  1. Working doing what?

    Just wondering.

    Bar man probably.

Had a mate that did it in Phuket. Not everyone knows or cares as much as TV members about work permits

I asked the same question and some pleb jumped to the same assumption in the closed thread. Ever thought that what he was doing might be connected to what happened? There isnt much info. Very sad.

well, I don't want to make assumptions either but I have seen with my own eyes what a hard lifestyle "the scene" can be to a lot of these kids. Lots of late nights [every night, really] and lots of alcohol involved, and oftentimes drugs as well.

AGAIN, not saying this young man was doing those things, just stating the fact that a lot of young kids do.

  2. That 198kg of cannabis would bring a lot of stress relief to many people.

Hard to believe that lightweight plant is still illegal here - or anywhere for that matter.

Sangsom with coke, then beat up the wife and cause auto crashes? Good!

A little weed which makes people more mellow and never harms anyone? Bad!

Sangsom with coke, then beat up the wife and cause auto crashes?

Is that what your weekend looks like?? have fun....

They should be tough on drugs, especially with the foreigners.

    Why? Why? And why?!!

Deaw makes a very good point which you have clearly missed. Marijuana is harmless, alcohol is extremely damaging. And why on earth should "they" be tougher on foreigners. Explain yourself, please.

Yeah, that guy seems unable to pick up on sarcasm.

I say "Sangsom and cokes and beat up the wife and get in a car crash'' and he thinks that is really what I do on the weekends; sigh.

Fact is, it's what a LOT of men do in this country; not all, but a lot. But Sangsom - which, lets face it, is basically one step up from floor cleaner - is perfectly legal and any 10-year old kid can go get it at the 7. Weed? Get caught with a few grams and it's as serious as if you were holding Ice or Yaba. Not getting it.

  3. Strewth...Aussies would be annoyed to read Tullynagardy's view.

Probably.....but then again, maybe some of them shouldn't go around calling people names and denigrating them, then offering in defense "oh, you just don't understand the Aussie sense of humor, mate!"

RE this thread; skip both of those over-crowded, traffic-filled cesspools and go to Phangan.

  4. Why, when I made a similar post about being happy because I possess a type 'O' Visa and won't have to worry about the new rules for Visa renewals, I was shot down by numerous people for being just another arrogant American?

This guy is happy about securing a retirement Visa for another year; shouldn't the TV haters be out in full-force declaring their undying hatred for the guy?

Come on keyboard warriors, no one in Thailand is supposed to be happy while YOU'RE miserable, you're slipping!

  5. I don't live in Pattaya, and I am only 51 and in somewhat-decent health, but I've often thought that if I died in my sleep no one would know for days.........surely the same or more than this guy. I have lots of friends but they don't babysit me and sometimes I go 3 or 4 days or even a week before I cross paths with anyone I know really well. Plus where I live there is no maid service, and I have no GF or wife, so who would find me? It would take many days before the smell got bad enough for the few neighbors on the 6th floor to notify reception.

I'd like to think the guys whom I do Quiz Night with every Monday night would say "Hey, where is Deaw?" and send over a search party, but by then I would be as ripe as this poor old man. R.I.P.

Well you know what they say Deaw, if your good at quizzes you tend to have no common sense!!! Get yourself some Harpic haze buddy.

Who says if you are good at quizzes you tend to have no common sense? Utter rubbish and a generalisation, typical of many of the persons that post on Thai visa.

Some people feel sorry for losers like him who sit back and just wait to pounce on some post they don't like on Thai Visa, because their lives are so empty and pointless otherwise. But I don't feel bad for them at all, I think they are pathetic and yes, they are legend on this website.

A truly sad lot with no lives outside being angry keyboard warriors.

  6. R.I.P

At least he died living the dream and not in some lonely UK shizhole.

Living a dream is some sleazy shizhole in Sunee Plaza, all alone and nobody knew for 3 days and then only because of the smell? You call that living the dream? Warped.

  7. Phuket is a horrible place! Too many bar girls, same with Samui. KP gets my vote.

    wrong

Patong is a horrible place! Too many bar girls

the rest of the island ( especially north of patong) is very nice

I wouldn't say Phuket is *horrible*, that's a pretty strong word. But I haven't been there since 2007, which I think speaks volumes at least in my case; prior to that I used to go there all the time.

Way too many people, way too crowded, way too many traffic jams, and yes, Patong is pretty much Pattaya south and is a dump of epic proportions. I can't imagine the island has gotten any better or less crowded in the past 7 years, and I see no reason to ever go back there. Ditto Samui.

  8. Deaw, is obviously out of touch, as KP now has Makro, Big C and Tesco... Home Mart too... that being said, there still is limited things to do for full timers on KP...

Then these are all brand new. When I left there at the end of 2012 there wasn't even one of these things, all we had was a small, food-only Tesco in Thong Sala.

Maybe I left the island at a good time?

  9. I just lived on Phangan for 6 high seasons, loved it and absolutely hated Samui whenever I had to go over there for something.

Too crowded, too Hi-so tourists, too much traffic, too much.......everything. On the other hand, they have modern conveniences not available on Phangan, like air-conditioned restaurants and good hospitals and places like Home Pro and a large Tesco. Plus an airport.

Bear in mind Phangan has only one Tesco in Thong Sala, and it's small, food-only.

Internet was never an issue, I live near BKK right now and my internet was way better and faster on Phangan........be aware they still have the occasional blackout as well, usually just an hour or 2 but sometimes overnight, which makes it hard to sleep.

For me it would be a no-brainer, the old proverbial "Phangan looks like Samui did 30 years ago." If you want something like that, move to Phangan; if you want more mod cons and want to be around more people, go to Samui.

  10. There's a huge difference between talking like a baby and slowing down your speech so a Thai may understand you better.

"Me come room you, we go bar, meet friend you 10 o-crock, we go disco, dance all night na?" could easily sound like this [slowly enunciated]; "I will come to your room at 10, we can go to meet your friend, then we can go dancing." The person saying it won't sound like a fool or sound condescending, The Thai will understand them perfectly, and everyone is happy.

I cringe whenever I hear someone talking pidgin English to a Thai; they are working hard to understand a second language, not mentally retarded.

If someone really talks like this around other farangs, I'd say it's clearly time to make new friends.

  11. So, in this scenario, I would get a non-o before I head over. Then, when it's time for the extension, I tell them what? That I'm taking Thai classes? I mean, I plan to be doing that anyway, but is it really that simple?

The first time I got a type O from another US consulate, not in Dallas, I had a big story lined up for them; building a home on Samui, living with a Thai lady, have to be there to oversee construction, etc......I rehearsed my speech, planned it, worried about it, all until the day of my appointment.

On that day I walked into the Consulate, asked the lady for a Type O visa, and was fully prepared to get a full onslaught of questions. Problem is, she didn't ask me anything except for the [at the time] fee of 160 dollars. No questions, no hassles, in and out in 10 minutes. Worked the exact same way for the next 5 years as well, the only thing that changed was the fee [now I believe it's 220]. I am post-50 now so have no more needs to get a Type O but from my experience it was really simple.

Your mileage may vary and the Dallas consulate may be a bit more of a stickler for details, but for the consulate in my area it was easy as pie.

  12. I will smile wide when I cross through with my non-immigrant type O next week and receive another 90 days biggrin.png

    Don't forget the 20000 cash .... wink.png

Nope, paid for it in the states already, last October.

I just need to walk over and come right back in and get another 90 days, my only expense should be getting the Cambo visa.

Right? I already have a Visa, I am not looking to re-enter on a tourist deal.
