Is this for the staff only? Or is it new? I have been through Mor Chit literally hundreds of times and have never gone through a metal detector. Albeit last time was about 3 months ago.

The third floor hasn't had a detector there all the time but the ground floor has. Security up top was lacklustre as they are harmless north eastern folk.

Good luck sealing the back door to morchit,  how will they screen all the arrivals by mini van or bus?

Yes its a no brainer. Night time entertainment is the lifeblood of this area, young people on holiday do not go out until very late evening, so 3am - 4am is a sensible closing time.  p.s. I am not a teenager, i am in my 80's so would not use it myself, but young people  will and do.

Based on what? 5% of the tourists. Don't see many Chinese at these hrs. The only way the Junta will allow longer opening hrs is if a number of bars can make a business case for it. I'm sure the numbers decline significantly after 2am anyway.

If I was the victim of bad driving/ riding I wouldn't let them anywhere near it until I had a back up copy, as mentioned by a previous poster. I think the first thing I would do if I ad an accident (after checking everybody was okay) would be to quickly take the dash cam down and put it in the glove box.

Good advice this. Best to power down the dash cam normally. The other trick is to give the cam a light tap since most are programmed by default to record individual files in another folder each time a certain amount of G's are exceeded. Usually the last 3 min of footage is quarantined in its own folder. The other advice is to check it actually records the reliability of sd cards and the dash cams is poor. Top dollar doesn't always guarantee the cam will last forever.

An android phone (>v3) with a OTG cable and memory card reader can back up an entire sd card (32g) in 10 min on the spot if the cops demand it be passed over at the time of the accident, maybe not practical but can be done.

  4. If the money went to cleaning the environment and improving facilities like toilets then wouldn't be so bad but when I was on phi phi and maya last week all you see is guards ready to take the money and sub standard toilets rubbish on the beach etc. Doing the maths on arrivals even at 200b per person you could employ an army of workers to clean up and improve facilities. For my money railay beach near ao Nang is just as good as these islands without the 400b fee.

I don't know about a slow down? Last week and 3 months ago when I went to maya Bay it was packed with tourists but it is the high season.

I hope they will bring the music volume level a bit down of these joints same as they did in walking street Pattaya.

Yes agreed the volume along walking Street in Patong is ridiculous compared to Pattaya. Obviously the bars are competing for customers by increasing the volume.  Turn it down to 40db at midnight and lights out at 2am...easy.

  6. In addition to condoms Prep and pep are viable options. Prep is about $20 per day and falling.  Pep is good for up do 72 hrs.  Not sure on the availability of these drugs in Thailand but the day will come soon. Also copies of these drugs may only be months away if not already. There are side effects with these drugs but there use as a temporary measure to possible hiv exposure may be justified.
