  1. Hi,

I know sometimes you can't translate the sentence as it is in English, and using TUK or DON in a passive with question, together with Gamlang" looks to me not perfect. Here are two sentences which I would like to hear what do you think about the best translation should be:

"The man is being bitten by the dog ?"

"The child is being kissed by his mother ?"

    Thank you all

  2. Johpa, I understand your point, but surely there must be a Thai word which is the exact translation for "Insist". Sometimes it is very important to really insist, or you will not be sure if your demand is taken seriously.

    Thanks

  3. คะยั้นคะยอ -

Meaning: urge; exhort; coax; cajole; wheedle

Do I use ขยันขยอ to say sentence like:

    "I insist that you come"

    "I don't insist about it"

i think it's ok for me

I'm a bit confused here. All the words above (urge; exhort; coax; cajole; wheedle) are not as strong as "Insist". Or maybe I should use another Thai word for "Insist" ?

    Thanks

  4. ปลาดุก bplaa dùk = freshwater catfish (Siluridae)

ปลากด bplaa kòd = catfish (Tachysurus)

    Thanks a lot :o

BTW, is there any web site that gives lists (Thai and English) of food items like fish, fruits, vegetables, and so on ?

Listening to Thai is one of the better ways to learn how to speak Thai. You may want to try "SpokenThai" software which has thousands of audio sentences (and a dictionary).

Here is the web link to read about it:

    Spoken Thai

    Good luck

  6. Hi,

We want to go for few days to Luang Prabang by boat, probably from Chiang Saen. Anyone who made this boat trip please supply some information, best company, price, where to book in Chiang Mai, tips and any important thing we have to know.

    Thank you

  7. 1. Get a license from the author.

    2. Make HTML, RTF (or other text format) files.

    3. Compile to exe with a free or shareware compiler.

2a. You can scan pages and use the images to make a slideshow or put images in HTML pages.

I assume the publisher has already the book in a digital format so you can ask the publisher if he sells ebooks

  8. Thanks.

As I understand I can get permanent resident status after three years of retirement visa. I have few questions:

    1) While staying in Thailand on a tourist visa can I ask for retirement visa and is it easier than to ask in my country ?

    2) If it is possible (1) do I need the same documents issued in my country (police clearence, health certifucate and bank certificate) ?

    3) Can this be done in Chiang Mai too or only in Bangkok ?

    Thanks

  9. Hi to all experts,

I would like to know what is the best visa type for someone who wants to live forever in Thailand. From reading this forum it seems that marriage (support a wife) and retirement visa are long term visas. My main questions are:

    1) What happens if your Thai wife dies before you, which means you stop to support her ? Do you have to leave the country ?

    2) Do you have to renew your retirement visa each year or only for three years, and what type of visa you get after three years ?

    3) What is your best suggestion to ensure I can live in Thailand for all my life ?

    Thank you

  10. Johpa

You are right. This is of course depends what each one is looking for. Most people I know simply want to be able to speak and read in a reasonable level. Other take it more seriously, especially if they are still young and working in a company in Thailand.

(By the way, I posted in the wrong thread but there is no way to move my post.)

  11. Isn't this the reason why IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) was developed? :o

I have at least dozen of books, each uses its own phonetic system. International Phonetic Alphabet is not followed by everyone and is not always the easiest way to learn a language. In my opinion language should be learnt by listening, especially Thai, which is very problematic in translation.
