  1. Not made for hand held work anyway...needs a helo or fixed wing aircraft with pod(s) to mount into.

Then there's the stuff needed to control the camera. The H5D is fine for hand held work though &

is pretty much the same camera...But that spare change thing crops up all the time...can you imagine

how many bevvies, long lunches & other pleasantries you can have instead?!

  2. I'd like to take the opportunity to thank Maj. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd for helping the missus & I solve a slightly difficult dilemma concerning when to go on holiday. October it is then! However another dilemma is manifesting itself with the Chinese invasion date now a known happening.....and that dilemma is...when will they retreat? November? December? January?

Two weeks after arrival? Please post more info on this matter Maj. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd or Khaosod..it would be much appreciated.

    Sincere Regards

  3. Black scorpions are venomous...however their venom is not harmful to humans in the same

way that a bee sting is not harmful to humans unless you have an alergy to the bee sting.

When picking up a black scorpion grasp the "stinger" between the thumb & forefinger,

squeeze a bit but not too much to rupture it and pick the beasty up. Mind you their claws

will take nice chunks of your skin away from wherever your skin is attached if you piss off

said scorpon. How can you tell if you've pissed off the scorpuon? You can't.

If stung by the black scorpion it will hurt like all get out not only from envemomation but

also from the physical size of the stinger itself...it's thick & long. Treat as you would a bee

or wasp sting or immerse the part stung in the hottest water you can stand for at least

5 minutes. If you start tio have breathing difficulties or an irregular heartbeat get to

a hospital asap & have someone go with you to describe what stung you/bring the

splattered scorpion along in a bag so the hospital has a positive ID.

There are scorpions here that may be lethal...the yellowish/brownish amber looking

ones and the grey with orange spots type. Seriously...grey with orange spots & perhaps

reddish orange spots. These two types will ruin your day & possibly your life...don't ever

try to handle these unless you are 100% sure you know what you're doing. Even then

it's best to simply shoo em away.

Use a slender stick or broom to shoo em away...and be forwarned...they can move pretty

    quick if they want to.

  4. I saw one of these the other evening when riding through the jungle just on dusk. But it had a red fur similar to a fox. Civet?

I have been studying civets & binturongs in SEA for years off & on and I have never seen

a red (rust coloured) civet but that doesn't mean they don't exist or have been discovered.

Perhaps what you saw was a mongoose, also common out here and yes...they can be "red".

  5. The only item that Asus should improve upon IMO is the battery life since the internal, non swappable battery

that comes in every Zenfone sucks & you have to join the "Brick Brigade" and purchase/carry around an

extra battery pack if you're a heavy user.

Other than that...the Zenfone is about as good as any others and a fair bit cheaper too.

  6. Seastallion...

Otters have a more blunt shaped nose/snout viewed from the front...sideways they may look "pointy" but that's not the case.

What you say about the gait reminds me of both the otter, weasel, binturong & especially the civet. Perhaps it was

the common Asian Palm Civet, which do not necessarily live in palm trees and have no aversion to living in & around

humans...an easy source of food scraps.

Down in my patch, Ranong, we have a good many of them and a few even enter the house at night looking for treats.

They're kinda like an Asian version of a racoon and civets can also be easily tamed & make good pets.

Then there's the story of Coffee Luwak...coffee made from the coffee beans which the civet eats and passes out

as civet poop. Aparently it's rather tastey & very expensive.

Here's a couple Asian Palm Civet pix for your reference....

  7. Frank Gifford was one of my childhood heros in the 50's. When he presented Wide World of Sports

Gifford brought, to me anyway, professionalism to sportsTV and he did the same hosting Monday

    Night Football. I'll miss him, although I was under the impression he already died some years ago;

    my mistake.

    RIP Frank...you've earned it.

  8. The first thing the Gov of Kampooch must do if they want to promote tourism

in Anlong Veng is to somehow come up with a prophylactic against a certain

strain of Malaria found only in this region which is resistant to all known

antimalarials...even the artemesinin based AM's. The only known pseudo

preventative is Doxycycline (aka Vibramycin) & it's not a good idea to be

taking antiB's for any long duration unless fighting a bacterial infection.

Plus the Vibramycin regimen is not 100% effective on the strain in A. Veng.

Secondly the government is gonna have to demine the entire region because

tourista's have a tendency to wander off on their own to have a look.

Speaking of having a look...in Anlong Veng there is nothing to look at save

for a bridge that "THe Butcher" had built. The butcher is Ta mok. Then there's

always the jungle I guess but in there be land mnes. Oh..there's Ta mok's house

...more like a large shed IMO but some touristas may enjoy looking at large

    sheds.

Been there, got malaria, saw the Butcher, filmed him & left without incident

...way back in 1994. I'd rather sit on the balcony of my apartment in Phnom

    Penh with a G & T watching the Mekong, Sap & Bassac rivers flow....with a fat

blunt in one hand & straight pizza in the other.

Good luck to Kampooch though for trying to make a buck from the nasty days

of old..they really do need the money. I wish them well...seriously.

Thank you, most informative; I do hope members take note and pass the message. How do I share your message on Facebook?

Sorry if this comes as a disappointment but you don't share anything I put here on FB. Seriously.
