  1. Its now become worldwide as I work for a large European gas/engineering company and getting any manager at any level to accept responsibility or make a decision is impossible. I wonder if its contagious as its no longer a far eastern trait :-) I have also experienced many of the above instances when in Thailand I just smile and think to myself TIT as if you worry about these things in Thailand you would put yourself in the Asylum :-)

  2.  This is not a one off incident I know of a few similar incidents in the last week so it looks like Skype has been hacked. By all accounts if you contact Skype they will ask you to link your Skype account to your windows Microsoft account?  and they appear to have no idea what's happening.

  3. I will have a good look in the boxes in September but the consumer units are fully populated with MCBs so I suspect there are no free ways but I'm sure I can double up on some low power circuits and create a spare way as there is a very low load on both the bedroom power circuits only 2*11W LED table lamps and phone chargers with only two double outlets. Or I could double up on the lighting circuits as they are all now LED bulbs max circuit load 8*11W and some 4*11W circuits. I looked at the single way RCBOs when I tried to source the ABB double units but its a very expensive way to solve the problem. Thanks for the info anyway I think your idea to double up some low power circuits and use three way RCBOs, Its the best way to go to gain some initial safety in my condo and then when i retire next year Ill install an earth either with an earth rod or as I'm on the ground floor look for a suitable earth point in the basement. I had a Thai electrician replace a water heater and was shocked by their lack of understanding of cable clamping tightening connections etc I rewired the unit after he left as it appears that if its working its is O/K:sad: Ill be happy to get the condo electrics up to a safe standard when I spend more time in Thailand. The wiring and installation in my condo appears to be a fairly competent job but whoever did it did not understand the protection required although T.I.T  I also noticed that running 240V and cable TV to the same double box with no zoning appears to be a Thai stranded which could cause some serious upset to all TVs in the building if they ever get together.

  4. Hi mate I'm not in Thailand at the moment but I'm sure they are 60A. I'm in the UK till September so I hopefully source something suitable here and also looked for the ABB units on line and found the same as yourself. I'm presuming that being DIN units they will all be the same size as it's an electrical standard but knowing technology that probably won't be the case?

  5. Thanks for the info mate I'm only in Thailand occasionally at the moment but hope to upgrade the system next year when I get more time. I'll have a look round and see if I can find two units to replace the main isolators as there's no extra ways in the two consumer units Thanks again for the info.

  6. Groupy turned into grumpy = human age evolution.☺

    Ken.

I find it odd that many of these people were called groupies when they were young and required a small amount of associated fame and are now called victims when they are wiser and older and probably require some cash to boost their state pention.☺

Well I was a 'groupy', or something like that back then....But I do need some help with my pension now....laugh.png

  7. Unfortunately Angela Merkel has opened Pandoras box a now cannot close it and I suspect this will be one of many such incidents. The stupidity of so called leaders is breathtaking I personally will not be visiting any major public celebrations over the coming year in the UK due to the risk that's been created and we are lucky being surrounded with sea, but still at risk. I feel very sorry for people in the rest of Europe who have land borders as you are now effectively at war on European soil with ISIS due to short sighted poletitions unraveling our fairly safe European lives. Shame on them all, so called professionals who will sell their souls for a few days good publicity but I feel this one will backfire tremendously. I feel much safer in Thailand than at present in the UK.

  8. Hi I find if you use modern ready to go rechargeable batteries in the remotes and clocks they are far better built and do not degrade/leak over time. I already leave beer and a container of water for my first cup of tea upon arrival but a very good point that I forgot to add :-)

  9. Hi all the cling film will not prevent the toilet trap drying out but will delay it doing so for a few months but its main duty is to prevent initially the toilet becoming a mossie breeding pool and then when the trap dries up its secondary job is to block access to in secs from the sewer/cess pit. I also place a few mothballs down the toilet before sealing the pan and crush some mothballs up and put down plugholes/drains. The last thing I do before leaving the find is look at the checkoff list and then bug spray cupboards/wardrobe's and then all rooms before locking up. I think most of the issus/ideas here would make a good sticky with a printable list for checkoff.

  10. Hi Jadee I leave my condo for six month periods on a regular basis the rules to follow are the general empty house rules. Leave no food that will attract insects but leave some tinned food and bottled water for your return (may be unsocial hours). Leave a few thousand baht it saves you requiring instant access money on your return. Elec and water supply off. Its likely your toilet will dry up leaving a path for all kinds of insects to access your condo from sewer/cess pit so cling film toilet and make sure you flush the toilet upon your return before removing the cling film. Its also wise to cling film the toilet cistern as mossie or similar eggs will be in the water and will hatch and breed. I put a few mothballs down in cupboards to deter insects. As you can see insects are the main problem. I would also inform the condo security and bung than a few baht to keep an eye on your room although a locked condo is generally pretty safe due to lots of eyes about. Pay condo bills a bit in advance in case you get your return delayed by a few months and I pay elec with direct debit which covers standing charges. I also make sure I have a current thai sim card for my return (all tel company will extend sim for a small charge) Make crossoff list and use every time it saves you thinking have i done everything one hour after you leave the condo. Also remember you have clingfilmed the toilet if you are caught short on your return :-)

I think I've covered the main points.

  11. Hi I regularly make bacon when I visit Pattaya using loin or belly (lean or fatty bacon) using various curing mixes. The ratio of salt to meat in general curing mixes is 30g curing salt to 1kg of pork if using standard salt cure and 70g salt cure to 1kg of pork if using a salt cure that already contains some sugar (lowcocks mix). Rub the mix into the meat at the above ratio and place in a sealed poly bag (I find the ziploc bags ideal) then turn daily in the fridge for a time depending on the meat thickness (one day per an inch thickness) then add another day. Once you taste your own cured bacon you will be amazed at how good it tastes compared to the processed packaged bacon that is produced by an industrial method for super fast results. The industrial bacon has many added components to make the pork hold water ( up to 100% extra weight) as the producers like to sell you water at ?bht a kilo :-) now you know what all that white gunk is when you grill it and why it shrinks. There are many doom sellers attacking cured food and you have to be safe with the nitrates and nitrites in cure mixes but looking at it realistically you ingest more carsogens walking daily down a busy road and breathing in exhaust fumes than you will ingest having an occasional bacon butty. How our ancesters survived to continue the human race never surprises me as if you listen to the doom merchants we should have died out millennia ago but it gives them something to get excited about :-)
