  1. I see the BIB all over these days, and many times farang tourists wearing helmets have been pulled over. I assume they nail them for no license?

Yep got pulled over the other day I had my helmet on nothing illegal done just pulled over at one of those where they jump out in front of you

I did not have my license on me so had to pay no big deal but targeted for sure.

Did you pay cash there and then or at the station? How much did you pay?

  2. Update from the gazette:

Police not sure whether to sack him or not...

Phuket Police are considering discharging a police officer who shot dead a Soi Bangla bar worker on December 26.

The 35-year-old Patong Police officer, Sgt Pongsakorn Treeyuth, was off duty and allegedly drunk when he held an 11mm handgun to the head of Sawitree Kaewin, 27.

“We received an order from the Royal Thai Police in Bangkok late last month to investigate the case, and consider what action to take against Sgt Pongsakorn,” said Patong Police Investigator Jirasak Boonsang.

“He has been suspended from duty, but it has yet to be decided whether or not he will be kicked off the force,” Capt Jirasak said. “At this point in the investigation, we believe that it was not murder.”

According to witness statements, the magazine was removed from the gun before Sgt Pongsakorn showed Ms Sawitree how a person could be held from behind with a gun pointed at his or her head. It appeared that Sgt Pongsakorn forgot to check the chamber for bullets, Capt Jirasak stated.

“Three people who know both Sgt Pongsakorn and Ms Sawitree were drinking at a table nearby on the night of the incident. They told us that Sgt Pongsakorn and Ms Sawitree were friends and that there were no signs of an argument that night,” Capt Jirasak said.

“The only thing they saw after the sound of the gun firing was Ms Sawitree slumped over the table and a gunshot wound on Sgt Pongsakorn’s hand,” he said.

The police later questioned Sgt Pongsakorn.

“He told us that he was very drunk and claimed he could not remember what happened that night,” said Capt Jirasak.

The Patong Police still need to collect more evidence before handing the case over to the public prosecutor, as dismissing an officer is not something to be taken lightly, Capt Jirasak explained.

Patong Police have charged Sgt Pongsakorn with murder. However, Capt Jirasak said the charge may be changed before the case is handed over to the public prosecutor.

  3. Looks like security guards or possibly border police but not sure. It didn't look like a school uniform the kid/guy on the bike was wearing either.

The title is roughly "New clip, what are you doing student?" Plus all the comments from Thai's talk about what the "Student" did or didn't do...

  4. Is everbody convinced that these are cops?

I doubt it. Looks like some "guards men" to me.

    No helmelt, white belt (?).

I tried to find something in the Thai comments with no avail.

...... looks like security guards/uniformed thugs to me.

A real Thai policeman would have just applied a 'fine'.

Yes unless he back chatted them, therefore causing a loss of face!ohmy.png

  5. Some do take the piss with price. I understand inflated quotes if off the beat and track or put the way of their normal route... But some prices are daft. As I said play then off each other and the price goes down for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Do you mean off the beaten track? Sounds similar though lol

  6. I've been told that going from Chiang Mai to Pai by motorcycle is the way to go.I will need to go visit it at least one time.

.....Yes, riding is always fun on those mountain roads...But,the stretch of road from CM to MHS border is falling apart and full of pot holes in many places. Onward from Pai to MHS the roads are very good. A bike of 250cc or up is recommended.

Forget the 250cc. Minor pot holes in bitumen road. I did it a couple of years ago on a click 110. Wasn't an issue. Done much much tougher rides than that in Columbia, Bolivia etc blah blah blah on small bikes. It's an easy ride on any size scooter or bicycle for that matter.

  7. wouldnt be surprized if it is the truth but it just goes to show how much of it is going into peoples pockets/bank accounts as it is certainly not getting through to the schools. Like most financial deals in this country the people suffer as the top dogs get to pocket most of the money, another reason Thailand needs to have honest government and open financial policies so the people can see exactly where akll this money is going..

I think so many of us find it easy to lay much blame with government. But, I think we fail to acknowledge that the core problem is with the entire society. The politicians are but a reflection of the nation's character.

When one puts all the big stats together, a rather embarrassing and grim picture of Thai society becomes clear.

    It's a complete mess.

Well said. I think the point is not all but many, Thai's in Thailand are corrupt. Thai politicians are corrupt, well yes they're also Thai. Thai's will always steal from they're own people. It's well driven into the culture. Anyone see that changing, ever?
