  1. This managed to make the ABC radio this morning in a way that could hardly be painted as positive. I think the words Pattaya were in the same sentence as prostitution, corruption, and death of a foreigner.

Dosent Thailand have a strange law in that if you cause thailand bad publicity you can be charged. Perhaps this police officer should be charged for causing such bad publicity.

At the very least he should be given an award for outright stupidity.

  2. These women were hookers.

Which ones? Many women were kidnapped and had no choice.

I watched an interesting documentary on Hiroshima recently and although military leaders and such were making all the decisions the emperor at any time could have stopped the war.

The people of Hiroshima were confused as to why America was so cruel to drop the bomb.

The idiot who ran the Japanese navy wanted to continue fighting even after the second bomb was dropped. Weak bastard then committed sucide.

  3. I must become of those people who come on the website and complain.

I think much of what the OP says is wrong. I lived in Pattaya for five years and I saw many people leave for many reasons. The most common would be due to ill health and a job offer/transfer.

I get the feeling the OP feels that everyone on the planet would be living there permanently if they could afford it.

Truth is in my own situation I made the decision to leave as in truth I became both bored and frustrated with the place. I keep a connection to the place as I have a Thai wife and although I would never live there again I do enjoy taking a short holiday every year or so.

In regards to people leaving as they can not afford it I find that to be well down on the list on reasons people leave as those who really want to be there usually find a way. Plenty of farang in thailand working for 20k a month survival money.

I'm guessing the OP is a recent arrival and will have a change of feeling after a number of years.

  4. Move to Pattaya and rent for a while.

Now spend a lot of time at bars and you will have many farang approach you in the bar absolutely desperate to get out of their property.

Many people come here with dreams and rose colour glasses. Others having never been laid in their home country become addicted to the sex on tap. Anyway they mostly end up broke and desperately need to sell their property so they can continue living the dream.

  5. 20k is not a lot to be carrying espically when you don't have a Thai atm card. Due to arm fees I would always withdraw large lots.

Only difference between me and him is when I was living there is I was about 10 years older and would have been more likely to have the latest Samsung as I preferred a larger screen on my phone.

  6. I was minding my own business at McDonalds in Silom and a young pretty approached me and basically told me to come up to her office as they were looking for guys just like me to teach English. They were offering 30k in 2008. With all the inflation in thailand I'm shocked that they are still only offering that.

  7. ALL you have to do is take a look around at the men those girls are buckbangin' & you know you don't want to be next in line.....

No matter how cute/smokin' hot she is she's probably openned everything she has for business to men from 100+ different countries and their particular/peculiar tastes/desires/dissorders......From the sheeper's/goater's and more....

You want to eat off that menu?

A little alcohol & few baht and any thoughts of safety go out the window.....

I totally understand your point of view (and i too would prefer to eat off a different menu) but the truth is wherever you meet your lady in Thailand, bar, massage, online, hotel reception, office, shopping mall, stall holder etc you are highly unlikely to have a true idea about her past history. Do you have any better evidence about your safety risks from sexual encounters than Maejo provided in the attachment at Post 17?

If i wanted to reduce the overall risks to my health / my life i have assessed (without the aid of alcohol) that i would be better to give up cycling 120km around the centre of CM each week rather than give up sex !

Correct i caught a very rare std that could be traced to quite a small part of Africa. I however have not been to Africa. They are barebacking most of the time.

  8. Come on people..., don't be to hard on the OP. Because thanks to the OP we know now what a bargirl is.

When I first came to Thailand, I had never even knew what a bargirl was, I just imagined the saloon girls you see in the cowboy movies was probably

much the same thing, maybe it is, is that where the idea came from?

In the movies, these saloon girls would sit beside the cowboys to encourage them to drink and also to buy them drinks, they must all be steaming at

the end of their shifts, I don't imagine there were non alcoholic lady drinks, or barfines then.

No there was motel like rooms upstairs where you could take any number of ladies.

  9. I think it is a bit unfair to compare the two cities as they are very different.

Barcelona does win outright in most areas and as the above poster pointed out above Barcelona is more expensive but you are not comparing apples with apples. If you like cheese, beef, and wine, well thailand would be very expensive, if you eat mainly fried rice well Barcelona is expensive.

Public transport is a nightmare in Bangkok and designer type shopping is so expensive.

That being said if you are an ultimate cheep Charlie then you can eat basic Thai dishes and live in a $100 a month apartment on the outskirts of Bangkok. I did it when I first move there it was hell.

One thing thailand will always have going for it is you can go on a two day bender sleep with five different women over those two days and flop home having only spent $400.

I think most people need to be honest on why they came to Bangkok and it is for the women.

  10. I love how the article basically says that Tyler has identified the other people involved in the kidnapp/murder.

I guess being 21 and the reality of being caught in Thailand was a little different than 'sons of Anarchy' . Looking at a very lengthy jail sentence in a system where there is a huge number of deaths in custody oiled the lips.

Or perhaps the police just said he named the others to flush them out and put a mark on him.

You never know in the land of smiles but one thing is for shore who good will a Big Mac taste after going without for anywhere up to 50 years.

  11. I had three high end Chinese phones and correct as above they are just not finished aswell. They all had minor problems and then there was little in the way of after sales service. One screen simply cracked in my pocket and was impossible to replace outside of China. Even if I got a screen the repair guy said he had no experience in repairing so might stuff it.

That said I also had two samsungs die inside of two years so think they are a little over priced.

Love or hate the apple operating system you can not fault the phone on build quality and that is why I now will stick to Apple.

I have also had Chinese motorbikes which looked great on paper but didn't crack up to it and we recently made the mistake of buying a very expensive Chinese made bottling machine that performs nothing like quoted. Finally I purchased a rather expensive Chinese boiler which required two days of an electricians time when it arrived to Oz just to get it so that it was safe.

I'm not anti China but I have now learnt that you get what you pay for and sometimes it is worth paying a premium to keep life hassle free.

Strangely enough I once walked into a mobile shop in Suzhou and one Chinese sales guy who could speak English told me straight if you can afford it don't buy a Chinese phone. Normally they are very patriotic.

  12. As I'm waiting for a new phone, I've borrowed the maid's spare phone for a few days. It's an i-Mobile smart phone and she paid under 3k Baht. Honestly, it sucks. The interface is not intuitive, the screen is not clear and people I call say they can barely hear me. Terrible audio quality. I just tried a test, having my wife call me on it and I used her Galaxy Tab 2. Complete difference. The cheap phone makes you sound like you're talking through a pillow.

Looks like I'll break down and get the S6.

    You did better than me.

I bought one at Tukcom Pattaya on special. I had to take it back three times in two weeks due to battery problems. It simply would not charge after going flat.

Eventually after I showed I was annoyed the lady at Tukcom yelled at me "not my problem, we sell on promotion, you go back to factory".

  13. I think you have to have a high spec android phone if you don't want to feel like smashing it on the floor a few times a day....i had a Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, and it had a mind of its own at times and sluggish. Pressing buttons that only worked when it wanted exercise...

now i have the latest S6 EDGE+, and its a completely different animal, super fast and reliable.

But i will still get the iPhone6S+ when i can find one at the right price, and give the 'Edge' to my Mrs...she loves it!

The 'Edge+' is a superb phone for taking photos, but i am an Apple man myself...and i don't need anyone telling me different thanks, if you don't like Apple, thats up to you, but no need to try and convince me otherwise.

I also had a galaxy grand and got less than 12 months out of it.

  14. I was a big Samsung fan but had way too many quality problems. One phone lasted just over 12 months and the other died just shy of two years. These were flagship phones....

I switched to Apple and yes there are a few things on it I don't like but build quality is far superior.

You however are after a phone for 2600 baht and truthfully for that price you will probably get very little.
