  1. In the US, DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) has ben working on spider silk

body armour for quite some time now. The spiders (Bark Spiders) are abundant & as co-operative

as any large spider can be. Two main problems faced the researchers....spider silk is very thin so

a lotta silk is needed...and the silk needs to be enhanced with more of the spidersilk protein so the

body armour will work as advertised.

The benefits of spidersilk body armour is a huge weight savings....say only a couple pounds instead

of a set that weighs in at nearly 60 pounds and is stiff as plank. Now for the most important part...

the few avilable at present will defeat all rounds from .22 caliber up to 7.62 x 51 AP....at point blank

range. It gives no protection to the wearer against .50 caliber ammunition though.

If this silkworm & epoxy contraption proves it's mettle...good for the lads who invented it & I wish em

all the success they'll deserve. But the technology is not new....it's just a Thai way of achieving the

    desired results.

Link to a Discovery page on spider silk body armour...

BTW...this new body armour is not available to civilians & only available to certain government

entities such as some but not all SOFpersonell, some FBI, some DHS, some Secret Service and

    a few others.

  2. ^^^ That sounds great Mr H. I haven't sourced a hundred disposabe film cameras

but that doesn't seem to be much of problem...or will it be? I thought about cheapo

digital cameras and to let the folks keep em after project completion...then again...

that idea went out the window quickly plus the cameras will cost too damn much.

So film it is...24 or 36 exposures...prefer the 36 exp jobbers.

If not the homeless then who?

  3. Meanwhile, the immigration, police and military officials implicated in the recent Bangkok Bombing, past human trafficking events and the most blatant acts of corruptions, are moved to inactive posts where they continue to collect salaries and benefits. The rulers have time to play the Thaksin bogeyman game, but can't find the time to manage the Bangkok bombing or tanking economy, or the much promised crackdown on corruption.

As much as I believe that Thaksin should have resigned his rank long ago when he entered politics, the manner in which the General / Prime Minister has stripped Thaksin of the rank is questionable. The interim constitution is the direct result of its imposition by an administration that took power by way of a military coup. One does not need to be a constitutional law expert to understand the legal implications. All that this will do is create more distraction. This should have been left to the courts to process. Had it been the product of a transparent judicial process it would have been non-contestable.

    GK...good post.

How much ya wanna bet that P will also envoke Section 44 just a few days or a couple months before

the so called general elections are held in 2017? That is if the elections haven't been deemed not

legal beforehand. Makes me thnk...what about you?

    Hmmmmmmmm....

  4. ^^^Jimmy...That's actually good to read nobody got into trouble. When swells do happen in usually

lake calm waters there's always trouble in the works. In your first pic the guy is not standing in a

good place...easy to get slammed onto the beach & sustain injuries as the part of the breaking

wave which releases the most energy is, from the photo, just a few inches away from the guy

who is offering a broad "target" to the wave by way of his stance. A wave doesn't have to be

very large to put a person on the sand...

  5. ^^^ Astonishingly good or bad?!

I thought about doing something similar out here however after careful

consideration & deep thought outside of the pub, I came to the final

conclusion that many homeless out here would either...1..Take the

camera & sell it. 2...Take the camera & actually take some pictures

then sell it. 3...Take the camera & take the pictures then want money

when & if they turned it in. 4...All the homeless would sell the cameras.

5...95% of the homeless would sell the cameras & the remaining 5 homeless

would take the pictures & want money when they turned in the cameras.

Mind you, a friend of mine & I, when we were working Cambodia for the wires

& TV in the late 80s & 90s bought 3 street kids who washed dishes & cleaned

up at his bistro, cheap PnS cameras & showed the kids how to load & use em

then turned them lose on the streets when they weren't working at the bistro.

One kid had his camera stolen by another kid who was the boss of the street

kids in the area. We got the camera back from that prick & handed him over

to adults for "treatment". One kid dropped & broke his camera & the

last kid, who has now grown into a decent adult is a freelance photog in Phnom

Penh. So...not bad for a $300 USD investment on the PnS cameras at the start.

I can easily see how this project would work in Aussie, Europe, North America,

NZ & even South America...but out here...it may be a different matter altogether.

Perhaps Vietnam would be a good place to test the idea...not sure though,

    just a thought.

Then again...if the idea was presented to the homeless people the right way

maybe, just maybe...it would work very well.

Would anybody like to try? I'm willing on my end. PM me if so.

  6. One hundred Fuji disposable cameras were given to homeless people

    in London.

The objective: Have the homeless people shoot their London then return

the cameras to the organisers. Eighty cameras were returned and the 2016

    calendar will soon be available...

Perhaps something similar can be organised in other cities around the globe?

  7. ^^^ NP...strange thing about snakes I have learned...like us they may not stay in their

generic locations. I've seen mangrove snakes way up mountain sides without

mangroves anywhere near by. Like the Malayan pit viper...nasty buggers & all

over the place...not just resident in Malaysia.

And yes...snake pix in a book can be misleading & I have found out that we

may be looking at juveniles vs mature & vice versa. I went with the BK mainly

due to the head markings (not great but ok in a way) & that curled up tail

which seems to be common in kukri's.

Whatever you do though, these next two are not a kukri or a golden/paradise

green tree snake...and best left alone.

  8. '... Najib... fired ... the attorney general investigating him.' Talk about admitting guilt.

He also fired his deputy PM and a few cabinet ministers for telling him to

explain this 700 million USD plus the 10 Billion USD debt that the 1MDB

thing has incurred. Still no answers regarding either have been stated

by Najib or anybody close to him.

In the OP when Najib stated that the government could easily raise "hundreds

of thousands" of people to support them and that this Bersih 4 group had only

around 20 thousand supporters Najib was in his own world and wrong. Today

Malaysians of all races are no longer afraid of the government's harsh tactics.

A friend in KL covering this gathering placed an estimate at a minimum of

200 thousand people while the organisers of the show gave a somewhat

higher figure of around 300 thousand. Bersih 4 supporters turned up from

all over the country. How the organisers arrived at 300K is a bit vague but

the streets of KL were a sea of yellow & KL is quite large in area.

Interesting Mahathir Mohammad showed up to give support because when

he was PM this Bersih 4 thing would not have happened or if it did all the

yellow shirts would be in jail today.

Things are changing in Malaysia these days, the population is fed up with

the incumbent and the Barisan National, plus UMNO is so divided these

days one would expect they may even disolve their own group and

reinstate it after things change. After all it is kinda hard to keep a population

happy when the man or woman in the street has less money is his/her pocket

today than they did 5 years ago & the ones running the country keep getting

richer and keep telling the populace that things are better now than before.

As one Bersih 4 lad said on the BBC..."We're not stupid" during a vox pop at

the gathering. And...supporters of all 3 races showed up...that's interesting

    also.

What is quite interesting concerning the Bersih ralley is that there was

no agro and that it was allowed to happen after being declared illegal

by the government & the police. I could have been a blood bath or at

the very least very violent...but it was very peaceful instead.

Things are changing in Malaysia...in their own slow manner...and that's

    good IMO.
