  1. I can see the whole red and white curb zone from my condo. Not a single vehicle parked there now.

Didn't last long. Food cart already set-up (sorry for the fuzzy pic, but was taken from a distance and I had to crop down). Otherwise, three clear lanes all the way to the curve. Could be four, if they would open up that inside lane.

  2. I opened two accounts (savings and direct deposit) at Bangkok Bank in Pattaya with a one year extension. But, I never saw them look at any page in my passport except the picture page. Also, that was the only page they made a copy of.

I do a monthly direct deposit from my U.S. Govt. annuity through the NY Bangkok Bank branch. They charge me the fees as depicted in Pib's post (#13). I do, however, have to physically go to the bank and transfer the money into my savings account so that it is available for ATM transactions. That's a painless process because I hand the two bank books to the bank agent, tell her the amount, and she fills out all the paperwork. Takes maybe 5 minutes.

  3. Took a walk for the first time to the Pattaya lighthouse today. Maybe this has been covered before, but what's the deal with the Pattaya Marina? Looks like fairly new floating docks but nobody seems to be using it. Is this a project that ran out of money? If developed correctly, the land in that area could be extremely valuable. Unfortunately, it has to be one of the most polluted pieces of land on earth. The smell of oil and gas is overwhelming. For you ex-military, I felt I should have been in MOPP 4 going into that area.

Anyway, just curious about the marina.

  4. I obtained an income letter in March during the U.S. Embassy Outreach Program here in Pattaya. The letter is a template (see attached) that you fill out, sign, and hand to the embassy staff and they notorize it. They did not ask for any proof of income. You could fill in any amount, but the Pattaya Immigration Office asked me for copies of all my local bank book pages to show proof of income into Thailand. They did this even though I was only using income and not a combination of income and bank deposits as justification for a retirement extension of stay. Some have reported that they sometimes require a bank letter in addition to the bank book copies. They did not in my case. It is best to go there prepared.

  5. Reference my post # 26 above. I received a one year car driving license today and they only required the documents listed below. All other documents were handed back to me.

Copies of passport ID page and visa extension of stay page

    Certificate of Residency

    Medical Certificate

Copy of International Driving Permit (IDP)

You must also have your actual passport and IDP with you.

The cost was 205 baht and took about three hours to complete because the office was very crowded today (probably because it's Friday).
