  1. His use of English and the grammatical areas make me question the authenticity of the note.

A seriously distressed person, or someone who has already taken some drugs could explain this, but if anyone knew him, they might be able to shed some light on this.

    RIP.

I'm guessing it was the reporters error. Or maybe it was translated into Thai for the investigators and the journalist translated back to English from their notes?

  2. What a farse 15 international airports and then Central World, it's like at SAT question, where your suppose to pick out the one that doesn't belong.

What a fricken losser, obviously they manipulated the numbers by having people that work for Central World do mass checkins,

talk about wasting your time for a stupid rating.

I bet they are the only one in the top 20 to manipulate their numbers, and probably the only one to achknowledge there standings as well.

I have had about 6000 baht of gift certificates in my drawer for about 3 years now, there is nothing I want in Central even if it is free,

low quality overpriced crap...........................spending only 5 or 6 baht almost pays for your ticket to HK or singapore, where they actually have a selection of quality stuff.

Gotta applaude the newest addition to the pack, GAP, everyone in the US bought it because it was cheap, now they take a shirt that was made in Thailand, and sells in the US for $12, and sell it over here for $55.

And of course the ignorant brats of government officials will pick up 10 of them, because they will look cool and American, and well of course

there's never a shortage of funds for overpriced GAP shirts, as daddy is already working on another rice subsidy scheme to benefit all the farmers.

    Amazing Thailand!!!!!!

Are any of those coupons for a free hug? If so you should totally cash that in dude.

  3. No sure where you shop 'Rockdoc' but I have just been down to my local gas cylinder supplier and there is not one single cylinder without a shut-of valve. I have only seen the ball type valves on small camping type cylinders.

And 'thaiedward' All gas valves are designed to give the correct flow to the regulator when fully open, partially closed valves can cause problems that I won't go into here. Try Charles and Boyles gas laws. As far as only opening Acetylene valves a fraction defiinately a No No, if you have flame arestors fitted then you sould not have a problem.

When I moved to Thailand I didn't know anything about these gas tanks. When we got our oven I was told where to go buy one. So I went and bought one and brought it back home only to find out that it didn't fit. I needed the valve, or regulator or whatever. A friend told me what I needed (I'm not so handy) and I went back and described to them what I needed. They conferred a bit among themselves and then figured out what I needed. Then they produced one from the back and sold it to me. This was a big major gas tank shop on a major road. I'm not sure why they didn't sell it to me with the tank right off.

  4. Lucky it wasn't worse. These unregulated uses of gas tanks in Thailand in commercial and residential locations is a ticking bomb. Most people would be like Tony the cook from Cambodia, and they would just run or be totally ignorant that a gas leak is a hazard. There is no regulated guidance on this at all.

Ignorant? He knew enough to run didn't he?

  5. It seems all the responses kind of miss the whole point of the topic.. What is a ladyboy referred to as, she or he? what is a tomboy referred to as, he or she?

Can only comment on what I hear myself, a ladyboy is referred to as a ladyboy, a tom as as tom a dee as a dee and gay as gay.

Havent yet been able to work out what the next door neighbour would be referred to, a straight man who dresses like a tom and has a girlfriend.

    What is a "dee?"

  6. most likely the runway wasnt wide enough. similar to thai drivers where the road never seems to be wide enough, even if its two lanes. there is always the compulsion to come drive on the other side. i see in the picture there is a road that runs alongside the runway hence the thai pilots god given right to land there if he wants. I suspect it may be a genetic thing, thai culture and certainly not his fault. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, you should probably go back to your home country where the pilots drive better huh?

  7. It should also be noted that iPhones sold in the US through carriers such as AT&T and Verizon are heavily subsided by those carriers. Those carriers cover a lot of the cost in exchange for you agreeing to sign a usage contract with them. The Thai carriers do not take part in this subsidy strategy and thus, you pay here the same amount you would pay Apple to buy an unlocked phone from apple.com. I just bought 2 myself directly from Apple for use in Thailand.

  8. If the 5.3 afterquake today is huge, what was the 8.7 quake last week??

According to the Richter Scale a 5.3 quake is 4000 times weaker than a 8.7 quake, so definitely no need for a Tsunami warning.

    richter-scale.gif

What matters is not so much the size of the quake but the TYPE of quake. Last weeks was a "strike-slip" quake which is not the type to cause tsunamis, despite it's massive size on the scale.

  9. I think a MacPro is a desktop-ish unit? I assume that it might be challenging to get airside: through security and/or maybe it is too large for carry-on? So now you might have to check it as luggage. You could of course still claim VAT if you were to purchase it anywhere in Thailand prior to your departure. Just make sure the store will provide you with the required documentation.

Yes, the MacPro is a desktop unit. I brought mine from the US in a suitcase. It can be done!

  10. I made complete guide to getting and renewing a license which can be downloaded here: http://darindunn.com...versLicense.pdf

I'm sure you put some time into this but there is couple of issues in your doc that does not match with the common requirements.

    1. Proof of address you have following options, Blue Book (permanent residents, Thai nationals), Yellow Book, Work Permit, Embassy Letter, Immigration Letter. These are applicable regardless of DL you applying first temp 1 year, 1 to 5 year or 5 to 5 year renewal.

    2. If you have IDP from your home country or home country DL translated and certified by Embassy you do not need to take the written and drive tests as you are converting your home country DL to Thai DL. Looks like your web links were not accepted and they got you to do it from scratch as there was not embassy stamped translation or IDP available. Note that some DLT's accept English language home country DL without embassy stamps.

    3. You doc seems to be Chiang Mai specific, although you don't specify what kind of visa is required. Non-immigrant is in the official requirements but some DLT's (Department of Land Transport) offices give one year temp DL without one.

    4. Don't know about Chiang Mai personally but i doubt there is requirement to renew within 60 days or 90 days of expiry. Previously you had to have DL more than one year to get 5 years one so could only go from 1 to 5 years after expiry. 5 to 5 years works well if renew just after expiry and you get 6 years effectively. Not heard this has changed but again CM might have their own rules?

I did spend a lot of time on this document. I started writing it in 2007 and have updated it each time I have renewed as the prices and policies change. I have also personally taken many people through this process. So, I stand by my help guide as written. Of course, this is Thailand so policies and procedures may change based on the day and who is in charge during that shift. I will say though, that has not been my experience. Everyone I have walked through this process has encountered exactly what I wrote in my document.
