted have all been pretty good.

The portions are very reasonable, and the nan bread is fantastic.

A couple of minor downsides - the decor is too basic and dosent do the place justice, and the beer is overpriced at circa 115/120 for a large chang. Also the restaurant is quiet whenever I visit - I hope they are doing ok.

I'm no expert food critic, but I know what I like, and I like the Taj Mahal.

  5. I had to get tested for a whole host of things back in March - a pretty extensive list. Hiv was included in the test. I had to sign a consent form prior to testing.

I used the Loi Kroh Clinic, Loi Kroh Rd oviously (ironically?).

Anyway, I got samples taken one day, and the results the next day.

From memory it was about 1,100 baht, but I had a lot done. A simple HIV only will be a lot less.

As previous poster said after one month is only about 97% ish, after 3 months is about 99% ish. To be sure you need to wait longer.

LK Clinic is on RHS, just after the Police Box on the LHS. It's a busy, but well run, efficient operation.

  6. Jackie..................

just a couple of things from me.

Re the TEFL..............SEEtefl has a very good reputation. I did mine at CMU, but wouldn't recommend there.

Cost is about 800 to 900 quid.

I only teach a few hours a week, at 250 per hour, but the preparation and lesson planning takes me longer, so I effectively work for 125 baht an hour. And then there is running around printing off worksheets and making up homework etc..........all takes up your time and money. I teach two motivated mature ladies and enjoy it otherwise I probably wouldn't bother.

The preference is for young native speaking female teachers.

I've been told you need to work at least 16 hrs a week to apply for a work permit - maybe true, maybe not.

Without being condescending, it's one thing speaking English, it's another thing teaching it. All the 12 tenses, regular/irregular verbs etc. Not easy!

All that said, it can be a rich and rewarding experience, and I'd recommend anyone to give it a try.

As said previously the ASEAN thing should open up a lot more opportunities.

    Good luck to you.

  7. SP Chicken, on the South wall of Wat Prah Singh is very good. Shuts early though (about 9ish from memory). Yellow sign outside.

Not 100% sure if it's charcoaled - one of those slow spinning rotisserie things.

  8. What time is he playing these days . I have always wanted to see him but, never seemed to show up the times I went. Also, boys blue bar in the night bizzarr very good.

I sometimes go to the Monday night 'jam' session at Boy Blus Bar.

Went last night and it was simply tremendous.

Not normally a fan of blues music too.

  9. I dont qualify for retirement either.

I'm doing Ed Visa at Pantip Plaza.......21,000 baht, plus two lots of 1,900 at CM Immigration to come.

    Really enjoy the course.

Like someone else said you'll get a double entry at Laos which I believe you can extend to effectively make it a six month visa, leaving the country after 90 odd days if you extend both segments at CM Immigration (I think!!)

    Chok dii.

  10. Hi - I have Ed Visa, and am at Easy Study Thai, 3rd floor, Pantip Plaza.

I paid 21,000, filled in some forms, and they called me a few weeks later to say all ok - all I had to do was hand in Embassy in Laos and collect next day.

I will have to pay a further 1,900 after 90 days, then a further 1,900 after a further 90 days - I believe I will then get a final 6 months, taking me upto the year.

Really enjoy my classes - only 7 of us and an excellent teacher. Overall very happy with Easy Study Thai.

  11. Hello - looking for any advice re getting a work permit from a school, in return for 4hrs to say 10hrs a week voluntary English teaching.

I have heard such a system exists but cannot find any details on the Visa / WP forum, and I'm looking specifically for schools in the central CM area who may be interested in such an offer.

I have just completed the TEFL at CMU ,and have a BA degree, but as yet no teaching experience, just to clarify my situation.

    Any advice gratefully received.
