  1. Any chance they can help Thailand get a quality 3G network running in Thailand?

Where are you located anyway? For years I have been getting excellent 3G speeds and coverage with DTAC. Even before the official 3G designation I have had 3G speeds when it was simply classified as WCDMA (3G is actually a sub catagory of WCDMA). I have not found the same excellence of service in either Singapore or Malaysia. Regardless of whether a country says that it has 4G this does not mean that the coverage is good nor can the networks provide it during high volume usage hours. Devices invariably shift down to Edge speeds.

I agree. My 3G works great. I've had it for 3 years now.

  2. According to another source *(Edited out)*, Mr. Tum couldn't swim. He went out on a surfboard, lost the board and couldn't make it back to the beach...

I do not know the "source" you are quoting, but surely that information can not be correct.

I have never heard of surfer that can't swim. The deceased would have come off his board many times whilst a novice, learning the sport.

    RIP

Well, he died. So obviously he didn't swim very well. I go to Kata once a year during rainy season and I body surf out with the surfers. The surf there is not that difficult. I can tread and float easily for 30 mins at a time while riding waves with no flotation devices. The surfers are usually annoyed with me being in their area but other than that I've never felt any danger.

  3. If it is a passport that has not been used to enter Thailand or one you will plan to exit the country with then there is no problem.

I've got a couple of passports and due to the amount of travel I've done over the last 20 years I have often had to have a new one sent by Fed Ex.

Unless there is some obvious scam such as trying to rip of the UK social services then there is no problem.

Always keep the old one with you unless like me you've been to countries where certain passports and stamps are not acceptable.

In the old days of hi jacking I never travelled with my British passport.

Just curious why you didn't want to travel with a British passport during the highjacking days.

  4. This is a depressing thing I have been seeing a lot of recently

Why does it depress you ? Do you get depressed about a lot of things that are no concern of yours ?

It's called Reckless Endangerment of a Child and it is a felony in many places.

Of course, that is in the "nanny state" where sensible laws are enforced.

It's a "felony" in the United States. As is driving under the influence, marrying a member of another race or drinking from a water fountain marked "whites only".

Yes- nanny state indeed. If you need laws like that you are in the wrong country. Thailand whilst often being found wanting in some areas, at least makes YOU responsible for YOUR stupidity.

Not in Texas. We still don't have a helmet law oddly enough.

  5. Why not try speaking nicely to and about her----------Using the Thai language of course !smile.png

Thai langauge won't impress anyone at immigration. I speak it pretty well and every time I speak in Thai to them, they answer back in English. That is standard experience though with most Thais. Speak a few words and they love it. Any more and you know a bit too much. I have a friend who has a masters degree in Thai. Sometimes it takes him three sentences before they answer back in Thai.

What?! You must be terrible then :) Not my experience at all. As soon as I speak Thai to them they start treating me as one of their own. And I'm not even that skilled.

  6. How long before one of our fruitloop TV naysayers manages to pin this on the Thai bloke for parking his boat on the beach? blink.png width=20 alt=blink.png>

Who needs TV naysayers? Looks like the police will pin it on the bike rider - ad try to recover damages to the boat. They boat could well have been illegally parked...but I doubt that will matter much to the police.

    And there it is.

  7. "The BBC is financed by British taxpayers" NO it's not, It financed by a TV licence fee the reporter should get their facts right.

    Jasus, talk about splitting hairs...

Anyway, I shall file this topic under "don't give a shit"

    totster smile.png

It always a race to see who can say it first. "The reporter got the facts wrong!"

  8. They could not locate him once the boat reached the island, they said, so they realised that he must have fallen overboard and immediately alerted the rescue teams.

Very sorry to disturb the main story line, which seems to be the looks of the nurse. laugh.png

I travelled dozens of times with all ferry companies arount there, and sure as hell nobody ever checks the passengers when they leave the ferry!

Don't know how to explain it but this part of the story stinks! bah.gif

They probably noticed the unclaimed baggage.

  9. I guess you didn't view the picture which shows the buses clearing marked as going to the other beaches.

I guess I did view the picture. You should look again ...Click on the image to enlarge

Yup, thanks! I hope you noticed your error the 2nd time you posted it. I see the words "KATA - KARON - PHUKET" on the bus. This indicates the bus does run along those beaches.

  10. Mr WorldWide,

Thank you!! I have often wondered why so many people on TV are so jaded. If they hate Thais and Thailand so much, why are they here. I happen to love this place, and it's people. Sure, I get frustrated sometimes. But that is because I am living in THEIR culture. It is not wrong, it is different. Now, three years on, it's amazing how much easier to live here it now that I have learned to read, write and speak the language. It has opened my eyes to things I would have never seen and helped me to understand the things that frustrated me.

Don't worry, once your gf does you over, you will feel the same as all the other jaded guys.

I am married to an American girl. So it's not going to happen. Entering into marriage is hard enough without the cross-cultural aspect. I think that a lot of guys are just not prepared to handle the culture shock that comes from inter-cultural marriage. I for one knew I would never be able to handle it so I never "went there." I was here for 3 years as a single. 1 in Isaan and 2 in CM. Then I met my wife and we've been back now 2 years. At this point I have nothing but love for this great country I am now blessed to call home. I honestly think it has a LOT to do with studying Thai 3 hours a week for a couple years. I'm no linguist but even that was enough to help me get proficient in the language which made it IMMENSELY easier to live here.

  12. I never claimed anything. I just mentioned that I witnessed buses, with various beach names, picking people up in Kata. Then I was told I was a liar and that it was impossible that I could have seen such a thing. And I never made a claim over the price. I said they were either free or very cheap but that I wasn't sure.

I just read through all the posts. Not one poster called you a 'liar'. The posters stated that your observations were not correct. Yes, there are public buses where you stated, and there are lots of tourists hopping on and off, and there is no violence - all agreed. Where we disagree is the idea that this bus goes to 'other beaches' such as Patong. This topic was about the Airport bus running to Patong and on to Kata with the possibility of the public being able to board at Patong and on to Kata. This will not be allowed by the Tuk Tuks and violence was threatened, and reported in the news.

I guess you didn't view the picture which shows the buses clearing marked as going to the other beaches.
