  1. when i was down there a few months ago was talking with an expat in a restaurant. He lives there an pays 4,000 baht for a 2 bedroom house out of town,

says it gets very boring thou. :-)

but nice an close to malaysia

my wife is from Satun. Just showed her this post and she agreed with it. Said you can get a decent 2 bed house for cheaper than 4000 though.

  2. Good spot, E. Blair.

It is more of this kind of uncensored information that the public needs, not the TAT-advert pictures of pristine Indonesian beaches purporting to be Phuket.

Actually one of the ads from last year was Boracay supposed to be Phuket. My friend sent me the link as you could clearly see his house in the backgroundcheesy.gif I stayed in that house and recognised it straight away. What a joke, are they really that ashamed of what they have done to Phuket, they need to use other countries to advertise it?...

  3. Its not a maximum of ฿2000 its 500 per day with a maximum of ฿20,000. Dont start ripping pages out of your passport, that is a serious offense which will land you in more trouble than a ฿20,000 fine. Go to your immi office and get it done. Otherwise pay the fine on departure. If you get caught for any reason by the police. In your current state you'll be arrested etc.

  4. Lets face it every time their is a fatality from an upper floor of a condominium their always seems to be either a wife, or girl friend that is also in the room when the incident happens.

The police need to smarten up and investigate these incidents completely.

Why do the police need to smarten up? How would the police benefit? This is Thailand... If there is no money in it for the, why would they do it???

  5. Land based fishing, the only thing you are likely to catch is a cold

Tried a few different areas and caught nothing, Phuket is fished out most fish sold here come from Ranong

Agree with this. I tried nearly every headland on the island, N,S,E,W. Never caught a thing. Locals also agree it's a waste of time unless your squid fishing.

Anyone had a different experience to this?

  6. have you since bought your own set of jumper cables ?

Not sure if this question was to me. However, Toyota supplied a case with the car, containing several items to help for a breakdown. Among them are a tow rope, triangular warning signs and a set of jumper leads.

The wife had the case safely packed away in the store room at home!

How come i never got one of those? Did my ฿1,000,000 not cover that?angry.png

  7. she don't have friends? plenty of thai style apartments for 2k a month without aircon in mai khao area..drive around and you will find..

She doesn't start working there until next month so no, no friends up there yet. Anyway she's looking for something with AC. I presume from your post you can't help with a website or building recommendation?saai.gif

  8. My girlfriend works in Mai khao. She's looking for a cheap Thai style apartment. Anywhere between Mai Khao and the monument would be great.

Budget is upto 6k per month. Any recommendations of websites which list these kind of Thai style apartment buildings.

    Thanks

  9. The DOWNUNDER PUB is a very good bar/sports bar that shows racing/matches etc, and serves good "pub grub".On the right hand side of Loi Kroh road just before the "Iron Bridge"/Ping River. Always a friendly welcome and a good mix of people.Owner = Stewart.

Just follow loi Kroh over Chang Klan road? Past BK on your left etc?

  10. what is certifiably insane? that people say stupid things or that people of similar interests congregate together?

Because the artsy types tend to be living in their own world and many are flat-out nuts.

There is a town about 75 miles S. of me called Mount Shasta. It is at the base of Mount Shasta which is about 14,000 feet (4300 meters) tall. It is in the same mountain range (The Cascade Mountains) as Mount St. Helens which you may recall blew it's stack sometime back. These are all active but dormant volcanoes.

The artsy nuts have taken over that town and it has become a tourist stop of shoppers of such things.

Not long ago the mountain had a small earthquake from it's molten core, and the mayor said that the mountain was saying it was unhappy that people were polluting the planet.

    Now that's certifiably insane.

And that's going to happen in Chiang Mai is it?

Doi Suthep is going to erupt?w00t.gif

  11. Maybe I am missing something but I think most people would fly to Udon Thani with Nok Air then take the van to the border (45 minute ride.) I've been told that the lowest hotel rates with Agoda can be booked just before you plan to arrive, so the day before.

Your not missing anything. We all do it the same way. This is the only way cheaper than the prices OP mentions. Take it or leave it. Job.... End of.coffee1.gif
