  1. 300 items of underwear collected over a 10 year period kept in his house and his wife did not notice, she obviously does not spend much time cleaning does she?

Finally under interrogation he additmitted he liked to sniff then, would like to know if the penalty for stealing and sniffing is greater than just stealing. Purely out of interest of course, no personal motive here.

This happened in Issan. No such thing as house cleaning up there. Everyone's property looks like a litter dump. They use something and then just throw the empty packets on the floor.
There's nothing like a sweeping generalisation is there?
  2. Strange. In the US clean, crisp bills would be suspected of being counterfeit and would be subjected to the most scrutiny. Right off the printing press I guess.

Not so srtange,I remember not ten years ago coming to Thailand and if the notes were marked by pen or torn in any way I could not exchange them, so when coming to Thailand the UK notes I brought were unmarked in any way....I brought new ones.....Otherwise they were rejected..,. TRUE.....

Still the same in the banks around Kalasin....... Scrutinise every detail, and any little flaw sees it handed back...... I went through the lot and changed all the marked/torn notes in a currency exchange in Bangkok before I came up.
  3. Am sure the motor-bike did something to wind-up the car driver.

Car driver intended only a minor injury on the motor-bike riders.

Maybe the motor-bike rider should do more with the 30,000 Baht reward, i.e. buy a safety helmet.

So in your opinion it's OK to intentionally drive into someone knocking them off their bike......... Provided they did something to wind up the car driver....... I'm really glad I don't know you........!!!
  4. Now you know when the hotel emails you to transfer 300.000 baht don't do it.

What idiot would even consider send that money, FOR WHAT?

I think if you read the article properly you will see it was a number of foreigners sending a total of 300,000 baht, not one person.
It says four people, so that's still an average of 75,000Bt. That's an awful lot of money going to a 3 star hotel.
  5. From what I hear and can understand from the Air Asia signs around town (Kalasin) they are offering a Van Service to the Airport in Khon Kaen if you purchase your tickets here in Kalasin... Pretty much just saves you having to drive the 1 hour to Khon Kaen... The Van's leave from the Bus Station which is located just behind the Nam Kin Park...

    Pianoman

It'll be a cold day in hell before I get in one of those vans again......... A real white knuckle ride, and I'm sure they run a book on the fastest trip of the day........
  6. Following the announcement last week that from 29 August one could get a 30 day visa/visa exempt on arrival and then extend for a further 30 days I went to Hua Hin immigration yesterday to check this out as my family are visiting for 7 weeks (they will have confirmed flights out etc at the end) in November/December. The immigration officer there said he had now knowledge of this and that my family would need to get a 60 day visa from local embassy or consulate in country of origin ie uk

I wonder how long it takes for information to flow through ???? to be safe I have advised them to get all the documentation in order in home country not here ... just in case our local immigration officer is not quite up to date when they visit

Without a visa your family wouldn't be able to board the plane in England.........airlines are not allowed to let you fly with no visa if your return flight takes you past the 30 days in Thailand.
  7. Glad I read the whole thread.........2 flights a day to bkk is enough for me....... Thanks for clarification BENQ.......... I'm sure totster opened this thread to p*ss me off, knowing full well I'm about to return.......

  8. It always bugs me when they do this....... I ask for new notes when I withdraw from my UK bank nowadays, it just saves that little bit of grief in the bank........

    Why not travelers checks??

It's only backup money(not large amounts) in my case BlueSky, I transfer most of my money into my kBank account........ Although I always get round to using it at some stage.

  9. Mate, you just made me feel homesick...... Scott's Bar is the place to go...... plenty of people in there to give you ideas of what to do in the area. As for where to stay, I recommend the Khruea Pan on the far side of the lake along the back road to the Rimpao Hotel...... clean and cheap enough at 400Bt.

  10. my wife is x bar girl and im not ashamed to admit it! all the people you meet who say my wife worked in a bank or tesco and so on,  ok yea you take a big chance when you marry an x bar girl. and the odds are stacked, but the rewards are worth it, my wife is smart ,funny, and lovely and loyal, she did what she had to do for her and her family! there is no s/s in issan! you may think they are hard nosed women some are, but most are decent human beings that are just trying to live, how many of us could go to a strange place at a very young age and put up with all the stuff they have had to? i have the greatest respect for them, and lets not forget we created this market not them!!!! so please lets take a step back and have a bit more compashionPosted Image

Respect must be in the eye of the beholder.

I'd rather respect a young Thai-Lady, that makes an effort to support the family "on location" somewhere in the Isaan by working the farm and/or working as a seamstress or store clerk and possibly going to night-school.

If she wants to make an acquaintance with a Farang = every village has an Internet-Cafe in the meantime. That's the kind of Thai-Lady I respect.

What's with all those middle-aged female bar-empolyees, that started a career some 20 years ago in the "entertainment-business" and haven't managed to hit the "jackpot" by landing a Farang?  = The majority ! They present themselves today as overweight, grumpy and disgruntled persons, knowing that they missed the "jackpot".

    A rude awakening.

Relationships of Farangs and bar-ladies can last for many years, as is often-times mentioned here, as long as liberal amounts of money can be withdrawn from the nearest ATM.

Otherwise the Farang may be in for a rude awakening.

Nevermind, I don't want to spoil anyone's party.

    Cheers.

I have to correct you Swissie....... not every village has an internet café...... never been round Kalasin area I take it?
