Why is this so surprising & automatically attributed to Sinovac?  Has it not always been known that the vaccine...any vaccine...is not a bullet proof vest?  That you may still contract Covid but "hopefully symptoms will be lessened?

Truth is most if not all "regular" folks meaning non Medical workers

probably never get retested for Covid once vaccinated & assume all is well.

Even though they could have since caught Covid & were asymptomatic or have lessened symptoms to the point of going unnoticed.  Which in truth makes them Super Spreaders

Medical workers on the other hand are probably tested weekly at least so of course so this already known chink in the Armour of ANY vaccine against a constantly changing Covid Virus will be more often shown

This is exactly correct. A vaccine doesn't prevent infection or the spread of infection. They increase immune response to lessen the effect of the infection.

Unfortunately, the news rarely ever goes too far into explaining scientific facts.

Not good news for those of us who teach on "part time" contracts; no school = no classes = no pay!

If you haven’t built up an e-learning program by now and established yourself as an online educator I don’t know what to tell you.

There is so much private tutoring work out there via online that you can easily make a lot more than what you’re making on part time contracts. You just need to impress one parent and then word off mouth will lead to you having to turn away people due to high demand.

I have been able to communicate with most shops in English (some needed an interpreter) I haven’t been overcharged in my reasonably frequent visits

How do you know you’re not being overcharged? Do you know what you should expect from a labor and materials standpoint?

    Thanks, that looks good.

But it seems expensive to my non-expert eyes.

Came across this slightly old thread after a google search.

Hulta definitely charges more for their products and services because of the foreigner factor.

You can get equal quality by going to Wood Street but you’re going to need someone who can translate for you or better yet, have a Thai person go for you as they may up charge you if you’re a foreigner.

Cats are very effective at killing snakes ... just google cats killing snakes -- even rattlesnakes in America... The large cobras might not be affected but cats can keep the snake population down as the smaller younger ones emerge. I recently saw an average sized cat back down a huge 2.5 meter very aggressive rat snake only a few weeks ago.

Maybe true but they also attract larger snakes. Had a mate who tried keeping a pet cat but it kept attracted large pythons to his yard.

  6. I am interested in renting a house and I’ve come across a provision in the contract that I haven’t seen before since I’ve only rented condos up until now.

    The provision states:

Throughout the rental period  Household tax  Land and building tax when applicable and / or other equivalent taxes plus income tax on the payment of such tax, if applicable”.

Has anyone ever had to pay these taxes as part of the rental agreement and if so, is there a standard rate I should expect to pay?

    Thanks for any advice.

I disagree that sexuality/gender are inherent simply because there are so many ugly ladyboys in LOS. You might think I'm being cruel by saying that, but maybe they didn't take a good look in the mirror at their masculine faces or rugby player's legs, before applying copious amounts of make-up?

You could be easily describing a UK or American woman there as well.

  8. So the video linked to this thread is zoomed out and its hard to make out what happened.

This one is zoomed in and from a slightly different angle:

    https://www.chiangmainews.co.th/page/archives/1417214/

You can clearly see one bike running into the rear of the other bike. The rear bike crashes into the road while the front bike hits the median. Also, the flash from the oncoming bike doesn't happen from this angle.

Edit: It's the same video just cut.

Its 1am, blood tests revealed that both drivers had alcohol in their systems.

Also, rear-ending someone on a motorbike doesn't seem like a logical way to assassinate someone. The witness was out on a motorbike at 1am. He's obviously not concerned and there are plenty of other less exposing ways to kill someone like getting them to jump off a balcony or hang themselves with their hands tied behind their back.

And, what would really be the motive? Boss has ignored the law for years and they threw out the case. He is untouchable. He doesn't need to kill any witnesses.

Here is my take on it, at exactly 13 seconds, the first bike on the left going in the opposite direction lets out a flash, like a gun taking a shot, no, it wasn't the car lights as they are firmly on the ground, it takes about 3 seconds later and you see the pillion passenger drop off of the back of the bike before he ends up in the central reservation. Definately 2 people on the bike.

After the flash, it doesn't take long for the first bike to brake, probably turned his head to see if he made the hit, as the car also brakes, remember this is a straight road with no traffic, then the other two bikes start breaking, then they both pull over, hang around for a while, before starting to cross the road and then the CCTV footage ends.

They were taken out, by who, I have no idea, maybe someone who wants to put an end to the family business, doubt it would be a disgruntled cop because I don't believe these guys car much for their own.

I would say that the Big Boss heir would seriously know now that he shouldn't attempt to come back because this message would be clear enough, how big are you Boss ?

    What the hell?

Wow, what are the odds of that happening?

Thailand - the Land of Strange Coincidences. File this along with the mysterious deaths of those Saudis in the Blue Diamond Affair.

It’s also the land of drunk drivers and high road accident mortality rate especially with people who ride motorbikes.

The chance of this being just a fatal accident is pretty high.

That's a lot of money for an extra 69hp (162hp to 231hp)- now, if the engine put out 331hp, I might not have been able to resist it (of course, the strange Thai import tariffs based on power output would likely have bumped the price up even more).  If you don't need the extra space in the rear, I think you made the right move- the top-spec CX-30 is loaded with features, and it looks great.

First off, the CX-5 is not just a bigger engine compared to the CX-30. Its a much bigger car since the CX-30 is more or less a raised Mazda 3 with slightly more head room. When I looked at both of these cars, I fell in love with the CX-5 since it's more of an SUV as far as style and practicality but I was looking for a family car with some style.

I feel like they hurt the overall look of the CX-30 with that excessive plastic cladding. I know why they did it but for a company that has put so much effort into building up their brand as "affordable luxury" it's baffling to me why they thought it was a good idea because it creates a very confusing looking exterior, it cheapens the look. You'd have to get the machine grey paint color to make the cladding look less obscene. I'm concerned that it will hurt resale value.

With all of that being said, the CX-30 is an overall great car for the price. it drove smoothly, was quite, felt like a much more expensive car on the road and the interior design is stunning. If you can get past the cladding, its the best car in that price range IMOP but to be honest, thats not saying a whole lot since the main competior is the Honda HRV. But, if you have the money, I'd recommend going with the CX-5.

Have you gotten a passport for your child? Have they left the country since their birth? If yes what type of visa entry do they have now.

To apply for the non-o visa at immigration they must have a visa exempt tourist visa entry.

    Requirements are here. http://bangkokimmigration.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/04-edit_NON.pdf

They left last year and entered on a tourist visa but it has since expired.

  13. Hello all. I hope everyone is doing well in these unfortunate times.

I would like to ask for any advice you can give for my situation.

I've been living and working in Thailand for several years. My wife is not Thai but also has been living and working here.

We have  a 3 year old daughter, who was born in Bangkok and its time to get her non-imm. O visa, her new school requires it.

So, is it possible to do this in-country? Or do you have to follow the standard protocol and get it outside the country and then re-enter?

Also, the list of requirements says that you need financial records from my employer and bank statements. Does anyone know what they will accept in this regard?

Thank you for any advice you can give.

With the gradual reduction in cases and the measures already in place it does seem strange to suggest such a long delay. The international school where I work starts term 3 on April 20th and we already know we are closed until May and therefore still teaching online. However, the school have already began planning ways to open again (e.g - students have alternate days in school such as Y1, Y3 and Y5 are in on Monday, Y2, Y4, and Y6 are in on Tuesday and so on). These ideas are being used in other countries like Taiwan and planning to be used in Japan and South Korea soon.

If the spread of the disease looks like it is under control (to a certain extent) then the country has start going gradually again. Places like schools, shops, restaurants etc cannot remain closed for another 2 - 3 months.

Schools were closed for several months back in 2011 due to the flooding situation so this isn't unprecedented.

It makes sense that they will wait until cases are more or less nil to open the vast majority of schools in this country. Schools are easily the most susceptible to the spread of disease and with many elderly living in the same home, erring on the side of caution is best.

  15. I feel that this article is the result of a misconception that was created by the young entrepreneur boom that took place post 2008 financial crisis and the boom of the Chinese market that followed. It coincided with the mass sell-off that we saw in the tourism sector that continues on today that resulted in the destruction of many of Thailand's natural land resources and the closing of several beaches for the sake of sustainability.

All of that money was sunk into countless cookie-cutter Aussie cafes and San Fransico style bistros. How many speakeasy bars selling 500 baht Old Fashions does one need?

Now that the local investment money has dried up, so has the western 'consultant' trend. They can now be found in Vietnam and Taiwan.

I'm not familiar with the healthcare industry, so I'm just curious, if this is normal: "But the hospital would not perform surgery until Sophie’s family had guaranteed payment." or is it just Thailand? I thought all doctors - whether in public or private practice - have taken something like a 'vow' to save lives at all costs, or something to that effect? What if the girl's parents couldn't come up with the guarantee - the hospital is just going to watch the girl die?

"to save lives at all costs"

You actually think that there is a globalized universal health care system that provides the best of the best care for everyone on the planet? Come on you can't be that nieve.

It is not an onslaught of Tourists that is "stressing out " Thailand

Thailand is  " stressing out " Thailand, because of a Country that is living 50 Years in the past.

The Thais really cannot cope with their own success as far a Tourism goes.

I don’t know. Thailand has one of the better infrastructures for tourism. It’s almost too good which is part of the problem.

Its cheap, easy to get around, and there are always accommodations.

Unfortunately, they’ve focused more, in recent years, on mass sale tourism and lack environmental awareness which is now coming back to hurt them.
