  1. I have no idea where the writers of this article got their intel from, but I sure hope it is all BS. Our business does not need another disruption like the red shirt protesets or new floods. We are in the entertainment business, we don't need more trouble dammit.
    You own a bar?
    No. Event management.

    aha coyote troupe.

  2. What Thailand sorely needs is an independent agency like the FBI, staffed by incorruptible officers that have all-encompassing powers to investigate and if necessary prosecute their peers. Problem is, where would one recruit such agents in a system that is rotten through and through? Perhaps even more importantly, how many of these agents would be able to maintain their integrity when bestowed with so much power?

Thailand already has the equivalent of the FBI. It's called the DSI (Department of Special Investigation), supposedly staffed by police with morals and integrity, Their pay is supposedly 5 - 10 times that of regular police.

Unfortunately, from my observations, they are not powerful enough to deal with organised activities within the criminal community, and regular police, and only end up with enough cases hand-balled their way to make quotas.

Not the equivalent of the FBI then is it? duh

  3. Does that include the flooding of rubbish piles in the roadways now too which are the second stage of the "flood". It took only 2 days to finally clear the 10 foot high trash piles from the south bound lanes that had completely blocked it off from traffic and all along the north bound lanes for at least a mile where it was down to only 2 lanes in both directions. Before that what had hardly even moved in 2 weeks disappeared once they had a press conference on Srong Bra Pa Rd. to clear

But now there has been no local trash pickup though the roads have been dry for weeks now and I am once again almost locked in by the trash mountain that has erupted on 2 streets that enter my moo ban and now only one lane barely wide enough for a car to pass but not without running over broken glass and all sorts of other tire destroying debris.

Get of your ASS Bangkok politicians, get on this, it's well past time :annoyed: it's not like you didn't have plenty of time to plan..

Is any of that trash yours?

Tell you what, rent a few pickups, mobilize a few mo'cyce taxi drivers and arrange to clear it yourself, be constructive, don't be negative, do something useful, you will be rewarded.

  4. Didn't they already say a few weeks ago that the flooding would be gone by the end of November? If I'm not mistaken, they even gave a date.

Nope, you are mistaken or confused or both.

What is it with you guys? Why slag her off all the time, she kept inner BKK dry which of course was of utmost importance.

It would have been a calamity if all the basements and Underground MTR stations flooded, have you thought of that?

There is no way K.Yingluk was responsible for the flooding, she is the elected leader and she deserves a chance.

Inexperienced I hear you all cry, so TF**k what. How about the western leaders? Obama, Blair, Brown, the french prick (forget his name) are they any better? No they are much worse.

Give her a break, only in Thailand could a lady so sexy, hot and seemingly useless be elected leader. Cease your constant whining and enjoy the dry weather before the next rainy season hits, then you may start complaining again if the floods recur.

I think your beliefs are way out of date i.e

Tony Blair has been out of office for over 3 years,

Gordon Brown has been out of Office for near on 18 months, and relinquished the Labour Party Leadership shortly after losing the Election of 2010

But do feel free to carry on and blame them for Yingluks lack of leadership and knowledge,if you must.

BnB set the ball rolling didn't they, now its hurtling downhill and out of control. Farcical leadership.

Yingluk, well she's only a puppet (and a hot one at that) she deserves a chance, look at the options, what would you prefer here in the Kingdom?

  5. .

In related news announced today, the flood death toll has risen to 689 confirmed dead with 3 still missing, according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department.

They went on to say that the flood still prevails in 10 provinces, affecting 4,405,315 people.

    .

Thats a hell of a lot of water, how would you get rid of it?

by getting 75,000 boats to the Chiang Mai Night Safari Menu Planner Plodprasob pronto !

Plodprasob claims operation to speed up water flow successful

    The Nation

Science Minister Plodprasob Surasswadee claimed Monday that the operation to have over 1,000 boast speed up water flow on rivers to the sea became successful.

But Plodprasob was quick to add that the operation would need 75,000 more boats to increase its efficiency.

lmao...like that really worked...funny thing is Yingluck did attend the 1000 boats on the river do. Now that was a classic. thanks for reminding me laugh.gif

  6. I must say to anyone that suffered or lost their homes, belongings or income that I feel for you. It must have been a terrible time for anyone in that position. Human nature being what it is one always looks for someone to blame i think.

However, the floods happened for several reasons, not because K. Yingluk was in power and not because she failed to do her job. I hope that Thailand can learn from this but it's unlikely they have enough time to put any better flood defenses in place to deal with next years run off which could well be worse than what we have been through this year.

Its easy to say "well you shouldn't have built or bought house on a flood plain" but when the sun is shining and one is looking at a new home to buy in which to raise with their family, a great flood is probably the furthest thing from ones mind.

Life goes on and on and on, if you are living then make the most of it, help others, be constructive, try not to be critical, try not to hate. Live and love my friends, share your problems with others and let the world be a happier place.

  7. Care to enlighten us with what you would have done different in the crisis?? I see all this negative and have not seen any solid alternatives to the flood situation

To start with, she should have taken control of the situation herself, not had, from one day to the next, a different government expert, or a different government official, or a different government minister, making announcements on the government's behalf. What we needed was a leader who could stand up and say, "ok, this is what we are doing". Not someone who spent the vast majority of the time going round looking for good photo ops. Not someone who started weeping. In crisis you need someone strong to take charge. I don't think she did that. Do you?

Sorry for being rude in my earlier post.

Maybe she should have ordered all her ministers to keep quiet, but hey have you ever tried herding cats?

I think she did stand up and say, we are flooded but we cannot let inner BKK flood and she stuck to her word on that

I don't think she was looking for photo ops was she? More like she was out and about trying to get a grip of the situation, visiting places to see for herself.

As for weeping, well she was probably upset, frustrated and angry about all the shit on her shoulders and all the slagging off she was taking, she's human after all. Sir Winston Churchill also wept a lot and he was a magnificent leader in troubled times.

All in all and in retrospect I think she's done a great job and I wish her well.

  8. Didn't they already say a few weeks ago that the flooding would be gone by the end of November? If I'm not mistaken, they even gave a date.

There's been a whole lot of Cabinet Minister's pronouncements going back 56 days...

    http://www.thaivisa....ost__p__4887586

    -----------------------------------------------

    Your point is?

That they've been repeatedly deceptive for a solid 56 days.

    .

Hopeful or encouraging even but not deceptive. They simply had no place to put all that water.

    Your point is?

Granted the last one was a bit hopeful nevertheless he's the commerce minister so one wouldn't expect him to say all the plants have had it and will cost billions of baht to replace all the machinery since that would go against his position, right?

  10. How is she crap? What are her failings? It looks like you nobs have nothing better to do other than slag off the lovely Yingluk.

She's been working tirelessly since she was elected, she's a babe as well.

As for your suggestion that I start a thread in the world news, you can ram it where the sun don't shine.

I have a policy about debating with people who are unable to remain civil. I don't.

Well I find that just a typical ostrich attitude. You may condescendingly slag YL off but you offer no alternative.

There is no way on earth that you would have handled the latest disaster better than she did.

She came into power while it was pissing down with rain, the dams were full, we had 3 massive storms and then it flooded, what's she going to do about that?

  11. Y.L doesn't really knows the Bangkok territory.

One is tempted to say, nor her arse, from her elbow.

    and you do?

Well, with regards managing a disaster, based on what i witnessed where i was, i rather think i do. I guess though had i been living under Bangkok in a subway station, i would be singing her praises (as well as Hotel California to earn a penny or two from passing tourists).

To base your ability to manage a disaster better than YL on what you have witnessed makes no sense at all.

I would say she witnessed a lot more than you, thus by your perspective that makes her better at disaster management....next?

  12. Didn't they already say a few weeks ago that the flooding would be gone by the end of November? If I'm not mistaken, they even gave a date.

  13. For my sixpence-worth, and I'm no expert, why not channel the unwanted water to areas where it is wanted by building a system of canals ? In the north-east of Thailand, Buriram area, we've had quite a lot of water this year. Rice crops doing nicely etc. We had even more water here 3 years ago, but in between, drought. Last year our rice crop failed due to NO water, not one grain of rice and this was the same for a huge area. We WANT water, we NEED water, so channel it here and save precious Bangkok the same misery it's currently having in the future. Far cheaper to build canals heading east than to try and circumnavigate Bangkok.....in my opinion

If you haven't patented that idea, you are a fool sir.

  14. Now come on everyone, play the white man here. Yingluck has had one of the toughest introductions to a leadership we've seen. It isn't her fault there was no one in authority in Thailand with the foresight to see what might happen if masses of water are allowed to build up when the forecast was for a heavy rainy season. Where were the fortune tellers when you actually need them? She is being a real trooper and doing her best with precious little help from her subordinates in government..

Why should anyone go easy on her? If she isn't up to the job, she shouldn't have applied for the position. Remember that the buck stops with HER, not anyone else. Any fool can sail on calm waters.

There have been people saying for many years that what has happened would happen if they didn't change what they were doing with regard to the environment. Unfortunately no one listened, including Thaksin who was in charge for many years. No one to blame but themselves.

If her subordinates aren't helping she has the power to change them, doesn't she!

No my friend, she does not have the power to change her subordinates

  15. A lot of business is done in Bangkok, and a lot of tourists come to Bangkok. If Bangkok is flooded for a month, the tourists will disappear and the business won't get done.

A lot of people are employed in Bangkok, whether they are living in currently flooded areas or not. If Bangkok is flooded, more people will be out of work than already are. More people will die or get sick than already are. More hospitals will need to transfer patients than already have.

You said it yourself, those ppl working in BKK might be living in flooded areas for the majority; they are under water, they are the one been at health risk...

I do not see any health risk staying on 2nd 3rd or any other floor of any area.

Most place on ground floors in Bangkok are shops, banks and so on, move the PC and equipment to higher floors and let the water flow....

What do ppl eat in Thailand? Rice.. Plains...

    Warehouses. I mentioned already.

Bet when goods starts to become very scarce and ppl very hungry, then they will find a water to flow water much faster to sea...

As Thai as Heart said, get the ppl out, secure the buildings and empty the plains...

Remember last Nov, huge rains in Thailand and floods until Dec in Southern parts....

BKK is between 12 B m3 of water and the sea... Holding 12 billions like they won the battle???

    Raining season is not finished...

    Dangerous gamble imo.

Actually the rainy season finished a week ago...just saying

  16. When in England , at a fairly large conference, Gen. Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush. He answered by saying, ' Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return. '

I simply don't believe this anecdote as you describe it.If you can provide evidence to substantiate I will donate Bt 10,000 to a Thailand flood relief charity of your choice.

I am actually sympathetic to the general point you are trying to make but the facts behind this anecdote have been repeatedly garbled and embroidered to become an urban legend. The basis of this is described in this link:

    http://urbanlegends....olin-powell.htm

I wouldn't donate jack, better to go and hand it out yourself.

Too many donations go to waste as we have seen

The US could have airdropped loads of the donated food, drinks etc but instead it sits ruined and wasted

  17. Referring to the digging of roads and Yingluck using the well worn phrase - "full compensation" - when speaking to the worried residents.

For anyone that believes that an official offering "full compensation" means anything at all, just get the hell out of Dodge.

This is no place for the weak minded liberal, Flak Jackets and tin hats are not issued here, it is and always will be a bare knuckle fight against the 'haves' - whether that be 'have power' or 'have money'.

    Before you assume the knee-jerk position . . .

NO, I DO NOT HAVE ANY PARTISAN POLITICAL PERSUASION

I have been known to favour the educated informed approach to government but have never condoned the abuse of power which is commonplace at every level and on all sides in Thailand. Winning at any cost is the mantra, regardless of the casualties; innocent or otherwise. It is not 'what you know' in Thailand but 'who you know' and that just means someone can always have a better contact to out-rank yours or pay more to get their way.

First hand experience? Yes. And yes again - it has left me somewhat embittered or twice shy. We bought land 40 years ago, received permission to build 25 years ago, and now predominantly suffer 80-90Db and the house shaking (literally) until 1:30am from first morning flights. EIA? - my armpit. Don't believe all that <deleted> either. It's just another bit of window dressing data to be ignored, misinterpreted or misrepresented.

They promised us compensation and came up with a few thousand Baht to soundproof our house (impossible, and you can't soundproof or pollution proof the gardens) - after 4 years! Now it is blighted, the residents have aquiesced to the expectation modification - protracted broken promises and the 'pag wan' techniques that the Thais love from authority figures. Their war of attrition over the last 7 years has been effective, and we have no effective way to redress our position or extricate ouselves from this war zone other than to cash in our pensions.

It is always someone elses problem in Thailand, unless the heavy weight is actually on your own toes.

Compensation? For pity's sake tell them not to fall for that one again!

What does Liberal have to do with you building your house near an airport.

I think the airport was built near his house
