  1. I want to get dtac internet while im in thailand. I have a compatible phone and usb cable (MOTO V600)

I'm in Udon Thani so I'm haveing trouble gettting answer to my question because of comminication.

    1. Is the DTAC sim chip the same for voice and data or do i have to get a differnet sim then the DTAC sims sold everywere?

    2. Is the prepaid cards the same for voice and internet?

    3. Do I need special software t connect? I have WinXp.

    Thanks

  2. Well i'm in Udon THani and I bought a unlimited one month dial up for 600 baht and it wrks great.

Its a 1222 tot tt&t number. Wat is a 1222 number is it local call every where in thailand cslox is the company. It never disconnects.

Also I have to brag. I just entered a $5 tourney with 1200 people and took 4th. Made $440.

  3. But remember that for US items (110v), you'll need to buy a stepdown transformer. Thailand is 220v.

Don't be fooled by the fact that the sockets take US plugs. - you plug in your router or modem - and they'll quite likely get fried. (as one person did to his Vonage router...)

Thanks, I'll look at the AC adapter to see if it reads 110/220. Most electornics here these days automatically handles both.

  4. I will be in Thailand for about a year and will be signing at least a six moth lease somewere.

I don't know what my internet options will be but if I can get ADSL I will.

Is it worht it to bring my DSL modem from the US and my wireless router for my Thanks

  5. I like to play poker tournements online and make a few thousand a month doing it. When I was in thailand 6 months ago I bought these dial packages for 600 baht for one month unlimited. I used it in the hotels I was staying at. It seemed fairly reliable except for www.pokerstars.com .

Do they block gambling sights since gambling is illegal in Thailand?

I will be renting for 6 months there in about a month. Will a more reliable service help? Will ADSL be any different? I will have a direct phone line where ever I lease for 6 months.

    Thanks

  6. I'm in the USA now and just received my mult-entry family visit visa. I was approved because my ex wife and i are still married in thailand. We're both here now and divorced here. When she went to the conlusate in Los Angeles to renew her passport they said that even if were divorced here, were not divorced in thailand so I would qualify.

I was looking for a way to get more then a vacation visa and this was the only way, even though I won't be traveling with her and never planned to. I just want to stay in thailand for about a year without border runs.

My question is this. Will I have to be with family to enter and or will I have to show proof of family visits every 90 days.

    Thanks

  7. Wife must be with you, living with you and supported by you here in Thailand and that status will be checked.  You will not obtain an extension of stay without.  And if you bring your ex here to lie for you there could be very serious problems for her.

If you have the funds to support yourself and wish to stay in Thailand do it without involving yourself and wife in fraud.  It is still rather easy to obtain a multi entry O visa from a small Consulate and make 90 day visa runs until you retire or marry.

Thanks for the advice. I definitaly don't want to do anything illegal in thailand. The funds are no problem but what visa would I apply for before I leave for thailand. I went to the Los Angeles Thai consulate web site and read this forum but its not clear to me. I wuolld like to do what you suggest.

    Thanks

  8. officially, are you married or divorced?

Does she still have all her Thai documentation?

We were divorced in california about three years ago but realisticly only the local courthouse knows about that. We do have all the old marriage certificates, I don't know what house papers are but the form on the website for the Thai consulate in Los angeles only asks for a copy of the marriage ceritficate and her passport or ID card.

I don't know what's required for the extensions though.

  9. I have been reading and I think I know the best way to go for my situtation. Could you tell me if I have it correct.

    Here are the facts:

My goal is to retire early in thailand and come and go freely. I live in USA now.

    I'm 43 years old.

I will have an income of about 80K baht a month from the government.

I have several million baht in my US bank.

I was married in thailand to a thai national about 5 years ago, shes here in the US now and were divorced but still very close.

I thought I would try to get a familiy visit visa from the Los Angeles Thai Consulate for 90 days. My wife will support me with the documentation.

Then get a one year mutli entry when a get to Thailand.

Then get a bank account and put 400K baht in it.

Then apply for a one year extension and continue to apply every year after that.

Does this sound about right or do i need ot do more reading?

    I appreciate any input.

One other thing though. My wife/ex-wife will be living here in the US. Will she need to be in Thailand when I apply for these extensions and/or the one yeare multi entry visa.
