Yea I talked to Weegee after he got home from Immigration .What he said and what ubonjoe said is Correct. the insurance requirement is for the O-A visa that's obtained in ones home country and is valid only for one year. if one want's an Extension based on retirement after that one doesn't need Insurance But one needs the 2 month THB 800k in the bank before applying for the extension and than the 3 months after application one must still have the THB 800K, after that one must have THB400K that then must be Topped up to THB 800K 2 months before applying for the next Extension
According to the order, health insurance is not required for those applying for an extension of stay based on retirement and only applies to Non O-A visas. Non O-A visas are obtained from an embassy or consulate outside of Thailand. Thank you all Kindly ????
Exactly....and thanks. The Immigration Depts are all falling into Sync at last....I believe everything I was told yesterday by Immigration was correct. They were so helpful and friendly about the great list of questions i had with me...I came away Happy.

AFAIK, there was never any question or serious indication that the latest insurance requirement was in any way going to apply to marriage extensions of stay or even to O visas based on marriage.
The still looming question, though, among others, is will the insurance requirement apply to people who already have O-A visas issued BEFORE Oct. 31 who then make entry to Thailand on that visa AFTER Oct. 31. On that issue, among others, there is considerable speculation.
From what i understand...Insurance doesnt apply once you have been here, and then go for your extension.
Read what i put at the top again....I wrote it as soon as i walked in the door. That covers your question.

Here's a question I bet you didn't ask them.
What about those O-A visa people effected if/when they first go for annual extension in Thailand? Insurance required or not?
And the Answer to that question was...NO! not required...Non OA only....and they are only obtained OUT of Thailand...Anything applied for INSIDE Thailand is exempt.

As of 11am today, from Hatyai Immigration, who in my books are the greatest ,most helpful bunch of People i have ever delt with...
UBON JOE is absolutely correct with everything he has stated...For God sake listen to him.
TAKE NOTE :-
Done the marriage extension today at 11am and this is what they told me.
Anyone who is already here on Marriage extension DOES not have to worry about this Insurance Cover....even on renewal. NOT required
The only ones required to do so are the people who are applying at an Embassy...OUTSIDE of Thailand.
It is only applicable to NON-OA....NO one else.
With regard to the number of days money is required to be in the Bank before for Marriage extension...it is definitely 60 days...PERIOD!!!
Today I asked all the questions i could think of to be able to relay to the forum here.
So there you go..
Hope this helps you all out a bit more...

I don't think that they look at it hour by hour, minute by minute. I think it's based upon the balance at the end of each day.
Not correct....I made the same mistake as the OP. had to wait until money was matured again...

Nothing wrong with Immigration in Hatyai...always helpful and polite. They have rules to obey, and if you do your preparation right before you attend...there never seems to be a problem .

Usually retirement extensions do not get visits. I think it is the procedure only for marriage extensions. Well I am pretty sure no-one I know in retirement has ever been visited. It is usually to confirm that the marriage, relationship and address are all kosher.
Yep...1 visited us at home yesterday...all good. Same things, Look at Passport and related papers, a couple of photos, a few questions, a cup of Coffee, and away he went.... Arrived unannounced, which didnt worry us, we are above board.

Boundary disputes happen worldwide, not just a Thai issue.
My Mother's neighbour harassed her for years and the issue was not resolved until she passed away.
After I moved in we had a meeting, agreed the boundary at the rear which was to my benefit and at the front I gave way on a new fenceline to their benefit, about 12".
Mum spent thousands on surveyors, solicitors, not to mention the stress to her. We pleaded with her to compromise to no avail, mind the neighbour was a tosser and they'd never got on.
What is the disputed area?
In and out about a mtr for 100mtrs....It's not my land, it's the wifes. Apparantly this feud has been going on for the last 20yrs or so....i came on the scene about 8yrs ago....believed what i was told, and it went from there....
My amazing surprise was how accurate a Thai fence Builder was over a hundred mtrs...lol....within 1 mm at every point checked....

I have a fence thats the subject of a dispute, so out come the Surveyor with his Theodolite and Plastic measuring tape to put it right...
He uses the theodolite on the land where the dispute arose from, but wouldn't use it from our Chanote marks or recently placed chanote marks on other properties adjoining, which we requested....he would only refer to his computer, and the other party's land pegs in the dispute.
Now, myself and another measured all the area more than once and it matched the Chanote papers fairly closely...a couple of days before.
But when it was done by him....I couldnt believe how exact Thai Builders are with building a fence....would you believe, his measurements (which are different to our chanote) proved the the fence over a large distance was exact....not even 5 mm wrong. I wish i could find that builder again....he is more competent than any other builder, anywhere in the world....and he can build them for my wife, all the buildings and stuff that have to be moved, back onto the wifes land....then a new fence, as i know it will be done exactly within 1mm.
Imagine ...
For those that have left...Smart move
For those about to pack and go....Smart Move
For those that stay....Good Luck !!!!

About 4 hrs ago i was travelling on a 2 lane each way divided Hwy and there was heaps of traffic in both lanes...well as it was a highway we were all travelling about 100klms per hour, when i heard a noise like a large truck approaching...It wasnt, it was a guy on a motorbike coming through between myself and a car beside me in the other lane ...he came through that fast, it felt like we were standing still. he would have had to be doing 160klms at least, going on how quick it all happened...he was gone like a flash ahead of us, ducking between cars...gee it was good to get home and close the gate....

I dont think you can...Try contacting the Customs dept, at the point of entry, BEFORE you try to do...My missus accidently had a petal from a flower in her coat pocket, when we arrived in Brisbane...Wow! was that an experience for sure...We looked like getting a $3000 fine, but worked it out thankfully...
They are VERY strict about this, so be warned...contact them first.
